Writer/Director Nathan Silver On The Fate and Form of Thirst Street

  • Cinelinx
Thirst Street, a sordid trauma study with a twist on fairy tale idealizations, denotes a significant departure from Silver’s unbound form to something more staged and mannered. As the fate of Silver’s characters come to question, and the fabled nature of fate itself does too, we endure a Silver tragedy at its most pre-designed.

From his usual outlines to a 25 page treatment, Thirst Street still maintains some of Silver's unscripted sensibilities. Dialogue was improvised. Shots were intuited on the day, guided by the atmosphere of a setting and the emotional necessities of a scene. Still it maintains a form, with a stylized beginning & end, and a more fluid, naturalistic, midsection.

Nathan details the use of these new formal elements, the ways which they apply thematically to Thirst Street, and their current and hoped for evolutions in his future work.

Thirst Street follows Gina (Lindsay Burge) an American flight attendant who,

AMC Offers Reserve Seating at All Manhattan Theaters

AMC Offers Reserve Seating at All Manhattan Theaters
For New Yorkers, going to the movies often means camping out for an hour before the show starts. Stragglers know that arriving late can be the difference between seeing the movie unfold in comfort and watching the action from the front row, with their necks craned uncomfortably heavenward.

“Growing up the rule I had with my friends was if you were going to go to the theaters, you had to get there an hour early or there’d be a huge line,” said Erik Davis, managing editor of Fandango and a New York-based entertainment reporter. “Even if you got a ticket in advance, you’d have to get there a half hour in advance or you’d have the worst seat in the theater.”

That could change. Beginning Friday, AMC Theatres is offering reserve seating at all of its Manhattan locations.

The chain had allowed customers to call dibs on

Clown Trailer from Producer Eli Roth

Clown Trailer from Producer Eli Roth
"Daddy, I hope you stay a clown forever!" What started as a fun fake trailer has turned into one of the most anticipated horror releases of the year with Clown. Director Jonathan Watts captured the attention and imagination of producer and horror maestro Eli Roth, who decided to take this monstrosity on as a pet project back in 2012. Now we have the first trailer, which quickly goes off the rails, earning its place as one of the few must-see thrillers of 2014. Watch as a man shows up for a birthday celebration dressed as a party clown, and slowly transforms into something quite hideous. Dimension Films will release Clown later this year, though no firm release date has been announced yet.

Clown comes to theaters in 2014 and stars Peter Stormare, Laura Allen, Elizabeth Whitmere, Christian Distefano, Chuck Shamata, John MacDonald, Andy Powers, Sarah Scheffer. The film is directed by Jonathan Watts.

Beginning today, AMC Theatres is giving federal workers free popcorn. The theater chain announced that federal employees will receive a free small popcorn at AMC concession stands simply by showing a valid government or military ID. "The offer is good until common sense is restored in Washington D.C., or, more likely, untili the shutdown ends or we run out of free popcorn," AMC Theatres said in a statement. Government Shut You Down? Go Get Some Free Popcorn

Thanks to some mega-hissy-fitting partisan disagreements on Capitol Hill, the U.S. government is partially shut down right now, meaning there are oodles of federal workers — the kind who don't get to sit around and bicker aimlessly for a living, heyyyyyyyy Congress — who've been put on forced leave, in many instances without pay.

Yeah, yeah, you've probably heard all about that by now, but here's a new development to the story: free popcorn!

The love of free stuff is as 'Merican as apple pie, and since the movie biz has probably become one of the red, white and blue's chief exports anymore, it seems mighty fitting that one of the nation's biggest movie-slingers is lookin' out for those poor, displaced feds.

AMC Theaters has announced that until this whole government-no-longer-functioning thing has blown over, federal worker bees barred from the hive can head over to their establishments and feast away

AMC Offers 'Shutdown Special': Free Popcorn for Federal Employees

Hey, it's not health care or even a panda cam, but we'll take good news about the government shutdown where we can get it. The fine folks at AMC are offering federal employees a free small popcorn... and a free movie ticket.

According to AMC, "The offer is good until common sense is restored in Washington, D.C., or, more likely, until the shutdown ends or we run out of free popcorn. Consistent with past free popcorn giveaways on Tax Day Weekend, the purchase of a ticket is not necessary to receive the offer."

John McDonald, AMC's exec VP of operations, said, "There are hundreds of thousands of federal workers whose lives are being impacted... While we can't do anything to resolve gridlock in Washington, D.C., we can provide a few hours of entertainment and free popcorn while they wait to get back to work."

The nation’s second-largest exhibition chain on Tuesday said it was offering free small popcorn to U.S. government employees, even if they were not among the 800,000 put out of work by the shutdown over the funding President Obama’s Affordable Care Act health plan.
