A recent trend that has been appearing in many popular movies and TV shows is the idea of alternate universes; that is, different realities which contrast heavily with the established world thanks to at least one key change occurring somewhere in the past. Movies like Everything Everywhere All at Once and Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have dedicated themselves to diving deep into the idea, exploring numerous alternate realities that could have existed just as easily as the ones the characters live in.
However, while many major motion pictures have been entirely focused on this idea, there are also numerous TV shows that have diverged from their main narrative in order to consider alternate realities as well. After all, it can be very enjoyable for the creators and actors of the show to consider how different the lives of their characters could have been. While they all approach the subject in different ways,...

On its surface, The Radleys is another of the many vampire movies that have created their own horror subgenre. Fans can come up with a half-dozen great vampire films. But past the fact that the main characters drink blood, there are a lot of different elements to this project, from family drama to clear comedy and even a little romance. How does an actor approach a movie that doesn't want to fit in its own box?
To find out, Cbr spoke to stars Bo Bragason (who plays Clara Radley) and Harry Baxendale (who portrays Rowan Radley) about their experience making The Radleys. The actors explained what excited them about the movie in the first place, and some of the ways that other genres are at play under the vampire story. Plus, why was the film important to them personally?

Vampires may be the stars of The Radleys, but the movie's biggest surprises come at home. The adaptation of Matt Haig's novel aims to blend horror scares with family drama -- and the man responsible for balancing those two ideas is director Euros Lyn. A genre veteran, Lyn is known for helming episodes of Doctor Who and its spinoff Torchwood, as well as the Black Mirror installment "Fifteen Million Merits." That makes him the perfect person to play with genre expectations.
With The Radleys now streaming, Cbr spoke to Lyn about the making of this quirky film. He discussed why he feels it stands out amongst so many other vampire movies and what appeals to him about working in the horror and science fiction space. Plus, learn how he re-teamed with actor Damian Lewis to get not one, but two great performances out of one of Britain's best actors.

The Radleys is Damian Lewis as audiences have never seen him before. The award-winning actor is known for intense, often intimidating roles like the ill-fated Nicholas Brody in Showtime's frenetic drama Homeland, or ruthless businessman Bobby Axelrod in Billions. But the horror flick sees him playing an over the top vampire... and the vampire's twin brother.
Cbr spoke to Lewis about what attracted him to the British horror comedy, based on Matt Haig's novel of the same name. He discussed the challenges of playing both Will Radley and Will's straight-laced brother Peter, who just wants to raise his family in peace (and of course gets a lot more than he bargained for). Plus, hear why Lewis considers The Radleys much more than a vampire movie.

Kelly Macdonald is a mother whose unhappy marriage has a darker secret behind it in The Radleys. The Scottish actor quickly made a name for herself with her first role in Danny Boyle's Trainspotting and has since found acclaim for her work on both the big and small screen, including the satirical mystery Gosford Park, her Emmy-winning role in The Girl in the Caf and both Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated turns in Boardwalk Empire. Macdonald is also known for voicing Merida in Pixar's Brave, having also reprised the role in Ralph Breaks the Internet.
Macdonald stars in the movie adaptation of Matt Haig's The Radleys as Helen, the matriarch of the titular family and secretly a vampire alongside her husband, Peter. “The Radleys,” directed by Euros Lyn and starring Damian Lewis and Kelly MacDonald, is a distinctive comedy that offers a fresh take on the vampire genre. This British production by Sky arrives without much fanfare or controversy, yet it presents an intriguing central concept: a seemingly typical suburban bourgeois family that, beneath the surface, is actually a family of vampires. This premise naturally leads to fascinating psychological challenges for the two adolescent members of the family who, deep down, feel different from everyone else—because they are.
“The Radleys” stands out as a lighthearted comedy that avoids extravagant situations and doesn’t aim to push viewers out of their comfort zones. In fact, its charm lies in doing the opposite: starting from an extravagant and fantastical scenario (vampires) and bringing it into the comfortable, familiar world of British middle-class life.

Have you ever heard about the Radleys, a family of vampires living under the radar in the human world, trying to keep their blood-sucking urges on hold? But, like all cravings, things get tricky, and it’s only a matter of time before their hunger pushes them to the edge. Unlike the classic vampire stories of Dracula, these vampires don’t just roam the night hunting for blood. They’ve learned to fit in. In “The Radleys,” directed by Euros Lyn and penned by Talitha Stevenson, Jo Brand, and Matt Haig, we learn how this family tries to control their urge.
The film’s packed with talent, too, featuring Kelly Macdonald, Damian Lewis, Sophia Di Martino, Steven Waddington, Bo Bragason, Jay Lycurgo, Shaun Parkes, and Madeleine Power. “The Radleys” is a refreshing take on the vampire genre—less old-school gore, more modern-day struggles.

Hidden in plain sight, a seemingly ordinary family conceals a thirst for blood. So goes the intriguing premise of The Radleys, a horror comedy based on Matt Haig’s 2010 novel of the same name. Director Euros Lyn adapts the story of a suburban British clan coping with their vampiric nature, spinning gold from the familiar notions of repression, temptation, and inter-generational change.
Peter, Helen, and their children, Rowan and Clara Radley, live as normal neighbors on the surface. But unseen to outsiders, they restrain primal cravings for sustenance and revelry. When Clara’s attack by a classmate forces her first feed and the truth open, chaos blooms. Peter calls his rebellious twin Will for aid, only compounding instability.
As humor and thrills ensue, deeper themes emerge of coming-of-age, addiction, and sexual self-discovery. Clara and Rowan adjust to awakened instincts, battling curiosity and fear. Helen and Peter withstand crumbling routines. The...

The Radleys is a vampire movie like no other. Set in a rural English seaside town, it picks up with a family of vampires attempting to give up drinking blood. However, things soon escalate when the kids discover their true nature (a situation made worse when their twisted uncle shows up to cause chaos).
Homeland and Billions star Damian Lewis takes on dual roles as that uncle, Will, and the family's mild-mannered patriarch, Peter. The twin brothers are polar opposites and we soon learn that they have vastly different approaches to being a vampire.
We sat down with Lewis earlier this week and asked what drew him to The Radleys, a project which reunites him with filmmaker Euros Lyn after they previously collaborated on Dream Horse.
"This is a family that's moved itself out to the suburbs and essentially put themselves in the program, desperately trying to kick their alcoholism or drug addiction.

Netflix’s season three trailer for Heartstopper begins by acknowledging that 16 is when things stop making sense. (And it doesn’t get any easier moving forward.) The trailer for the coming-of-age drama captures teen angst, and shows Charlie and Nick’s relationship is still incredibly complicated.
“Season 2 ended with Nick beginning to understand the extent of Charlie’s mental health issues, and it’s this that will drive the story through Season 3,” said series creator and writer Alice Oseman. “While Heartstopper will always celebrate the joyful and point towards hope, I’m really excited that we are allowing the tone of the show to mature alongside our beloved characters growing up. Mental health, sex, university ambitions, and more: Nick, Charlie, and the Heartstopper teens are getting older, learning more about themselves and each other, and experiencing new desires, new fears, and new joys as they approach adulthood.”

We saw the trailer for Salem's Lot earlier today, and we now have a first look at a slightly less intense vampire movie.
Lionsgate has released the first trailer for what's described as a new "comedy thriller" (we'd say horror is more apt) called The Radleys, which was directed by Euros Lyn and written by Talitha Stevenson.
Damian Lewis and Kelly Macdonald star as a married couple with two kids who are hiding a dark secret: they're all undead monsters who must consume blood to survive.

The BAFTA TV Craft Awards took place on Sunday, April 28, with British TV host and documentarian Stacey Dooley hosting the event at East London’s The Brewery. The ceremony was the first half of the two BAFTA nights honoring the year’s best TV, with the Craft Awards dedicated to below-the-line categories just like the Creative Arts Emmys.
We attended Sunday’s ceremony and managed to speak to a number of nominated artists, including Adiescar Chase, who serves as the composer for Netflix’s hit feel-good LGBTQ+ series “Heartstopper.” Chase explained to us how she created the iconic sound of “Heartstopper,” noting that her conversation with director Euros Lyn exemplified how she works on the show.
“The great thing about ‘Heartstopper’ is that, in season two, Euros asked that I make the music feel new, feel like it’s developing as we are with the characters. So, a lot of...

A minion nears his powerful master with good news. Spider-Man has gone, leaving the city unprotected. “This means the time has come to proceed with my master plan!” he responds, before explaining his plot to consolidate power.
These types of pronouncements aren’t uncommon among supervillains, many of whom have menaced the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Everyone from Kaecilius in Doctor Strange to Thanos across the Infinity Saga has launched a major battle to destroy their enemies and conquer the world.
But the guy we’re talking about here has no such lofty intentions. As 1967’s Amazing Spider-Man #50 demonstrates, Wilson Fisk endeavors to be no more than the Kingpin of Crime, the mastermind behind all of the illegal activities in New York City. And those limited ambitions make Fisk’s return to the MCU so monumental. Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk in Echo,...

The following contains spoilers for the Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials, now streaming on Disney+ and BBC iPlayer.
The Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials took fans on a trip down memory lane as David Tennant returned as the Doctor, alongside Catherine Tate as companion Donna Noble. The duo first appeared alongside each other in the 2006 Christmas special, "The Runaway Bride," before Donna became a full-time companion throughout Season 4 of Doctor Who in 2008. Tennant's return came as a stark departure from previous stories in which past Doctors have come back, though. Rather than appearing as the Tenth Doctor again, Tennant came back as the Fourteenth Doctor, a brand new incarnation with his old face inexplicably returning.
While the Fourteenth Doctor was different from the Tenth Doctor, there were plenty of nods to Tennant's previous tenure on Doctor Who. This new incarnation kept many of the Tenth Doctor's mannerisms and personality traits,...

The official trailer for “Heartstopper” Season 2 is out, and we’re already getting butterflies.
The second season of the YA romance series, which launches its eight-episode season Aug. 3 on Netflix, picks up as the whirlwind romance between Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) continues to blossom. “I want to tell people,” Nick tells Charlie in the trailer. “It’s hard to find the right time.”
“I want you to come out when and how you want to,” Charlie assures him.
