    While an Army officer during World War II, Allen Ludden was assigned to the entertainment division for the Pacific. There, he worked with Shakespearean actor Maurice Evans, who was an Army major at the time, to produce and direct more than 40 shows. At war's end, Ludden became personal manager and advance man for Evans during a nationwide tour of "Hamlet."
