Alwin Nikolais was the producer, choreographer, costume person, sound score, and lighting director.

During WWII, he worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence in San Francisco. After the war, he stayed in San Francisco and studied dance. He eventually danced in productions of choreographer Alwin Nikolais in New York. He found time to study speech and theater at New York University. He moved into choreography, and in 1953 he established his own dance company.
