ABC’s Soccer Pilot ‘Dream Team’ Casts Three Series Regulars
ABC’s comedy soccer pilot “Dream Team” has cast three series regulars, Variety has learned.

Michael Mosley, who previously starred in USA Network’s “Sirens,” will play Rick Johnson. Although he doesn’t consider girls’ soccer a “real sport,” Rick — who is often clueless as to why things he says rub people the wrong way — is completely on board with getting his daughter, Tiffnee, onto a top-notch soccer team.

Lindsey Kraft (“Getting On”) has been cast as Michaela. Artsy, with a gentle soul, Michaela is married to Leslie (a competitive Ob-gyn with a passion for sports) and is horrified by the idea of being a soccer mom, knowing full well most of the heavy lifting will fall to her; you’ll find her on the soccer field with a bottle of merlot and the latest e-book, wishing Miley was instead enrolled in ballet.

Kyra Sedgwick, HBO Developing Comedy About a Former Nun
Putting a spin on the “newly divorced woman” storyline, HBO has inked a script development deal with exec producers Kyra Sedgwick and Kari Lizer for a comedy about a former nun trying to find herself after walking out on her church and, well, her marriage.

Lizer, who created “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and is therefore no stranger to the subject of women starting over, will write the script. Sedgwick is tapped to star in the still-untitled half-hour, single-camera laffer from Lizer’s Kari’s Logo Here in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Sedgwick is repped by CAA, Impression Entertainment and Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams. Lizer, who also has a put pilot commitment at NBC for her comedy “Wing Mom,” is repped by Vision Art Management.

Mary McCormack To Star In NBC Comedy Pilot ‘Welcome To The Family’

Mary McCormack is set to star opposite Mike O’Malley in Welcome To The Family, NBC‘s single-camera comedy from Mike Sikowitz and Sony TV. It chronicles how cultures collide when a white family and a Latino family are bonded together by their children who fall in love followed quickly by an unplanned pregnancy. O’Malley and McCormack play the pregnant girl’s parents Dan and Katrina, a loving mother who is the glue between her more volatile daughter and husband. Several pilots were interested in former In Plain Sight star McCormack, who opted to do a comedy for a second straight year. Last season, she toplined Kari Lizer’s ABC pilot. McCormack’s other series credits include The West Wing, Murder One and K Street. She is with Gersh and Untitled.

Rtl To Air German Version Of ‘The New Adventures Of Old Christine’

Warner Bros International Television Production is moving into the scripted-format export business, commissioning a local version of sitcom The New Adventures Of Old Christine to Rtl in Germany. Rtl has ordered eight episodes for a 2013 premiere, with Polyphon producing. Sony TV has been the most active in setting up local versions of sitcoms from its libraries, including remakes of The Nanny, Married…With Children, Who’s The Boss? and Everybody Loves Raymond. Some of them have been hugely successful, like the Russian version of Nanny, and some have misfired, like the recent Bulgarian remake of Married, as adapting American comedies to local cultures is always a tricky proposition. Created by Kari Lizer, Old Christine aired on CBS for five seasons and earned star Julia Louis-Dreyfus an Emmy for playing divorced working mom Christine Campbell as she juggles the daily stresses and conflicts of motherhood and her business.

CBS Buys Kari Lizer Comedy As Put Pilot

Kari Lizer is back at CBS. Two years after the cancellation of her CBS comedy The New Adventures Of Old Christine, the network has given a put pilot commitment to a new multi-camera comedy project from the writer-producer. It marks a departure for Lizer as it is her first show that doesn’t have a female lead. The untitled sitcom centers on a guy who finally meets the woman of his dreams but she happens to be his cousin’s fiancée. Warner Bros. TV, where Lizer is based, is producing with her Kari’s Logo Here banner. For the two development cycles after the May 2010 cancellation of Old Christine, which came down to the wire and didn’t allow Lizer to give the five-year comedy a proper ending, she opted to take her projects elsewhere. She pitched CBS, which had been courting her for while, earlier this week. In a great meeting,

NBC Picks Up Comedy Pilot ‘Next Caller’ To Series

NBC has given one last-minute comedy series order to the Dane Cook starrer Next Caller, which I hear is being picked up for six episodes. The project, from writer Stephen Falk, Lionsgate and Universal TV, is a single-camera gender comedy focusing on a brash alpha male DJ (Cook) and his new, plucky, feminist co-host (Collette Wolfe) set in the offices of a satellite radio station. There had been talk that NBC liked the premise but was considering redeveloping it. That is still a possibility given that fact that the order is for 6 episodes, likely for midseason. As Next Caller got a nod, I hear the last remaining NBC comedy pilots have now gotten a pass. That includes the multi-camera Kari Lizer project starring Minnie Driver and Andrea Anders and Daddy’s Girls starring Scott Bakula, which may be shopped elsewhere. With the Next Caller pickup, NBC’s tally is seven

It’s Official: ‘Cougar Town’ Is Moving To TBS

We broke the news on Saturday that TBS was in talks to pick up ABC’s comedy series Cougar Town. As we projected on Sunday, the negotiations reached a successful conclusion, and the cable network just announced the pickup. There are no details on the order but I had heard that TBS and Cougar Town producer ABC Studios were targeting a 15-episode one. TBS today announced a fourth-season pickup for Cougar Town to premiere in early 2013, though I hear the studio has the cast locked in for another season after that, so a fifth season could be in the cards too, bringing the series to comfortable syndicatable levels. In addition to ordering new episodes, TBS has acquired the rights to Cougar Town‘s first three seasons of 61 episodes that originally aired on ABC. While never a hit, the series starring Courteney Cox has enjoyed a devoted following by a core group of passionate fans.
