Known for co-directing “The Big Heat” (1988) with Johnnie To, unsung Hong Kong filmmaker Andrew Kam Yeung Wa also worked as the 2nd Unit director for “Peking Opera Blues” (1986) and “A Better Tomorrow III” (1989). But with “Fatal Termination”, a simple revenge-driven action thriller, he manages to bring it to an intensely merciless level during the film’s last half hour climax.

The classic wuxia novels written by the late Louis Cha, better known by his pen name Jin Yong, are a popular source of inspiration when it comes to films, TV series and even comics adaptations. Therefore it is not a surprise that this version, produced by iQIYI, China's most-watched video streaming giant network is yet another adaptation from Yong's “Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain” which was first serialized in the local papers back in 1959.

Exclusive: Signature Entertainment has snapped up rights for the UK and Ireland to Hong Kong-China action picture Sakra, directed by and starring Donnie Yen, from Well Go USA.
The Hong Kong-China co-production, which is based on the classic wuxia novel Demi-Gods And Semi-Devils by world-renowned novelist Louis Cha (also known by his pen name Jin Yong), marks the first time Yen has directed a film in nearly two decades. Yen recently starred in John Wick: Chapter 4 and is also known for his roles in Hong Kong’s Ip Man franchise.
Sakra is produced by China’s Wishart Media and Hong Kong’s Mandarin Motion Pictures, Shaw Brothers and Jing’s Production. Yen also produced with Zhe Liu and co-directed with Ka-Wai Kam (Big Brother).
In addition to Yen, the cast includes Chen Yuqi (Heavenly Sword And Dragon Slaying Sabre), Cya Liu (Limbo) and Eddie Cheung (Throw Down), with Kara Wai guest starring and special guest appearances by Ray Lui (Raging Fire) and Tsui Siu Ming (Kung Fu Jungle).
The actioner focuses on the fallout after a respected martial artist (Yen) is accused of murder and subsequently exiled, leaving him to search for answers about his own mysterious origin story and the unknown enemies working to destroy him.
The deal for UK and Ireland rights was negotiated between Signature Entertainment’s Chief Operating Officer Jon Bourdillon and Well Go USA’s Executive Vice President of Digital and Theatrical Distribution Jason Pfardrescher.
Bourdillon said: “We are delighted to be the home of Sakra in the UK and Ireland and can’t wait for audiences to see the epic action sequences that Donnie Yen has expertly devised.”
“We are thrilled to have Signature on board to bring Sakra to fans across Ireland and the United Kingdom,” said Pfardrescher. “Undeniably created as a love letter to the genre, Sakra is overflowing with the smooth artistry that characterizes the very best of wuxia as well as the hard-hitting action that fans know to expect from Donnie Yen.”...

There is a particular challenge in most cinema genres in making your work stand out. “Code of the Assassins” had a particularly hard route to the screen. Initially started in 2017, all sorts of production and financial problems led to a 5 year wait for it to be completed. Taking a steam punk aesthetic and directed by visual stylist Daniel Lee it certainly has potential. The only question is that after five years and a troubled production will it live up to that?

Action cinema back in the golden era of Hong Kong cinema was encapsulated with an anything goes ethos. You would get almost guerilla style film-making techniques with a complete aversion to safety and what you subsequently got on screen was the result. “Devil Hunters” concludes with one such stunt that will leave the mind boggling at how nobody got sued! It’s also a classic example of B-movie filmmaking with it fitting comfortably into the female fighting flicks that followed the success of Michelle Yeoh and “Yes Madam”. With a lot of these poorly put togethe,r will this stand out from the crowd or just be remembered for the finale?

"True action greatness!" Hi-Yah! has released one more official trailer for the "brutally entertaining" Hong Kong action film Raging Fire, which was already released in cinemas in the US a few months back. We've already posted a few trailers for this previously, but with a streaming release on the martial arts channel Hi-Yah! in October, they've dropped off another explosive trailer to enjoy. Donnie Yen stars as Shan, a highly respected hardline cop with a long history of success on dangerous cases. However, his past unexpectedly comes back to haunt him when a sting operation is attacked by a mysterious group of criminals led by Ngo, his former protégé, a talented former officer who had once respected and admired Shan but ended up in prison. Co-starring Nicholas Tse as Ngo, with Jeana Ho, Ray Lui, Patrick Tam, Ben Lam, Deep Ng, and Kang Yu. This honestly might be the best...

‘7 Assassins‘ is the latest adventure action movie directed by the veteran and more-than-prolific (credited as an actor in more than 225 films) Eric Tsang. Maybe you don’t know him for his work directing ‘Armour of God’ alongside Jackie Chan, because it wasn’t credited, but there you go. One might think that having participated in an average of almost 6 movies a year since the early 70’s, knowing how to make a good movie has no merit, as anyone could get the hang of film-making with so much experience, but that isn’t necessarily true; if it were, this wouldn’t be as popular a phrase as it is: ‘I prefer his/her early work‘. I bet you’ve used it more than once. I know I’ve done. And it’s no wonder: each year films get faster, but brains get slower; new technologies sprout every other day, but new neurons are evermore scarce…...
