'Homie-Moon' Craziness in Official 'Random Tropical Paradise' Trailer

"We're in a Fast & Furious movie right now, nothing has to make sense." Gunpowder & Sky has debuted a trailer for a wacky comedy called Random Tropical Paradise, about two friends who end up going on a honeymoon together. The story is that, when one guy discovers his soon-to-be-wife is cheating on him, he cancels the wedding. But his friend suggests that instead of cancelling the honeymoon, they turn it into a "homie-moon" and take the trip to this random tropical paradise together and have fun while they can. As with all tropical paradise movies, this dips into the drug boss trope and there's clearly a few drug trip scenes in this. Starring Bryan Greenberg, Brooks Wheelan, Joe Pantoliano, Spencer Grammer, Brittany Furlan, Beth Littleford, Kyle Kinane, & Alphonso McAuley. This looks a bit too crazy for my tastes. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Sanjeev Sirpal's Random Tropical Paradise, from YouTube: For Harry Fluder,

How Jon Stewart Changed the Way We Talk About Politics on TV

How Jon Stewart Changed the Way We Talk About Politics on TV
It's safe to say that, 17 years ago, The Daily Show was a fledgling show. "Daily satiric news anchor" was not a job. And Jon Stewart was just a stand-up comic and occasional actor, not yet the comedy nerd/political junkie's lord and savior.

Which isn't to say that Stewart and the team behind Comedy Central's late-night staple invented their own genre of topical tomfoolery. Shows like That Was the Week That Was experimented with the satirical news format as early as the Sixties. Everything from Bob & Ray to HBO's

John Oliver Ambushes 'Daily Show,' Previews HBO Series

John Oliver Ambushes 'Daily Show,' Previews HBO Series
"Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" premieres on HBO this Sunday, but the "Daily Show" veteran popped by Jon Stewart's desk to do what he does best: drink tea like a real Briton and rant.  Can't wait for his show. I need something else to watch on HBO at the moment since I watch every episode of "Veep" about six times in a single week right now. But please, can Samantha Bee catch the next big break? Or hell, Beth Littleford?   The Daily Show Get More: Daily Show Full Episodes,The Daily Show on Facebook,Daily Show Video Archive

Should Samantha Bee Take Over for Stephen Colbert?

Should Samantha Bee Take Over for Stephen Colbert?
The Daily Show Get More: Daily Show Full Episodes,Indecision Political Humor,The Daily Show on Facebook   Stephen Colbert is taking over for David Letterman. Great! Fine. Except that leaves a spot open at Comedy Central. And this is Samantha Bee's time to seize that half hour and fill the Jane Curtin-sized space in television reserved for comically exasperated female news anchors. Samantha Bee's gritty facial expressions and aggressive irreverence are a throwback to the things I cherish most -- namely, Beth Littleford, the original doyenne of "The Daily Show" correspondent team. I want a half hour of hard-hitting, deeply misinformed news led by a lady. Brooke Alvarez over at The Onion does fine work, but Samantha Bee's go-for-broke, misinformed style is ready for primetime. Who do you think should take over for Colbert?

Flashback: Jon Stewart's First 'Daily Show' Episode

Flashback: Jon Stewart's First 'Daily Show' Episode
"Welcome to 'The Daily Show'. Craig Kilborn is on assignment in Kuala Lumpur, I'm Jon Stewart."

And so began Jon Stewart's tenure as host of what has arguably become one of the most important sources of American satire over the last decade and a half. Since being created by Lizz Winstead and Madeleine Smithberg in 1996, "The Daily Show" has sought to hold both the media's and politicians' feet to the fire on wide-ranging issues. Once Stewart was chosen to replace Kilborn in 1999 -- who departed after alienating most of the show's female staff and prompting Winstead to leave after sexist comments he made in Esquire magazine -- the show was finally able to become what the creators had hoped it would be: a hilarious voice of reason and biting criticism in an absurd system.

In honor of Stewart's 50th birthday, we thought we'd take a look back at his auspicious first show,
