Claire Denis' Robert Pattinson-starring sci-fi 'High Life' lands UK deal (exclusive)
2019 release set for English-language feature.

High Life, Claire Denis’ sci-fi drama starring Robert Pattinson, has been picked up for UK distribution by Thunderbird Releasing.

The film is Denis’ first English-language feature and follows a group of convicts assigned a difficult space mission in the belief they will be freed if they are successful. Juliette Binoche, Mia Goth and André Benjamin also star.

The deal was negotiated by Kevin Chan, acquisitions manager of Thunderbird Releasing, and Olivier Barbier from sales agent Wild Bunch. The film has been slated for a UK release in early 2019.

Natalie Portman and Jude Law set for Vox Lux

Bold Films has announced that Natalie Portman (Black Swan) and Jude Law (The Young Pope) are set to star in Vox Lux, the new film from writer-director Brady Corbet (The Childhood of a Leader).

The film will star Portman as in the lead role of Celeste, and follows her rise from the ashes of a major national tragedy to pop superstardom. A 15-year odyssey, set between 1999 and the present day, Vox Lux tracks the important cultural evolutions of the 21st Century through Celeste’s eyes, and the soundtrack will feature all original songs written by Grammy-nominated artist Sia.

Natalie Portman has joined Jude Law on the cast of Vox Lux, which Bold Films has come on board to finance and produce alongside Andrew Lauren Productions (Alp).

Writer-director Brady Corbet is set to begin shooting in New York on February 1.Vox Lux charts the rise of Celeste from the ashes of a major national tragedy to pop superstardom. This 15-year odyssey, set between 1999 and the present day, tracks important cultural evolutions of the 21st Century through Celeste’s eyes.

Alp’s Andrew Lauren and D.J. Gugenheim will produce with Killer FilmsChristine Vachon and David Hinojosa, Bold Films’ Michel Litvak, Gary Michael Walters, David Litvak and Svetlana Metkina, and Brian Young from Three Six Zero Entertainment.

Rooney Mara had originally been attached to the film and when she dropped out Portman was circling the project. Variety is reporting that Juliette Binoche (The English Patient) and Andre Benjamin (Jimi: All Is By My Side) have joined Robert Pattinson (Good Time) and Mia Goth (A Cure For Wellness) in High Life, the English-language debut of director Claire Denis (White Material, 35 Shots of Rum).

The film follows a group of convicts who reduce their time behind bars in exchange for embarking on a dangerous mission to a black hole.
