As a Foley Supervisor Sound Mixer, George A. Lara had the privilege of dedicating over 40 years of his life to the world of sound and film. His career started in 1985 at Red Apple Studios in New York City as an assistant music engineer, working alongside Larry Harlow (La Fania all stars). A year later, in 1986, he started working for Sound One Studios, the top post-production facility in New York City at the time. At Sound One he began as a Projectionist and Transfers Engineer. He learned the art of Foley recording from Re-recording Mixer Michael Barry, Foley artists Elisha Birnbaum and Marko Costanzo. He devoted himself to the intricacies of cinematic sound design refining his skills under the guidance of remarkable Re-Recording mixers and Sound editors. After 14 years, in the new millennium, he decided to move to a new venture at C5, Inc. to collaborate with his present partner Marko Costanzo opening a state-of-the-art Foley Studio facility, the largest on the East coast. The last 24 years have been a wonderful journey working with visionary Directors and Sound Supervisors editors, enriching the craft and broadening the horizons. He is recognized in over 600 movies, documentaries, TV shows, video games and commercials in the industry (credited & uncredited) including 18 nominations and 4 wins. This experience has been humbling and motivating.
Many projects he collaborated on have been nominated or have won OSCAR, BAFTA, EMMY, CAS and MPSE awards through the years. The two TV series that have earned him many accolades are "Boardwalk Empire" and "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," which have been truly fulfilling experiences. He is presently a member of esteemed organizations such as the Academy of Motion Pictures (AMPAS), The TV Academy (EMMY), The Cinema Audio Society (CAS), and the Sound Editors Union Local 700. Beyond his professional commitments, he also has the challenging task of teaching Foley recording at Montclair University, mentoring young new directors in their film projects.
