Erich Kästner was born on February 23, 1899 in Dresden, Germany as Emil Erich Kästner. He was a writer and actor, known for The Parent Trap (1998), Das doppelte Lottchen (1950) and Emil und die Detektive (1931). He died on July 29, 1974 in Munich, Bavaria, West Germany.

German poet and writer, not to be mixed with his name-twin Erich Kästner (1911-2005) the award winning camera design pioneer
Gained a doctorate in German history and literature from the University of Leipzig in 1925. He helped finance his studies by part-time work as a journalist and drama critic for the 'Neue Leipziger Zeitung'.
Poet, satirist, screenwriter and author of children's books, the son of a saddle maker. His best-known works were the oft-filmed "Emil and the Detectives" and "The Parent Trap".
Served in an artillery company in World War I. His experiences during that time made him a staunch pacifist for the rest of his life.
