On 12 March 1949 the King underwent surgery for Buerger's disease - acute inflammation and thrombosis (clotting) of arteries and veins of the legs. On 23 September 1951 he underwent surgery to remove a cancerous lung, but the cancer had spread. In the early hours of 6 February 1952, a blood clot stopped his heart during his sleep. See more »
