He is a registered sex offender and has twice been arrested and charged with sexual crimes against underage girls in two separate incidents in 2003 and 2010; he pleaded guilty to third degree rape in the first incident and the second was dismissed. The incidents and Kimmel's status as a registered sex offender were not public knowledge until a story published by Variety in 2021 titled, "How a Registered Sex Offender Thrived in Hollywood", although the latter incident caused him to be removed from
Moneyball (2011).
