Former wife Rubaina Mumtaz Khan was the niece of Dilip Kumar ( Dilip's sister Taj's daughter). Rubaina acted in Muzaffar Ali's TV series Jaan E Alaam. Rubaina Mumtaz Khan's paternal grandfather was politician Fazal Nawaz Jung Bhadhur. Rubaina's younger sister Johaina Mumtaz Khan was married to actor Ronit Roy. They had a daughter named Ona Roy. Johaina has remarried to Jamal and has a son named Zayed. Rubaina's brother Syed Fahd Mumtaz is married to former actress Kiran Vairale. They have a son named Asaad Mumtaz.
Son Azhar Khan from his first marriage, is now a actor in Hollywood. He has acted in the TV serial Mr.Robot. He refuses to acknowledge Mazhar Khan as his father publicly.
