October 9th Blu-ray & DVD Releases Include Trick ’R Treat and House On Haunted Hill (1999) Collector’s Editions, Hotel Transylvania 3

 • DailyDead
For the second week of October, I hope horror fans have their wallets ready, because there are a multitude of Blu-rays and DVDs that would be perfect editions to your home entertainment collections, especially with All Hallows' Eve being just right around the corner. The fine folks at Scream Factory are truly doing the dark lord’s work this Tuesday, as they've put together some incredible Collector’s Edition Blu-rays for both House on Haunted Hill (1999) and Michael Dougherty’s Trick ’r Treat.

As far as recent releases go, Hotel Artemis and Skyscraper arrive on various formats this Tuesday, and while they both may not be straight-up genre films, each of these films flew under the radar upon their theatrical releases, and I found them both to be a lot of fun and very much worth a watch, so I felt like including them here. Also, for all the kiddos out there,

Scream Factory Blu-ray Reviews: House On Haunted Hill (1999) Collector’s Edition, Scream For Help (1984), and The Bride (1985)

 • DailyDead
As Halloween grows nearer and Scream Factory prepares to break out the big guns over the next few months in the form of titles like Trick ’r Treat, Creepshow, and Candyman, the company is still busy putting out smaller and less universally beloved titles to round out the library of every obsessive horror fan. Our latest Scream Factory roundup runs pretty much the whole gamut: we have a modern classic, an undiscovered gem, and a pretty forgettable dud. The world, as they say, is a rainbow.

Once upon a time, I would have called William Malone’s 1999 remake of House on Haunted Hill one of the most underrated horror movies of the ’90s. But like so many other films that have the benefit of time and distance, a cult of fandom has developed around the remake in the almost two decades since it was released. The first film from Dark Castle Entertainment,

Mary Willard, Comedy Playwright & Wife Of Fred Willard, Dead At 71

 • Deadline
Mary Willard, playwright, TV writer and wife of four-time Emmy nominee Fred Willard, has died at the age of 71.

Willard died on July 13, but news of her death was recently made public.

Champion is the one word that comes to mind when remembering Mary Willard and she wasn’t just Fred Willard’s best cheerleader, but she also mentored and nurtured a number of creative comedic writers and actors through the Willards’ Los Angeles-based comedy sketch group The Mohos over the last two-plus decades (which anecdotally I was a part of some years ago).

‘Let’s put on a show’ was an unofficial mantra, and within less than two-weeks time, the troupe would pull wigs out of the closet and brush up pages for performances at the Io West and The Bang Theater and even as far as the Inland Empire. Those trying out sketches at Mohos had the opportunity

Zach and Ben are two nerdy childhood best friends with a dream to go to Comic-Con. They spend their days engrossed in the adventures of superheroes and villains. They may not have a lot of friends, but they have each other. And what’s more, they have their ticket to Comic-Con: a near-complete original comic book written and illustrated entirely on their own. However, their Comic-Con plans are put on hold when Ben is forced to move with his dad to Antarctica. The two part ways, vowing that when Ben returns they will finish their comic book, make it to Comic-Con and make their dreams come true.

'Star Wars': That Time Mark Hamill Was Sold on 'SNL'
Disney missed its chance to get Mark Hamill for a steal.

The company continues to profit from its $4.06 billion acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, which brought Luke Skywalker back to the big screen (it's next film, Solo: A Star Wars Story is a month away). But in an under-the-radar Saturday Night Live sketch from 1997, the Star Wars actor was sold on the Shop at Home Network by hard-selling hosts Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan and Jim Breuer.

Tracy Morgan Reflects on His Road to the Hollywood Walk of Fame: ‘I Just Had To Be Me’

Tracy Morgan Reflects on His Road to the Hollywood Walk of Fame: ‘I Just Had To Be Me’
Tracy Morgan’s potential star power was immediately apparent to comedy kingmaker (and soon to become one of Morgan’s closest collaborators) Lorne Michaels back in 1996 when the comedian first auditioned for “Saturday Night Live.”

“You’re looking for something that on a certain level you haven’t seen before, and also at the same time something you have seen before,” says Michaels, who has countless times before and since gone through the process of sussing out just who might one day fit within the stellar firmament of comedic giants “SNL” has launched. “You could just tell on the most fundamental level that he was funny.”

Morgan is now set to receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame April 10, two decades after he rose to fame on the NBC sketch comedy series.

For Morgan, whose television experience was largely limited to appearances on the stand-up stage and a

Which Comedians Have the Best Post-‘Saturday Night Live’ TV Careers? — IndieWire Critics Survey

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)

This week’s question: Which “Saturday Night Live” alum has the best post-“SNL” television career?

Soraya Nadia McDonald (@SorayaMcDonald), The Undefeated

It’s gotta be Tina Fey, right? So many “SNL” alums have attempted to make the jump to movies, with varying degrees of success. Poor Chris Kattan. But Tina Fey really has a way with television (“30 Rock,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “Great News”) that trumps her film career. And I think it’s because Tina’s an excellent writer and television is still such a writers’ medium. She really seems like a natural at showrunning and she has a partner she clearly trusts in Robert Carlock. But I

Watch J.J. Abrams Auction Off Star Wars 9 Plot for $10K
Star Wars has been big on charity work during the Disney era. Over the course of making each one of the new movies, Disney and Lucasfilm have found quite a few opportunities to auction off amazing experiences for fans. It gives Star Wars lovers something special and it does some good for those who need it. Last night, J.J. Abrams auctioned off the chance for one lucky fan to have him whisper the plot of Star Wars 9 to them two years in advance. While the winning bid was high, it didn't go down how you'd expect.

The auction of the Star Wars 9 plot was part of HBO's Night of Too Many Stars, which was held to benefit Next for Autism. Jon Stewart was hosting the event and, at one point, he decided to bring J.J. Abrams out on stage to offer up this special opportunity. Then the bidding started. Things

Jerry Lewis Remembered by Hollywood Friends

Jerry Lewis Remembered by Hollywood Friends
Legendary comedian and performer Jerry Lewis passed away earlier this morning at the age of 91 and the comedy world is paying tribute to the legend through social media. Lewis' career and humanitarian work spanned several decades, which has influenced countless comedians and actors over the years to take up comedy while also supporting worthy causes. Lewis is known just as much for his "Jerry's Kids" telethons where he raised over $2.6 billion dollars for muscular dystrophy research, as he was for his amazing entertainment career.

In addition to comedy and humanitarian work, Lewis was also a singer, producer, director, and screenwriter. He was best known for his slapstick comedy in movies, television and radio and began performing at the young age of 5 with his parents in the Catskills Mountains in upstate New York. Early in his career he teamed up with Dean Martin and the duo ruled the nightclub scene in

Sharknado 5 Recap: In Latest Schlock Attack, the Hunted Became Hunters

Sharknado 5 Recap: In Latest Schlock Attack, the Hunted Became Hunters
I’ll say this much about sometimes-monotonous Sharknado 5: Global Swarming: it was a slight improvement on last year’s completely monotonous The 4th Awakens.

Surveying the franchise-to-date, as TVLine’s resident, I’m Getting Too Old for This Fish expert: Part 2 (The Second One) still reigns, having served up fun riffs on Airplane! and the like. Part 3 (Oh Hell No!) was inundated with un-clever NBC Universal shilling, you will (?) remember, while Part 4 seemed content to introduce a new, high-larious kind of “-nado” every five minutes… and leave it at that.

Picking up not too long after the events of The 4th Awakens,
