China box office: 'Rampage' passes 'Black Panther'
Dwayne Johnson actioner retains top spot after quiet weekend.

The lack of new blockbuster titles saw the Chinese box office shrink further by about 16% week-on-week, making Apr 16-22 the second quietest week in 2018.

Without much competition, Warner Bros’ action adventure Rampage retained the No.1 crown for the second week with $53.7m, taking up more than half of the week’s total box office.

With a 10-day total of $112m, it has surpassed Black Panther to become the third highest grossing non-Chinese film this year, after Ready Player One and Secret Superstar. It is also the highest grossing film for Dwayne

China Box Office: ‘Rampage’ Wins Quiet Weekend

China Box Office: ‘Rampage’ Wins Quiet Weekend
“Rampage” held on at the top of the Chinese box office for a second weekend win. Overall figures, however, were quiet.

The Dwayne Johnson-starring action film earned $27.4 million in its second weekend from close to 100,000 screenings per day, according to data tracking service Ent Group. That was a drop of only 50%, compared with its opening $55.1 million. After 10 days, “Rampage” has a cumulative score of $106 million.

Elsewhere, figures were mostly modest, and the cumulative total of the top 10 films adding up to only $57 million. That score is the third weakest weekend of the year.

Opening in second place, Chinese comedy “21 Karat” could only manage $10.1 million, despite its 62,000 daily screenings. Pointing to a rapid exit from theaters, its numbers dropped on Saturday and again on Sunday.

Slipping to third place, “Ready Player One” scored $8.24 million from 35,000 screenings per day. It now has a cumulative score of $207 million after 24 days, making it

‘A Quiet Place’ Again Rules the Box Office and ‘Super Troopers 2’ Makes an Impressive Return

‘A Quiet Place’ Again Rules the Box Office and ‘Super Troopers 2’ Makes an Impressive Return
This weekend, it took just $22 million to be #1 at the box office. In its third weekend, “A Quiet Place” led a closely matched group in the top four spots, bringing in about 16 percent more business than the same time last year. And this was supposed to be a calm before the storm that is next weekend’s “Avengers: Infinity War.” No one wants to position a top film ahead of that juggernaut.

Instead, we saw three wider releases take a chance at reaching targeted audiences. “I Feel Pretty” with Amy Schumer did the best of the three with a little over $16 million, with “Super Troopers 2” close behind. “Traffik” lagged behind with under $4 million in close to 1,000 theaters.

Of note for these individual titles:

A Quiet Place” returned to #1. More significantly, and nearly unheard of for a wide-release horror film, it fell only 33 percent its third weekend. John Krasinski’s

Dwayne Johnson Won’t Take You to Prom, but He Will Rent Out an Entire Theater So You Can See ‘Rampage’ — Watch
A high-school student asked Dwayne Johnson to prom, and you’ll never guess what happened next: He said no! It’s okay, though, because the only reason he politely declined was because he’ll be filming “Jungle Cruise” when the end-of-year dance takes place. In lieu of wearing a tux and getting one Katie Kelzenberg a corsage, The Rock was kind enough to rent out an entire theater so that she and her friends could see “Rampage” — and he announced it over the school’s intercom system. Watch below.

Kelzenberg invited Johnson to prom via a clever tweet, which prompted an Instagram response from the eight-time WWE Champion. “I was so impressed by this young lady’s charm and confidence to even ask me (ladies always get shy in front of me) that I had to do something special,” he writes. “I decided to rent out an entire theater (capacity

Movie Review – Rampage (2018)

Rampage, 2018.

Directed by Brad Peyton.

Starring Dwayne Johnson, Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Jake Lacy, Joe Manganiello, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, P.J. Byrne, Marley Shelton, Breanne Hill, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald, Jason Liles, Demetrius Grosse, and Will Yun Lee.

Synopsis:

When three different animals become infected with a dangerous pathogen, a primatologist and a geneticist team up to stop them from destroying Chicago.

Rampage is the type of film that you should go into expecting nothing but fun. The plot is ludicrous, the action is over the top and nonsensical and it’s packed full of clichés but somehow it’s entertaining in its stupidity. Dwayne Johnson starts as primatologist Davis Okoye who has to stop three animals that are infected with a pathogen that makes them gigantic and hugely aggressive. One of these creatures is his ape friend George who he helped save from poachers. Helped by scientist Kate Caldwell (Harris

Box Office: Amy Schumer's 'I Feel Pretty' Settles for Third Place With $16 Million Bow

Stx Entertainment's I Feel Pretty, Amy Schumer’s latest comedic star turn, charmed enough moviegoers to collect an estimated $16.2 million from 3,440 locations at the North America box office over the weekend.

But that wasn’t enough to knock John Krasinski’s horror movie A Quiet Place out of the top spot, which the Paramount release reclaimed during its third weekend of release, taking in an additional $22 million to bring its domestic total to $132 million, or to bump Warner Bros.' Dwayne Johnson starrer Rampage from the No. 2 slot as the sci-fi/monster pic took in $21 million in its second...
