These Are the 7 Highest-Paid Actresses in the World

Forbes' annual list of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood has been unveiled. Last year, La La Land star Emma Stone reigned supreme, raking in a cool $26 million for her Oscar-winning performance. She surpassed Jennifer Lawrence, who claimed the top spot in both 2016 and 2015, and who also found herself on 2018's list despite underperforming films like Mother! and Red Sparrow. But at the top of this year's ranking? Scarlett Johansson.

The 33-year-old actress earned $40.5 million in pretax earnings between June 1, 2017 and June 1, 2018. Last year, she appeared in Rough Night and Ghost in the Shell, the latter of which stirred up a whitewashing controversy. In 2018, she popped up in Isle of Dogs and Avengers: Infinity War, and recently found herself in hot water yet again after she announced she'd be portraying a transgender character in an upcoming film. With that project no longer in the works following a tidal wave of backlash,

If there are Oscars for superhero films, how about these unsung heroes? [Poll]

If there are Oscars for superhero films, how about these unsung heroes? [Poll]
Somehow, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences decided that a huge box-office wasn’t reward enough for blockbusters and created a Best Popular Film category, presumably to draw higher ratings and attract a younger demo to their telecast. Since the members seem to be in the mood to accept change, why stop there? Let’s add four more categories that will honor those behind-the-scenes talents who rarely get their due.

Here are my suggestions.

SEETom O’Neil on Oscars shame: Omg, who wants to win Best Unpopular Picture?

1. Best Motion-Capture Performance

Ever since Andy Serkis assumed the identity of that nasty ring-coveting gremlin known as Gollum in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, there’s been a push to recognize those who put dots all over their bodies so digital cameras can capture their movements while never being seen on the screen. Serkis is considered the master of the art,

Scarlett Johansson Is 2018's Highest Paid Actress in the World

Scarlett Johansson Is 2018's Highest Paid Actress in the World
It has been reported that Scarlett Johansson is the highest paid actress in Hollywood, earning $40.5 million from June 1st, 2017 to June 1st, 2018. Last year's highest paid actress was Emma Stone, who earned $26 million, thanks to the wildly successful La La Land. However, Stone did not earn over $10 million this past year, so she didn't make the list. Helping Johansson take the number one spot was the worldwide box office smash Infinity War. Johansson's Black Widow wasn't even really in the movie a whole lot, but the Marvel Studios project was enough to command her the top spot of highest paid actresses.

Avengers: Infinity War arrived in theaters at the end of April and delivered the goods to Marvel Cinematic Universe fans all over the world. To date, the film has brought in over $2 billion worldwide, easily making it the highest grossing movie of the year. Adding to Scarlett Johansson's earnings

Scarlett Johansson Is Easily 2018’s Highest-Paid Actress Thanks To ‘Avengers’ Films

Scarlett Johansson Is Easily 2018’s Highest-Paid Actress Thanks To ‘Avengers’ Films
It pays good money saving (or not saving…) the universe from Thanos, apparently.

Forbes has recently come out with its list of the 10 highest-paid actresses for 2018. And vaulting into the #1 spot, after not even making the top 10 in 2017, is none other than Black Widow, aka Scarlett Johansson, with a whopping $40.5 million.

And believe it or not, if you look at her output over the last year, it’s mostly coming from her role in “Avengers: Infinity War” and the upcoming “Avengers 4.” Not too shabby at all, especially considering her very limited screentime in the aforementioned ‘Infinity War.’ Johansson has become a highly sought-after actress, commanding big paydays and spearheading productions.

The Wasp Should Lead Any All-Female ‘Avengers’ Movie, Peyton Reed Says
If an all-female “Avengers” movie comes to fruition, “Ant-Man and the Wasp” director Peyton Reed said he would like to see Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne take charge.

“I’d like her running things. I’d like to see her as the head of the all-female Avengers,” Reed told The Huffington Post.

Of course, he added, Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) — who has “captain” in her name — might ultimately beat The Wasp out for the role of lady Avenger ringleader.

“Maybe that would be ‘Captain Marvel,’ because she does have the word ‘captain’ in her name. But I think Hope van Dyne is a very decisive leader and a tactician, in addition to being a brilliant scientist. So she checks a lot of boxes in terms of who’s going to be running the Avengers, theoretically,” Reed said.

In a previous interview, Reed said Hope van Dyne had her own

Scarlett's Black Widow Dough and 2018's Highest Paid Actresses

I always find Forbes annual list of highest paid actresses suspect because when you dig into it you realize the huge sums aren't necessarily for acting but for being spokespersons for various products or fashion houses. Of course that requires the celebrity that comes from acting hence the fusion of commerce and art. With some mainstays of the list, like Jennifer Aniston who is on it every year, the money is largely for commercials with the films being commercials for her celebrity to keep the commercial endorsement business going. With others the money is largely the frequent hit films (Melissa McCarthy). Franchises definitely help: Cate Blanchett and Scarlett Johansson both made Marvel money this past year, Angelina Jolie's big number is her upfront pay for Maleficent 2, and Gal Gadot's is her sudden cash-in on her new celebrity from helping to make Wonder Woman such a massive global

‘Albert Nobbs’ Star Glenn Close Weighs In On Scarlett Johansson Transgender Casting Controversy

‘Albert Nobbs’ Star Glenn Close Weighs In On Scarlett Johansson Transgender Casting Controversy
Glenn Close, who starred in the 2011 film Albert Nobbs as a woman living life as the male title character, weighed in on the recent controversy over Scarlett Johansson’s casting in a transgender role.

“My thinking right now is that people who are producing and directing properties like that need to go out of their way to get trans actors jobs,” Close said in a podcast with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, “but they also should have the opportunity to cast the best person.”

Listen to the podcast below.

Close added that “acting is a craft” and that she believes “anyone should be able to play anyone. But I do understand the frustration.”

Last month, Johansson withdrew from the film Rub & Tug, in which she’d been cast as a transgender man. Her casting had been criticized by many in the transgender community, and GLAAD later called her withdrawal

Scarlett Johansson Dethrones Emma Stone as World’s Highest-Paid Actress
Scarlett Johansson is this year’s highest-paid actress, raking in $40.5 million in pretax earnings between June 1, 2017 and June 1, 2018.

According to Forbes, Johansson quadrupled her earnings from 2017 to bump Emma Stone from the No. 1 spot. Last year, Stone banked $26 million, dethroning Jennifer Lawrence, who had topped Forbes’ ranking two years in a row.

Johansson’s role as Black Widow in Marvel’s “The Avengers” has made the actress extremely profitable, especially with the recent film “Infinity War” grossing a whopping $2 billion at the global box office.

Scarlett Johansson Is 2018’s Highest-Paid Actress With $40.5 Million

La La Land‘s Emma Stone is no longer perched at the top of the charts.

Per Forbes, Avengers: Infinity War actress Scarlett Johansson collected $40.5 million in pre-tax earnings between June 1st, 2017 and June 1st, 2018, which is almost twice that of her nearest competitor, Angelina Jolie (Maleficent), who lifted approximately $28 million during the same period.

Third place goes to former Friends star Jennifer Aniston ($19.5 million), who continues to rake in the big bucks thanks to her endorsement of Emirates Airlines, Smartwater and Aveeno. There’s serious money to be made in advertising, after all, which helps explain why Jennifer Lawrence managed to clinch fourth despite her two most recent titles – namely Mother! and Red Sparrow – struggling to leave much of an impression at the box office.

Forbes didn’t disclose the actress’ pre-tax earnings between 2017 and 2018, though we can assume that her total paycheck fell in the region of $17M-$19M,

Avengers: Infinity War star earned $40.5m, surpassing Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston, but is dwarfed by male counterparts

Scarlett Johansson has been named as the world’s highest-paid female actor after earning $40.5m (£31.2m) in the year to June 2018.

Johansson did not feature in Forbes magazine’s top 10 last year, and the actor’s newfound earning power has been ascribed to her role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The second part of Avengers: Infinity War is due for release next spring.

Marvel’s Avengers films are certainly a big reason for the actress’ earnings, with another film on the way which will feature Johansson’s Black Widow in 2019.

The Russos say Captain America and Black Widow will have a “harder edge” in Avengers 4

The directors of Avengers: Infinity War, Anthony and Joe Russo, have revealed that Captain America and Black Widow will demonstrate a “harder edge” in Avengers 4.

While some fans might have been hoping to see a little more of Captain America and Black Widow in Avengers: Infinity War – something that was difficult thanks to the massive cast involved – there’s no denying that the two were depicted as the grizzled veterans that they are.

This trend is set to continue in Avengers 4 and the Russos have told Wired that the two characters will be even tougher when the time comes: “In Winter Soldier, what we found so compelling about pairing [Black Widow] up with Captain America was that he is a service paragon of morality and she is a paragon of gray,” said Joe Russo. “But they’ve grown together and I think when you find them in this movie and

Glenn Close Says “Anyone Should Be Able To Play Anyone” In Response To ‘Rub & Tug’ Controversy

There has been ongoing media attention and conversation around Scarlett Johansson‘s casting as Dante Tex Gill in “Rug & Tug,” a film that would have seen the actress play the part of a trans-man who ran a steroids empire and a ring of illicit massage parlors in the ‘70s.

When the Internet found out last month that Johansson would star and produce in a biopic about Pittsburgh crime boss, the backlash came quick and hard, with Lgbtq actors, actresses, and groups coming out against her casting, calling it problematic.

Avengers 4 Directors Tease A Harder Edged Captain America And Black Widow

Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe is populated with numerous cool superheroes, there are few who’ve risen to the levels of sheer badassery for which Captain America and Black Widow are known. Having been around since the earlier films of Phase One, both have won over countless True Believers thanks to memorable performances given by Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson, respectively.

Now, with Avengers 4 creeping up fast, one can only hope those two are granted a hell of a lot more screentime than they were in Infinity War. It sounds like we’ll get just that, thankfully, as apparently, the pair have grown closer, something co-director Joe Russo admitted while speaking with Wired:

“In Winter Soldier, what we found so compelling about pairing [Black Widow] up with Captain America was that he is a service paragon of morality and she is a paragon of gray. But they’ve grown
