‘Rub & Tug’: Don’t Let Scarlett Johansson Dropping Out Kill Hollywood’s First Trans Studio Film — Opinion

‘Rub & Tug’: Don’t Let Scarlett Johansson Dropping Out Kill Hollywood’s First Trans Studio Film — Opinion
Transgender representation in Hollywood scored a huge victory last week when Scarlett Johansson stepped down from “Rub & Tug,” in which she was set to play a trans man — but it would be just as bad if the project disappeared entirely.

Naysayers are quick to point out there are no trans actors famous enough to carry a movie the way Johansson can, but “Rub & Tug” has a chance to reverse that narrative. The film is now high profile regardless of who is in the role; the casting controversy provided far more free publicity than Johansson’s name. If the film fizzles out, it would support the notion that trans movies can only get made with an A-lister attached. “Rub & Tug” needs to happen now more than ever, to prove trans movies don’t need cis movie stars to sell tickets.

Rub & Tug” is now “the movie that Scarlet Johansson dropped out of,

Dwayne Johnson Blasted by Paralympian for Playing Amputee In Skyscraper: We Are Being ‘Sidelined’

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is coming under fire from a Paralympian for playing a former FBI agent with a prosthetic leg in his new movie, Skyscraper.

On Monday, Katy Sullivan — a bilateral above knee amputee and four-time Paralympic Games champion who has appeared as an actress on shows like NCIS: New Orleans and My Name Is Earl — wrote an open letter to Johnson published by Deadline, asking the 46-year-old action star to “stop saying ‘Yes’ to roles” that involve putting on “the mask of disability.”

“Individuals with disabilities make up almost 20 percent of the world’s population,” she wrote in her piece,

‘Rub & Tug’ Reportedly Not Moving Forward Due To Scarlett Johansson Departure

Scarlett Johansson is one of the few actors in Hollywood, male or female, that can get a film produced just on their name alone. If Johansson signs up for a film, and agrees to help produce it, then suddenly there are a ton of studios that are interested. It appears that’s the case with the film “Rub & Tug.” Without her involvement, the film seems to be falling apart.

Blu-ray Review – Isle of Dogs (2018)

Isle of Dogs, 2018.

Directed by Wes Anderson

Featuring the voice talents of Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Bob Balaban, Kunichi Nomura, Ken Watanabe, Greta Gerwig, Frances McDorman, Live Schreiber, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, and F. Murray Abraham.

Synopsis:

Wes Anderson is a modern day auteur who keeps cranking out movies for a loyal audience. He may never have a box office home run, but he’ll keep hitting doubles and triples. His latest effort is Isle of Dogs, which is available now on Blu-ray. The bonus features are scant, but he and Criterion are BFFs, so something more substantial is probably on the horizon.

I’d love to see Wes Anderson do more stop-motion animated films, since it’s a format well-suited to the world-building he does with every movie. Isle of Dogs is his second such film, after 2009’s Fantastic Mr. Fox, and it builds on

Future of ‘Rub & Tug’ Film in Limbo After Scarlett Johansson’s Exit

  • The Wrap
The future of “Rub & Tug” is in limbo following Scarlett Johansson’s exit from the project because of objections to her playing a trans man.

According to an individual with knowledge of the project, it is unclear if “Rub & Tug” will actually go into production. The insider indicated it doesn’t look good for the movie, which still has director Rupert Sanders attached.

Johansson’s production company, These Pictures, was a producer on the project, and it’s unclear whether Johansson and These Pictures will stay on to produce. Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures is also listed as a production company on the film, but Silver did not respond to requests for comment.

Fire and Fuhrer: Why Hollywood Is So Focused on Adolf Hitler These Days (Guest Blog)
It may be too flippant to say Adolf Hitler is having yet another moment. But there is ample evidence, at least in the cultural world. Scarlett Johansson and Sam Rockwell are making the satire “Jojo Rabbit,” in which writer-director-star Taika Waititi takes on the Fuhrer’s persona. At the same time, devoted fans of “The Man in the High Castle,” Amazon’s original series that imagines what America would have been like had the Allied powers lost World War II and Hitler became a true world leader, are anxiously awaiting the official release date of the third season.

“Hitler’s Hollywood,” a new documentary, from filmmaker Rudiger Suchsland, is drawing a lot of attention

One scholar keenly in touch with perhaps this morbid curiosity among the younger set is Noah Isenberg, director of the Screen Studies Program at the New School in New York, who teaches a popular class entitled “Berlin-New York-Hollywood.

The Black Widow Movie Is Officially a Go! Here's What We Know About It So Far

It's official: Black Widow is getting her own standalone Marvel film! This is game-changing news, because a majority of the heroes in the core Avengers group - specifically Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America - have multiple standalone films. The announcement came after a couple of additional inclusive projects from the comics juggernaut: the female-led Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson, hits theaters in 2019, and the groundbreaking Black Panther, which shattered multiple records after its Feb. 16 debut.

When it comes to Black Widow, there's an extra piece of exciting news: not only will a woman take the lead on writing the screenplay, but the film will also be the second Marvel film directed by a woman. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Cate Shortland, director of the Nazi drama Lore, signed on to direct the standalone film on July 12, with TiMER writer Jac Schaeffer penning the script. Shortland was tapped after a

Kevin Feige says Avengers 4 is ahead of schedule

With both Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel taking place prior to the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel fans face an anxious wait to see what comes next after Thanos’ snap, with Avengers 4 – rumoured to be titled Avengers: End Game – still some nine months away from release.

Nevertheless, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has provided Birth.Movies.Death with an update on the status of the next Avengers outing, revealing that editing is underway and things are moving ahead of schedule.

“We’re just starting the edit,” said Feige. “The Russo brothers have worked on their cut, and we’ve been together in the editing room for a couple weeks now, so it’s very early days. Transgender Community Praises Scarlett Johansson for Bailing on Rub and Tug
Rub & Tug will be looking for a new actor to take on the role of Dante "Tex" Gill after Scarlett Johansson decided to leave the project. The transgender community has applauded Johansson's decision to leave the movie after tearing the actress to shreds for taking on the role in the first place. It was announced earlier this month that Scarlett Johansson was going to play a transgender man in Rub & Tug, which saw a tremendous backlash. However, that controversy was nothing compared to the backlash that occurred after Johansson released a statement defending her casting.

Dozens of transgender actors, filmmakers, artists, and activists have voiced their support for Johansson after her statement. Rain Valdez, an actress and producer was moved to tears by Johansson's decision to leave Rub & Tug. She had this to say.
