Jaromil Jires was born on December 10, 1935 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. He was a director and writer, known for The Joke (1969), And Give My Love to the Swallows (1972) and Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (1970). He died on October 26, 2001 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Trivia (1)

Director identified with the Czech New Wave in the 1960's, noted for often selecting controversial subject matter and employing non-professional actors. He studied film administration prior to gaining degrees in photography and film direction from the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU). Also active in television.
