Abraham Ozler Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Jayaram, Mammootty, Anoop Menon, Anaswara Rajan, Arjun Ashokan, Jagadish
Director: Midhun Manuel Thomas
Abraham Ozler Movie Review Out ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
What’s Good: Director Midhun adeptly concludes the film with a twist. The surprise cameo by Mammootty adds a highlight, leaving a lasting impression. Screenplay writer Dr. Randheesh Krishnan introduces engaging medical jargon, maintaining viewer engagement. Jayaram’s commendable performance and standout acts by supporting cast members enhance the film’s appeal.
What’s Bad: The initial sense of repetitiveness dampens thrills in the first half. The film’s execution must be more intense, with intriguing elements losing momentum. Clumsiness in certain scenes and less-polished dialogues contribute to a descent in the film’s overall impact.
Loo Break: Around the 59-minute mark, Jagadish is introduced at a hospital. Take a break only if absolutely necessary. If you can’t avoid a restroom break,...

What’s Good: Mohanlal’s versatile performance as Advocate Vijayamohan anchors the movie, showcasing commendable preparation and immersion in the character. The initial half captivates with compelling courtroom scenes, notably Siddique’s portrayal of the defense lawyer.
What’s Bad: The film needs to improve in maintaining balance, with exaggerated situations and an unnecessarily extended latter portion. Some scenes feel overly dramatic and need more authenticity, deviating from the genuine storytelling expected in Malayalam films.
Loo Break: Consider a loo break during the scene where Jagadish, portraying the victim’s father, goes around lawyers to seek representation for his daughter in court.

What’s Good: Director Arun Varma’s debut impresses with a swift narrative and a strategic placement of lead actors. Suresh Gopi delivers a no-nonsense portrayal, complemented by Biju Menon’s nuanced performance as Nishanth. Jagadish stands out with a compelling performance, adding depth to the supporting cast. The film successfully generates thrills without resorting to graphic visuals, thanks to Jakes Bejoy’s discerning music.
What’s Bad: While the screenplay unfolds seamlessly, the second half feels rushed, impacting the climax. The film, at times, leans on predictable moments due to Suresh Gopi’s established cop image, potentially diminishing script unpredictability. Malayalam superstar Suresh Gopi is looking incredibly intense, in the trailer for his upcoming film ‘Garudan’. A crime-thriller-drama film with a touch of psychological horror, Suresh Gopi is essaying the role of a man who won’t rest until he finds justice.
In ‘Garudan’, Suresh Gopi plays the role of Commandant Harish Madhavan who is a senior officer of the Kerala Armed Police.
Actor Biju Menon on the other hand essays the role of a college professor called Nishant, who now finds himself unwittingly involved in a complex legal problem.
A grounded and rather rooted thriller, the trailer boasts very high production value while at the same time not appearing over-the-top, in a darker and more experimental filmmaking style.
There is no sense of grandeur or some massive spectacle here. Instead, what we see is a very compelling trailer which says a lot about the characters while still revealing next...

In MemoriamSiddique and his partner Lal were really good with situational humour and made their funniest scenes without stereotyping, at no one's expense.SiddiqueEven though Malayalam filmmaker Siddique, who passed away on August 8, is remembered along with his partner Lal for the films they wrote and directed, the two of them had begun by writing stories that others directed. They contributed to one of the most celebrated films in Malayalam, Manichitrathazhu. They were really good with situational humour and made their funniest scenes without the usual stereotyping, at anyone's expense. Later when they split ways, Siddique continued directing comedies and slipped a few into other languages too. A listicle of his films wouldn't be complete without the early films he and Lal wrote for, and without his later stints in Tamil and Hindi. NewsSiddique had directed many popular comedies in Malayalam cinema with his friend Lal, like 'Godfather', 'In Harihar Nagar', and 'Ramji Rao Speaking'.Writer and director of many comedies in Malayalam cinema, Siddique, passed away in Kochi on August 8, Tuesday. He suffered a cardiac arrest on Saturday at a hospital in Kochi, where he was admitted since July 10 due to respiratory issues. The 60-year-old filmmaker hailed from Kochi. Like many artistes of his generation, Siddique had begun his career at the mimicry troupe run by Kalabhavan, a prestigious arts centre in Kerala. With Lal, his friend and colleague at Kalabhavan, he forayed into Malayalam cinema in the latter half of the 80s, writing comedies of a new flavour with an element of melancholy in them. If comedies were mostly written as a parallel track in films until then, in Siddque and Lal’s works, they merged with the main storyline,...

CinemaNot unlike in real life, mothers in cinema had to either don the cape of an angel or prepare themselves to be demonised, while the wives, daughters, and sisters had to live within the confines of one-dimensional images. For the longest time, Malayalam cinema has put mothers on a pedestal. One of the most iconic scenes in Malayalam celluloid continues to be the climactic shot in Sibi Malayil’s Thaniyavarthanam (1987), featuring a traumatised mother (Kaviyoor Ponnamma) feeding rice laced with poison to her adult son (Mammootty) with a mental illness. These images are juxtaposed with those of a much younger mother feeding her baby, essentially manipulating the audience, and leaving anyone with an iota of compassion struggling to hold back their tears. Not unlike in real life, mothers in cinema simply had no way out — either they don the cape of an angel or prepare themselves to be demonised. Not surprisingly,...

ReviewIrshad Parari, making his debut as writer-director, has a cute idea of a story, but it gets stretched too far and snaps.Ayalvaashi begins well – animated drawings, the kind children would create, forming the visuals of the opening credits, and setting the background of the film. The opening is enjoyable too, with an engagement party in the house, young women dancing, and seniors in the family walking helter-skelter arranging everything. You make out the main characters from the opening animation – three male friends who grew up together, and their families. But just as you are about to warm up to the narrative, the film slips through many holes in the script and hardly ever finds itself back on its feet. ReviewThe film, which tells Itoop and Kochuthresiamma’s unusually long story of togetherness, addresses why the feelings of the elderly are no laughing matter. When 90-something Itoop finds an old love letter addressed to his 90-something wife Kochuthresiamma, he is enraged, calls for a family meeting, and looks perplexed as his children and grandchildren laugh and make jokes about it. It is the expected reaction — why is Grandpa Itoop so worked up about a 50-year-old love letter, why take it seriously at all. This is what Pookkaalam, the film which tells Itoop and Kochuthresiamma’s unusually long story of togetherness, tries to explain — why the feelings of the elderly are no laughing matter. To a large extent, the film works too. It is a stress-free, and somewhat enjoyable, two hours, if you ignore some of the humour that falls flat. This is director Ganesh Raj’s second film, after his successful debut Aanandam,...

ReviewThe story flows in a very straight path, without unexpected turns or strange abstractions that you might expect from someone who made a surrealistic film like ‘Aavasavyuham’.There is something really sad about Sebastian. You almost miss it when you first come to know of him, this policeman who tells tall tales to his coterie, a bunch of subordinates who act like teenage fans. But that’s his fame. Children in the neighbourhood and young people joining the police force know him as Super Sebastian. What a buildup for this oddly interesting character, leading the story of Purusha Pretham, a film made by Krishand who directed the multiple-award winning Aavasayuham last year. Prasanth Alexander, an actor obviously underutilised for years, transforms into Sebastian, exhibiting an unlikeable demeanour. Darshana Rajendran’s character, Susanna, describes him as rude and annoying. Yet, he is not exactly rude as far as stereotypical police behaviour goes.

It is directed by Krishand, who made the critically acclaimed Aavasavyuham, which won the Kerala state award for best film and screenplay in 2021. Darshana Rajendran, Prasanth Alexander, and Devaki Rajendran play the lead roles in Purusha Pretham. The film will release on the Ott platform SonyLIV on March 24. MollywoodThe Shaji Kailas era in Malayalam cinema gave leverage to the emergence of the bombast-spouting alpha male heroes on screen. At a time when flawed, sensitive male characters are finding space on the screen, where do his alpha male heroes feature? Neelima MenonThe word is that filmmakers of the older generation from Sibi Malayil, Sathyan Anthikad, and Kamal to Lal Jose, are all struggling to make an impact, with their cinematic graphs showing a decline in the last 10 years. Among them is Shaji Kailas, one of the most successful mainstream filmmakers in Malayalam cinema, who had been in self-imposed exile for a long time since 2013 after his Malayalam film, Ginger (2013), a comedy headlining Jayaram, sank without a trace. Now 9 years later, when Malayalam cinema is chasing newer narratives, milieus, and subverting cliches and stereotypes, Shaji Kailas re-emerged with Kaduva, a story set in the ’90s, headlining an alpha male hero...
