One-half of Dawn of the singing group Tony Orlando & Dawn.
Before joining Tony Orlando & Dawn, she was a top background singer in the Detroit area, singing background vocals on records for such artists as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett, Isaac Hayes, Dionne Warwick and The Four Tops.
Sister of Teresa Hopkins.
Even though she played the younger sister of Harriet in Family Matters, she in reality is a year in a half older than JoMarie Payton.
Telma Hopkins was originally cast as Bill Cosby's wife on his show "Cosby" (not to be confused with the earlier, more famous "Cosby Show"), but was replaced by Phylicia Rashad who had also played his wife on the "Cosby Show." Mr. Cosby said this change was made because Ms. Rashad was more comfortable working with him when he goes into improv mode.
