Cronenberg/Pattinson Movie Acquired by German Distributor, Screened in Toronto: Cannes 2014?

Robert Pattinson and David CronenbergMaps to the Stars’ gets German distribution, Toronto screening Starring Robert Pattinson, Julianne Moore, John Cusack, and Mia Wasikowska, Maps to the Stars has found a German distributor. Screen Daily reports that Christian Meinke’s Mfa+ has acquired the rights to the David Cronenberg-directed Hollywood satire at the American Film Market, recently held in Santa Monica. Mfa+ also picked up Vincent Grashaw’s feature debut Coldwater and Tobias Lindholm’s Danish thriller A Hijacking / Kapringen, which has a similar premise to that of the Paul Greengrass and Tom Hanks hit Captain Phillips. David Cronenberg’s ‘Map To The Stars’ Adds More Names

Map To The Stars already has a rather star-studded cast, which includes Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Williams and Robert Pattinson, and it as just been announced that Emilia McCarthy, Justin Kelly and Jayne Heitmeyer have also been added to the list.

Map To The Stars takes a look at the growing culture of celebrity obsession, and isn’t the only movie to study this cultural change, with the most recent release on the subject The Bling Ring starring Emma Watson. In Map To The Stars, we see John Cusack play an La psychotherapist and life coach who has made his fortune publishing self-help books. His wife (Olivia Williams) is an overbearing mother of their 13-year-old son, who are then joined by their estranged daughter (Wasikowska), who has just been released from a psychiatric hospital. She meets and befriends an aspiring actor/limo driver, played by Robert Pattinson.

Margot Robbie to Star Opposite Will Smith in Focus; David Cronenberg Casts Emilia McCarthy, Jayne Heitmeyer, and Justin Kelly in Maps To The Stars

A bit more casting to pass on before the night ends: Margot Robbie is nearly set to sign on for the female lead in Focus opposite Will Smith.  They plan con artists in Glenn Ficarra and John Requa's follow-up to Crazy, Stupid, Love. David Cronenberg cast Emilia McCarthyJayne Heitmeyer, and Justin Kelly in his next feature, Maps to the Stars.  Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, Robert PattinsonJohn Cusack, Olivia Williams and Sarah Gadon also star. Into the Screen has released a new set of photos and posters from sci-fi romance Upside Down, co-written and directed by Juan Diego Solanas.

Upside Down is a film produced by a French box, Studio 37, where the filming took place in Montreal, before the cameras of the Argentine director Juan Solanas. The cast is composed of international actors: Kirsten Dunst and Jim Sturgess. As for the story, she falls into a world where different worlds meet. Adam lives in one of these worlds, struggling within a civilization ravaged by war and haunted by memories of a young woman from another world, very close, so close, but denied entry.
