‘Outlander’ Author Diana Gabaldon on ‘Blood of My Blood’ Book Plans & the Final Season
Image
The clock may be ticking for Outlander on TV, but the story is everlasting for bestselling author Diana Gabaldon, who writes the historical fantasy books (nine and counting!) upon which the show is based. Debuting in 1991, the first Outlander novel has spawned several sequels, spinoff novellas, and ultimately the intense Starz drama that viewers have come to love. With the final episodes on the horizon and new prequel series Blood of My Blood forthcoming, Gabaldon reflects on the show’s end and offers a peek inside her notebook. What have you been happy to see so far in Season 7? Diana Gabaldon: One of the things the Outlander production as a whole does really well is battle scenes. We’ve had a certain amount of the [American Revolution’s] Battle of Ticonderoga, the first Battle of Saratoga, and a lot of the second Battle of Saratoga. And I absolutely loved the actor playing Benedict Arnold,...

Don’t mess with badass Claire in full protective mode!

Seven Kings Must Die Completely Changes The Last Kingdom's Book Ending (It Had No Other Choice)
Image
Warning! Spoilers for Seven Kings Must Die!

Seven Kings Must Die deviates heavily from its source material, including making a much-needed ending change to the book series. As always, in adaptations between literature and the screen, some changes are necessary to finish the story in a way that best suits the medium and the abridged story, even when it deviates from the source material. The Last Kingdom and, by proxy, Seven Kings Must Die change many elements of the original novels and have done throughout their production. As such, it makes sense that the series and film lead to a significantly different ending in Seven Kings Must Die than the one found in the books.

Seven Kings Must Die is a sequel to The Last Kingdom series and is roughly based on the book series The Saxon Stories. The film catches up with Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon), with his...

Image
After it was announced that Uhtred Bebbanburg's story would be concluded in the movie, The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die, Netflix have revealed details about the cast and story, and released the trailer. Based on Bernard Cornwell's novels, The Last Kingdom follows the life of Uhtred, an Anglo-Saxon nobleman, who finds himself trying to reclaim his birthright after he was taken and raised by Danes when he was young. While Uhtred would do anything to protect his "new family", his loyalties to them are tested as he begins to reconnect with his roots and help King Alfred (David Dawson) with his dream to unite all kingdoms under one ruler.

While the ending of The Last Kingdom did end on a positive note for Uhtred as he finally reclaimed his birthright and became the Lord of Bebbanburg again, his story wasn't finished just yet as his region is the...

Two-Part ‘Outlander’ Season 7 Sets June Premiere Date — Here’s Your First Look
Image
“Outlander” is giving fans a little more time before they have to say goodbye — and giving subscribers more of a reason to sign up for a full year instead of just a few months. Season 7 of the time-travel romance will air in two parts, Starz said on Wednesday, with the first half airing this year and the second half waiting for 2024.

Season 7, as previously announced, consists of 16 episodes, the show’s highest order count since Season 1. Like Season 1, which aired in 2014 and 2015, Season 7 will be split into two eight-episode bunches — the “Droughtlander” is officially over on June 16. “Outlander” has already been renewed for a final Season 8, which will consist of 10 episodes and presumably air in 2025 or later.

It is currently unclear if the show, based on Diana Gabaldon’s series of historical-fantasy romance novels, will completely adapt the entire saga. Each season of “Outlander” thus far has adapted (roughly) one...

‘Outlander’ Renewed for 8th and Final Season by Starz
Image
Put on your kilts and break out the bagpipes in mourning: “Outlander” is coming to an end. The hit Starz TV series has been renewed for an eighth and final season, the premium cable channel announced Thursday. The news comes ahead of Season 7 of the series, which will premiere in Summer 2023.

The news makes it unclear if the show, which is based Diana Gabaldon’s series of historical fantasy romance novels, will adapt the most recent installment, 2021’s “Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.” Each season of “Outlander” has thus far roughly adapted one book in the series, with the upcoming seventh season set to cover 2009’s “An Echo in the Bone” and Season 8 presumably covering 2014’s “Written in My Own Heart’s Blood.” That said, Season 7 is set to have an extended 16-episode run, while Season 8 will consist of 10 episodes, so its possible that longer length can help cover all three books.

‘Better Things’ Final Season Trailer is Released by FX; Adult Swim Renews ‘Birdgirl’ and ‘Smiling Friends’ (TV News Roundup)
Image
FX has released the first trailer for the fifth and final season of “Better Things,” its original comedy series created by, executive produced by and starring Pamela Adlon.

Adlon stars as Sam, a working actress raising three daughters in Los Angeles attempting to navigate her life and find fulfillment. Mikey Madison, Hannah Alligood and Olivia Edward portray Sam’s daughter, who are each struggling to come of age, while Celia Imrie portrays Sam’s mother, who deals with increasingly difficult mental and physical health issues. Adlon heavily based the series on her own experiences as an actor raising three daughters.

The trailer for the new season sees Sam working on a new movie, giving a presentation to an elementary school class and arguing with her daughters. The new season will feature Danny Trejo, Lena Waithe, Ron Cephas Jones, Casey Wilson, Angela Kinsey and Lennon Parham as guest stars.

‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’ Review
Stars: Samuel L. Jackson, Ryan Reynolds, Elodie Yung, Salma Hayek, Gary Oldman, Richard E. Grant, Rod Hallett | Written by Tom O’Connor | Directed by Patrick Hughes

Professional hitman Darius Kinkaid (Jackson) and executive bodyguard Michael Bryce (Reynolds) have both been around a long time. So when Kinkaid is coerced by the government into testifying against a foreign dictator, he’s dropped into the hands of a reluctant Bryce, who wisely wants nothing to do with the man. Movies being movies, this means that the pair should expect to be spending a lot of time together in the imminent future: from England to the Netherlands, in fact.

Likewise, stars Jackson and Reynolds have both been around awhile too, and they easily slip into their respective roles. The Hitman’s Bodyguard is essentially “Samuel L. Jackson Says Motherfucker: The Movie”, playing off the actor’s usual sweary persona even more than his Snakes on a Plane.

Jackson together for one wild ride. Lionsgate has also released the final poster, along with two character posters featuring both the Hitman, Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) and his reluctant Bodyguard, Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds). The studio has also unveiled new photos, which give us a new look at Salma Hayek's Sonia Kincaid, Darius' wife.

The world's top protection agent (Ryan Reynolds) is called upon to guard the life of his mortal enemy, one of the world's most notorious hitmen (Samuel L. Jackson). The relentless bodyguard and manipulative assassin have been on the opposite end of the bullet for years and are thrown together for a wildly outrageous 24 hours. Ryan Reynolds & Samuel L. Jackson reluctantly team up in the red band trailer for The Hitman’s Bodyguard
Author: Zehra Phelan

Warning: This news bulletin contains a trailer with a suggested parental guidance notice, should be the words uttered when witnessing the brand new red band trailer for Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson’s hilarious profanity-laden The Hitman’s Bodyguard.

Related: Ryan Reynolds News

Reynolds and Jackson team us as a formidable pair in the trailer for The Hitman’s Bodyguard, which is set to Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You (a tongue in cheek nod to her film The Bodyguard), see’s Reynolds as the world’s top protection agent, looking slick in his grey suit, good looks and vanity-fuelled personality getting more than he bargains for when he is called upon to guard the life of notorious hitman played by an angry potty-mouthed Jackson. It’s an all out gun totting action comedy that from the trailer alone will have you doubled up...

Hitman's Bodyguard Trailer Teams Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds
Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds in The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017)
If you've been dreaming of the day where Deadpool and Nick Fury trade R-rated barbs on the big screen, you may have to just keep dreaming. But, if you'll settle for Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson cursing and shooting up a storm in a non-superhero movie, then the red band trailer for The Hitman's Bodyguard should be right up your alley, along with a new photo. Fans and exhibitors who attended CinemaCon earlier this month got to see an early screening of this action thriller, the rest of us will have to wait until August 18, and judging from this trailer, this could be a sleeper hit of the summer

Ripper Street Episode 7 Review: A Man Of My Company
Last night we saw the penultimate episode of Ripper Street unfold, and what a tragic day it was for Whitechapel’s H Division. An ominous episode, was A Man Of My Company, that was littered with twists and secrecy focused around the mysterious past of Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg) and his companion and love, Long Susan (MyAnna Buring).

The sixth episode, Tournament Of Shadows, questioned the identity of Homer Jackson, as Constantine claimed he was not who he says and that he was not a Pinkerton. Also the ring, inscribed with the name of Matthew Judge, that appeared in the second episode (In My Protection) pointed to Jackson being this man Judge, the man whom the Pinkerton’s have been searching for. The situation is exacerbated at the opening of ‘A Man of My Company’ when an American businessman Theodore P. Swift (Ian McElhinney, another actor pulled out of...

DVD Review: Terra Nova – The Complete Series
Terra Nova: The Complete Series

Stars: Jason O’Mara, Shelley Conn, Landon Liboiron, Naomi Scott, Alana Mansour, Christine Adams, Allison Miller, Rod Hallett, Stephen Lang | Created by Kelly Marcel, Craig Silverstein

The year is 2149 and Earth is overdeveloped and overcrowded with the majority of plant and animal life extinct. With the world dying and the future of mankind in doubt, the only hope for survival is a rift in time that allows some of the population make “pilgrimages” to a different time stream, some 85 million years into Earth’s Cretaceous past, where man must co-exist with dinosaur…

Billed as “event television” on its debut in 2011, Terra Nova is a sci-fi epic from producer Steven Spielberg which, like the previous big-budget Spielberg/Amblin sci-fi show for network television, Earth 2, was sadly cancelled after only one season of 13 episodes – which ran mere four months from September 2011 to December 2011. The problem with the show,...

Terra Nova has been Canceled by Fox: Shopped to New Network
Terra Nova Canceled. Fox Network has canceled the freshman sci-fi TV show series after its thirteen episode first season. I am not surprised by this at all. I lost interest after the series after the three episode after I realized the main characters were destined to get out of every jam they got into.

In addition the series plot holes were ridiculous. From the first episode: Dr. Elisabeth Shannon (Shelley Conn) sneaks into a prison a metal hand laser. No one checked her? She was able to get that through metal detectors? Even if her husband Jim Shannon (Jason O’Mara) cut his way out of his cell, then what? He is still in prison. The cells were idiotic looking and they just happened to let people freely pass things to one another. That was convenient.

One more thing on the laser front: if small, portable lasers are out in the public,...

Terra Nova: Cancelled; Season Two Still Possible?
The Terra Nova TV show has been officially cancelled by the Fox network. However, though you won't see dinosaurs back on the Fox schedule next season, there's still hope for a second season.

For those who came in late, Terra Nova's produced by Steven Spielberg and revolves around a time when our planet has become over-developed and overcrowded. Mankind's only chance for survival is to make use of a newly discovered fracture in time and try to colonize pre-historic Earth. The cast includes Jason O'Mara, Shelley Conn, Landon Liboiron, Allison Miller, Naomi Scott, Alana Mansour, Stephen Lang, Rod Hallett, and Christine Adams.

Terra Nova premiered last September with a pair of installments which attracted an average of a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.22 million total viewers. It was third in its timeslots but held viewers through the two hours. The third episode...

TV Review: Terra Nova 1.3, “What Remains”
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Here’s a couple fun facts for you. Back in 1966, the fourth episode of Star Trek was called “The Naked Time”. It featured the crew, who mind you, we barely knew at this point, contracting virus that caused all sorts of mental problems for them and resulted in crazy things, like Sulu running around with a sword.

Back in 1987, the third episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation was called “The Naked Now”. It featured the crew, who mind you, we barely knew at this point, contracting a virus that caused all sorts of mental problems for them and resulted in crazy things, like Tasha Yar getting it on with Data.

So, stop me when this sounds familiar. In 2011, the third episode of Terra Nova was called “What Remains”. It features the characters, who mind you, we barely know at this point, contracting a virus that...

Terra Nova First Look Video: Will Elisabeth's Ex Become a Dino's Dinner?
Stephen Lang, Shelley Conn, Jason O'Mara, Landon Liboiron, Naomi Scott, and Alana Mansour in Terra Nova (2011)
Last week on Fox’s Terra Nova (Mondays at 8/7c), viewers — and Jim Shannon, for that matter! — met Dr. Malcolm Wallace (The Tudors‘ Rod Hallett), the chief science officer who played a key role in getting Elisabeth recruited for the 10th pilgrimage, yet under the assumption she’d arrive stag, leaving her convict husband in 2149.

Well, Doc, that’s not how it turned out, but Jim nonetheless seems irked that out of all the gin joints in all the prehistoric eras, his wife finds herself reunited with an old flame from med school. But then again, in the extremely wild West of Terra Nova,...

TV Review: Terra Nova 1.2, “Instinct”
“Instinct,” the second episode of Fox’s new TV series Terra Nova, is a distinct improvement over the first episode. It’s still not great and still suffers from some serious problems, but it shows that there might be something to the premise and that possibly, just possibly, the powers that be won’t screw it up entirely.

Our story opens with a single vehicle delivering supplies to a distant point at night over an unpaved surface. If you think this seems like something of a bad idea, you’re right on the money, as the vehicle gets attacked by something airborne.

Back at the camp, the family is continuing to settle in. Elisabeth (Shelly Conn), is reunited with an old colleague/love interest (Rod Hallett), Jim (Jason O’Mara), is continuing his work for Taylor (Stephen Lang), and Josh (Landon Liboiron), is interested in buying a new guitar. He...

'Terra Nova' faces a different kind of dinosaur
"Terra Nova" has enough issues with ground-based dinosaurs, as demonstrated in last week's series premiere. So what happens when prehistoric creatures can fly?

Nothing good, it would appear.

In Monday's (Oct. 3) episode, the colony discovers that it lies in the migratory path of a massive flock of pterosaurs, smallish but nasty winged dinosaurs that don't take kindly to the new forms of life in their midst. Jim (Jason O'Mara) and Taylor (Stephen Lang) have to figure out a way to keep the humans safe before Terra Nova is overrun.

While all that's happening, Elisabeth (Shelley Conn) finds out that a former classmate of hers (Rod Hallett) is also living in Terra Nova, and may have had something to do with recruiting her for a pilgrimage.

Their reunion, which Jim doesn't seem to take much notice of at first, is the first clip below. The second has Jim and Josh (Landon Liboiron...

Terra Nova promo poster’s tagline intrigues
A new promo poster for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming time travel dinosaur TV series Terra Nova has gone online, and it’s quite interesting. The poster itself is fairly standard (people standing around in the middle of an exotic jungle, looking vaguely concerned, with what appear to be pterodactyls flying in the background), but it’s the thought-provoking tagline that’s much more intriguing.

“There is no paradise without sacrifice.”

Presumably then, the show contains some element of dystopian satire, reflecting the falsely messianic nature of many who claim to be able to bring about heaven on earth (or, in this case, heaven on ‘New Earth’, to translate the show’s Latin title). And as with many promised utopias, people are asked to buy into the fallacious idea that the ends justify the means. (As Serenity’s The Operative says, “We’re making a better world. All of them.”) Of course,...

Fox’s Terra Nova has added Tudors star Rod Hallett to the cast of colonists from the future. His role will be a series regular named Dr. Malcolm Wallace, who is “charming and confident” and becomes main character Jim Shannon’s (Jason O’Mara) rival for his wife’s (Shelley Conn) attention.

The series follows the Shannon family who travels back in time from a dying world in 2149 to prehistoric Earth to be a part of human colony called Terra Nova to rebuild civilization. Tudor’s Rod Hallett to Terra Nova
Steven Spielberg’s big budget fantasy drama series Terra Nova has found itself a new regular cast member. If you’ve ever watched Showtime’s The Tudors, then you should be familiar with Rod Hallett, who played Sir Richard Rich. Word from Deadline is that Hallett has joined the cast alongside Jason O’Mara and Shelley Conn. O’Mara and Shelley play married couple Jim and Elisabeth Shannon.

Hallett will play the charming and confident Dr. Malcolm Wallace, who becomes Jim’s nemesis as they rival for Elisabeth’s affection.

Sounds like a lot of drama for a show about dinosaurs. Okay, it’s not just about dinosaurs. Terra Nova is about humanity’s attempt to save itself by building colonies 85 million years in the past. Given the time period, dinosaurs will be heavily featured, making the production quite expensive. It has a great concept, and from the trailer it...

Rod Hallett Joins 'Terra Nova'
"Terra Nova" is picking up a big name, at least for those familiar with premium cable shows. Rod Hallett is joining the Fox series as Dr. Malcolm Wallace, a man Deadline.com says will become a nemesis of sorts to Jason O'Mara's Jim Shannon. It's not that Wallace is a bad guy. Just that both he and Shannon are after the same woman, Elisabeth, played by Shelley Conn (despite the fact that Shannon already is married to her). Hallett will take on a regular role in the series when it premieres on Mondays next fall on Fox. Hallett has quickly worked his way up the acting ladder beginning with "Home and Away" in 1998 and moving on to other shows such as "Doctors" and "EastEnders." He really broke through in 2008 for the Showtime series "The Tudors" playing Richard Rich over nearly 20 ...
