Thomas Gottschalk was born on May 18, 1950 in Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany as Thomas Johannes Gottschalk. He is an actor and writer, known for Zookeeper (2011), Wetten, dass..? (1981) and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993). He has been married to Thea Gottschalk since November 11, 1976. They have two children.

Lives in Malibu, California.
He received three Bambi Awards in the 1980s, which he gave back in 1988 after a dispute with publisher Hubert Burda. Nevertheless, he accepted a "Honorary Bambi" in 2001.
In the 1980s he suffered the particular indignity of being replaced (as the host of a video clip pop show on TV) by a chimpanzee.
