Personal Quotes (2)

[on working with Gwen Verdon] "Well, it's an inspiration in the first place, because you love working with good people. I mean, it's a drag to work with bad people. And so it makes you better. And it's a joy."
I find acting quite painful. I don't really want to strip away my innermost feelings. I don't want to be pained on stage -- I want to have a good time. But if I decide to do something, I somehow always manage to get it down -- whatever it is, to understand the inner working of it. I don't mean to sound pompous, but I can't give myself permission to do things badly.
