Jon Bon Jovi is a rare hairband frontman who has been able to extend his hit music career beyond the 80s metal rock era. He crossed over as a solo artist, but his band, Bon Jovi, remains one of the most beloved in the rock genre with hits such as “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “You Give Love a Bad Name” (which was played all over the trailer to Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s ode to stuntmen in David Leitch‘s The Fall Guy). Hulu has now released the trailer for the upcoming documentary for the story of the band told from their own personal perspectives. The Hulu doc, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story teases their famous frontman preparing audiences by saying, “I’ve got a story to tell.”

Howdy pardners! Today, we’re galloping back to 1988, when Christopher Cain and a band of rootin’ tootin’ outlaws shot up the silver screen for the American Western action film Young Guns. Presented as a retelling of the adventures of Billy the Kid during the Lincoln Couty War, Young Gun features a murderers’ row of talent, including Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Charlie Sheen, Dermot Mulroney, Casey Siemaszko, Terence Stamp, Jack Palance, and Terry O’Quinn.
Cain directs from a script by John Fusco. Young Guns revolves around a group of young gunmen, led by Billy the Kid, who become deputies to avenge the murder of the rancher who became their benefactor. However, when Billy takes their authority too far, they become the hunted.
Historian Paul Hutton once called Young Guns the most historically accurate of all films focusing on the dirty deeds of Billy the Kid as of its year of release.

Young Guns II made the west wilder, but Emilio Estevez is ready to get even wilder and wilder and wilder, saying he envisions the future of Young Guns possibly expanding into three more movies–once disputes over the rights and intellectual property are cleared.
Speaking with Uproxx, Emilio Estevez said his spurs are all shined up should everything align. “It all comes down to the legal minds that work out IP. Listen, I’m ready to go. We have a terrific draft and if we can figure out the copyrights on all of this, and if Morgan Creek can sort of untangle from some of the issues that they’ve got in terms of continuing the franchise, we’re ready to go. So it’s just a question of when.” He added, “Of course, I’m not getting any younger, so I think we’ll drop the ‘young’ from the title,...

Lou Diamond Phillips, who played real-life Wild West Regulator Jose Chavez y Chavez in both Young Guns and Young Guns II, has hinted that Young Guns 3 could still very well hop back on the saddle at some point.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Phillips said Young Guns 3 isn’t entirely off the table, although talk has certainly slowed down. “It’s in limbo right now…It was chugging along there for a minute, but then I think they got into a rights situation…It’s not dead, but it’s not happening right now.” While the movies certainly have a following, that more than 30 years has passed since Young Guns II might be an indication that fan interest may have aged out. After all, many people might only remember the second one for Jon Bon Jovi’s “Blaze of Glory”, which won a Golden Globe and could have lassoed...

Leading Hollywood screenwriters Bruce McKenna and John Fusco have been tapped by U.S-based Inspire Studios to write two Asian-themed war features. One will go into production this year, the other in 2023, Variety has learned.
McKenna, who co-wrote and co-produced the Emmy-winning mini-series “The Pacific,” and wrote part of “Band of Brothers,” is attached to the company’s debut release, Filipino-Hollywood feature “Angel Warrior” as scriptwriter. Cyrus Nowrasteh (“The Stoning of Soraya M”) is already attached a writer.
The picture is being produced by Inspire Studios’ founder and CEO Francis Lara Ho and executive produced by John Shepherd (“The Stoning of Soraya M.”), Thailand’s Buranasompod Pongrapee and Manny Pacquiao, the renowned Filipino boxing champion, politician and media personality.
Based on a real WWII story, “Angel Warrior” stars Philippines actor Bea Alonzo as Tala, a pre-war era Filipina whose near-death experience transforms her into an underground fighter, described as a “she devil.

My sincerest apologies to anyone who clicked on this headline and assumed there was going to be a new adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, "The Phantom of the Opera," but this news story is about the 1910 Gaston Leroux French novel of the same name that went on to inspire the Universal Monsters' 1925 film depiction featuring Lon Chaney, that later inspired Andrew Lloyd Webber (heretofore known as Alw). Jason Kothari, Hong Kong-born entrepreneur and film producer who was an executive producer on Vin Diesel-starring “Bloodshot,” has acquired all rights to The Silent Flute, the spiritual martial arts project co-written by martial arts icon Bruce Lee in 1970. The project is to be set up as a limited series with John Fusco (“Marco Polo”) as screenwriter and executive producer.
The story of “Silent Flute” is set in a dystopian future after mankind has suffered from pandemics, fires and civil wars, and where all weapons and combat arts are banned. It follows a raw fighter who overcomes grave obstacles and loss to reach enlightenment and become the best fighter in the world.
“The Silent Flute” film script was a five-year collaboration between Lee and his friends and martial arts students, Oscar-winning writer Stirling Silliphant and Oscar-winning actor James Coburn. It encapsulated Lee’s vision for the true essence of martial...

Photo: 'The Highwaymen'/Netflix It’s been a long time since Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow went on a killing rampage, driving all across the country, evading the law. Even after they were murdered in 1934 by the cops, they went on to live forever through pop culture. They were icons, so much so that a movie was released about them 37 years later. Bonnie and Clyde (1967), starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, is now regarded as a classic film. The movie romanticized the two outlaws, portraying them as a good-looking couple who were deeply in love, rather than monsters who went on a crime spree just for the thrill of it. 'The Highwaymen' (2019) is essentially a protest of that movie. Instead of telling the story of Bonnie and Clyde, it tells the story of Frank Hamer (Kevin Costner) and Maney Gault (Woody Harrelson), the two Texas Rangers...

Fit, suntanned, and with faint wrinkles in all the right places, at 64, Kevin Costner still looks every bit the movie star that he was through the ’80s and ’90s. It’s hard to believe that the iconic baseball film Field of Dreams turns 30 years old this year and his Best Picture winning directorial debut Dances with Wolves will hit that milestone next year.
The maverick filmmaker is part of a group of stars this year (Julia Roberts is another) that you once never would have imagined seeing in a TV series. But Costner not only took that plunge with Yellowstone, from Hell or High Water and Sicario writer Taylor Sheridan, but also tested the streaming waters with the Netflix film The Highwaymen.
Back when you were a top Warner Bros. star, could you have seen yourself starring in television? It almost seemed like an insult in those days.
That’s actually not true at all.

Kevin Costner is an actor who makes almost everything he’s in better. A reliable force in Hollywood for decades now, he brings a gravitas to his roles that elevate most projects. In the case of The Highwaymen, a new film that just hit Netflix yesterday, his performance almost is enough to recommend it on its own. The whole final product is a bit too uneven, though Costner is really strong in the central role. While the flick is making some unusual choices, Costner is just doing his thing and putting the movie on his back. It doesn’t fully make up for the shortcomings, but the film knows that Costner is the selling point and leans into that. The movie is a true life drama based on the untold story of the two legendary detectives and former Texas Rangers who were able to bring down Bonnie and Clyde. At the onset,...

Arriving more than a half-century after Arthur Penn’s violent folk-ballad “Bonnie and Clyde” tapped into the zeitgeist and caught lightning in a bottle by portraying the Depression-era gangster couple in a manner that recast them as anti-establishment rebels, “The Highwaymen” aims to set the record straight with a respectfully celebratory depiction of the two lawmen most responsible for ending their bloody crime wave. Bosley Crowther, among others, likely would have approved of such revisionism. Still, this workman-like Netflix production — set to kick off a limited theatrical run March 15 before streaming March 29 — commands attention less as historical counterpoint than as a sturdy showcase for the neatly balanced lead performances of Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson.

Bonnie & Clyde aficionados will have a field day with Netflix’s upcoming The Highwaymen, a new take on the notorious Depression-era killers that chronicles the much-examined crime spree from the perspective of the lawmen who hunted down the bank-robbing lovers.
Today Netflix released the first trailer for director John Lee Hancock’s film – which stars Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson – and the filmmaker’s approach is an interesting one: As new crime-busting techniques are changing the face of law enforcement, courtesy of the fledgling FBI and technological advances like airplane surveillance, the hunt for Bonnie & Clyde is spearheaded by a couple old-fashioned “cowboys,” in the words of Texas governor Ma Ferguson (Kathy Bates).
Actually, those cowboys are the former Texas Rangers Frank Hamer (Costner) and Maney Gault (Harrelson). Hamer was played in the 1967 classic Bonnie and Clyde by Denver Pyle with a decidedly villainous sneer.

That romanticized image of Bonnie and Clyde as folk hero outlaws and lovers is being stripped away in “The Highwaymen,” a new film starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson as the two Texas Rangers who made it their mission to hunt the famous outlaws.
Because while there’s some humor in this first trailer for the film, Bonnie and Clyde come across as ruthless killers, the type who turn you over on your back to look you in the eyes before they shoot you. But still the legend of their romance and their bloody end persists.
“We’re the bad guys,” Costner says in the trailer, channeling an Eliot Ness in “The Untouchables” vibe. His character, Frank Hamer, was portrayed by Denver Pyle in the classic 1967 film “Bonnie and Clyde” starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway.

Woody Harrelson and Kevin Costner are teaming up with Netflix and director John Lee Hancock for the upcoming period crime film “The Highwaymen.” The drama, written by “Marco Polo” creator John Fusco, flips the script on the Bonnie and Clyde narrative by telling the story from the perspective of the two Texas Rangers who were tasked with hunting the infamous robbers down and bringing them to justice.
The official synopsis from Netflix reads: “‘The Highwaymen’ follows the untold true story of the legendary detectives who brought down Bonnie and Clyde. When the full force of the FBI and the latest forensic technology aren’t enough to capture the nation’s most notorious criminals, two former Texas Rangers (Costner and Harrelson) must rely on their gut instincts and old school skills to get the job done.”

Chicago – To create spirituality from tragedy is like shooting the proverbial fish – a prominent symbol for Christianity – in a barrel. “The Shack” is based on a popular novel, and doesn’t try to do anything different or cinematic with a man encountering the Holy Trinity after a horrific incident.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
This film is impossible to review from a basis of the spirit, because believers and lovers of the novel won’t care what a snotty critic has to say regarding the weird-but-soft encounter of a desperate man with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. But I can judge it as a film, and it really needed more character development. The wife of the emotionally hurt man is nearly invisible, the religiosity of the family is never really explored and the next door neighbor, a presumably good Christian man, seems oddly clingy to his sad buddy. The two hour and fifteen...

Here's a surprising one: Netflix has pulled the plug on Marco Polo, opting to end the historical drama series after two seasons rather than renewing it for a third run.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, as well as revealing that Netflix and the show's producers The Weinstein Company had until the end of the year to make a decision, before their options on the cast's contracts would expire. THR also cites a staggering figure from an unnamed source: Marco Polo purportedly lost Netflix $200 million.
Marco Polo - which starred Lorenzo Richelmy and Benedict Wong - began in 2014 and consisted of 20 full episodes and one half-length Christmas special.

Four episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
It’s been 18 months since Marco Polo debuted its first season on Netflix, and even though it hit with a bit of a resounding dud, the show had its apologists, and I was one of them. A lot didn’t work (it’s hard to overstate that), including thin characterization, thinner world building and clunky, utterly un-bingeable plotting. But the show had style, with neat action set pieces and an unpretentious tackling of the medieval-sex-and-gore genre – which feels all but necessitated by every network thanks to Game of Thrones – resulting in a show that was palatable for me, despite being somewhat of an overall mess.
Cut to today, and it’s been a year-and-a-half since I was entrenched in all of the political turmoil between the the great Kublai Khan (Benedict Wong, still fascinating when the script lets him be) and his nemesis chancellor Jia Sidao,...

With hits like Wet Hot American Summer and Arrested Development, Netflix has been riding high on nostalgic rebooting, but Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword Of Destiny shows a more vulnerable side to the streaming service’s original content (we’ll save Fuller House for the TV section). What once was a whimsical callback to acrobatic martial arts has become a repetitive, stone-etched journey that’s heavy on outdated pageantry, and light on mystical amazement.
Still based on Du Lu Wang’s source novelization (in theory), Woo-Ping Yuen steps in to direct a screenplay by John Fusco, but with Ang Lee nowhere to be found, ancient folklore becomes weightless, cut-and-dry whispers. In regards to this Netflix original, setting the bar impossibly low barely helped tolerate the arduous two-part viewing experience of this martial-arts mess. Sullying Ang Lee’s beautiful vision of the vintage source material, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny is neither a coherent tale nor a particularly exciting one. Yuen Woo-Ping (True Legend and other better wuxia films) directs and the action sequences are the only real stand-out in a sea of mediocrity. From the placid acting, to the hokey set design, basically nothing works. The screenplay by John Fusco (The Forbidden Kingdom) is the biggest culprit; a turgid nonsensical slapdash offense of contemporary narrative that is not even ‘so bad its good’. Shockingly, the film was made in English; turn the subtitles on...

The biggest problem with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, is that it is the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. That first film, directed by Ang Lee, remains a juggernaut of international cinema, a brilliantly-made and brilliantly-released film that grossed a small fortune and took home a few Oscars to boot. It announced that a wuxia action movie could be a four-quadrant hit in America, leading to an upswing of impressive Asian action films in the west, including Hero and House of Flying Daggers.
Sword of Destiny, currently available on Netflix, emerges 15 years later diminished and woefully inessential. As a film on its own, it’s perfectly diverting entertainment. Beautiful vistas (the film was shot in New Zealand by the uber-talented Newton Thomas Sigel) and impressively-choreographed fight scenes drive a familiar plot.
