Passionate about filmmaking from an early age, Richard attended New
York University's film school. In the early 80's he landed his first
feature position on the film, Harry and Son, Directed by and starring
Paul Newman, where Richard assisted this legendary great in the editing
room, as well as the kitchen, where he had the distinction of preparing
Paul's soon to be famous popcorn. Through his association with Newman,
Richard met and worked with the legendary film editor, Dede Allen.
For the next 22 years, Richard worked alongside an amazing array of Academy Award winning editors including Stephen Rotter (The Right Stuff), Alan Heim (All That Jazz), Bill Reynolds (The Sting, Sound Of Music) and Dan Hanley and Mike Hill (Apollo 13, Cinderella Man). Beginning in 1992, Richard joined Ron Howard's editorial team where he worked on all of Howard's films for the next decade, including the groundbreaking Apollo 13. This experience proved to be pivotal as it triggered his interest in visual effects.
Richard then went on to work on several major visual effects pictures, including Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow, Brian DePalma's Mission To Mars, and Ron Howard's A Beautiful Mind, (Academy Award - Best Film). As a result of these experiences, Richard embarked on an ambitious project to launch a visual effects company, Brainstorm Digital, in 2005.
Richard and Brainstorm Digital have won 2 Emmy Awards for outstanding work on HBO's Boardwalk Empire in addition to being the recipients of numerous Visual Effects Society awards. Richard & Brainstorm were also nominated by the VES for outstanding visual effects work on the History Channel's hit series, The Men Who Built America, for which he also served as a producer.
Richard considers his most recent career highlights to be his work for director Martin Scorsese on the Pilot for Boardwalk Empire and The Wolf Of Wall Street.
