The final season of “Ozark” will premiere Jan. 21, 2022 on Netflix with its first seven episodes. The second seven-episode half of the season will then follow later in the year.
“Ozark” follows the Byrde family’s criminal enterprise in the Ozarks. As patriarch Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) put it in the series premiere back in 2017, “Money is, at its essence, that measure of a man’s choices.” That quote is laid over the beginning of a teaser for the final season, implying it will come back to haunt him in the show’s final run.
The final season stars Bateman, Laura Linney, Julia Garner, Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Charlie Tahan, Jessica Frances Dukes, Lisa Emery, Felix Solis, Damian Young, Alfonso Herrera, Adam Rothenberg, John Bedford Lloyd, Joseph Sikora, Bruno Bichir, Cc Castillo, Katrina Lenk, Bruce Davison, Ali Stroker and Veronica Falcón. The South by Southwest Film Festival has rolled out its full programming line up, with high-profile new documentaries bolstering previously announced features.
For many in Hollywood, the last-minute cancellation of the Austin-based 2020 SXSW conference was a reality check about the severity of the coronavirus pandemic. Global lockdowns followed, and a year later, the film portion of the cultural event is soldiering on.
“We feel privileged to have been able to pivot to SXSW Online and present a fantastic treasure trove of programming, including a pared down and wonderful selection of films that we know will delight, entertain and move our attendees,” said Janet Pierson, SXSW’s director of film.
Among the selection is “Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free,” featuring a 16mm footage archive of the late singer at work on his 1994 album “Wildflowers,” largely considered his best. The film is directed by Mary Wharton, and leans into SXSW’s reputation for top-tier music programming.

Jeff Lerner, the executive who shaped Sony Pictures Television’s scripted remakes business, bringing “Everybody Loves Raymond” to Russia and “Mad About You” to Argentina, is leaving the studio, Variety has learned.
The outgoing executive is well-regarded in international drama circles, notably in the scripted formats business. In Sony’s case, that effort has led to foreign broadcasters making local versions of “Breaking Bad” and a host of other U.S. drama and sitcoms.
“Everybody Loves Raymond” got the remake treatment in India, Israel, the Middle East, and Poland, among other territories, during Lerner’s tenure. He was also instrumental in launching Spt’s Russian business and its Moscow office, landing a host of Russian deals and often bringing in U.S. writing talent to help shape the local series.
Russia’s version of “Everybody Loves Raymond,” titled “The Voronins,” has run to more than 400 episodes and 20 seasons. Other U.

SPTI's Russia revolution
MOSCOW -- A pioneering television production venture in Russia by Sony Pictures Television International has resulted in more than 120 hours of drama made locally during the past nine months and will see a Russian version of "The Nanny" airing on Moscow-based entertainment network CTC starting next month. SPTI's milestone deal in Russia with local production partner A.Media Group and broadcaster CTC marks the first time that primetime programming for Russian audiences is being produced in partnership with an American studio. "This is a great example of how Russian and U.S. talent is working together: The majority of story lines and arcs are American; characterization and dialogues are Russian," SPTI vp international production Brendan Fitzgerald said. "We have highly talented teams working together, and the benefit is beginning to show."...
