Kevin Tierney, Canadian Film and TV Producer, Dies at 67
Veteran Canadian film producer Kevin Tierney died Saturday after a long battle with cancer. He was 67.

"My dad, the amazing Kevin Tierney, left us this morning at 4:15. My sister, mom and I were all there," Canadian actor and film director Jacob Tierney said on his Instagram account following his father's death in Montreal.

Tierney produced Bon Cop, Bad Cop, the top-grossing Canadian theatrical release of all time domestically. The 2006 bilingual English- and French-language buddy movie starring Patrick Huard and Colm Feore received the Golden Reel Award at the Genie Awards that same year.

Anon movie review: brings a whole new meaning to ‘private eye’

MaryAnn’s quick take… This sci-fi riff on the end of privacy is not as provocative as it would like to be, and its mystery completely falls apart in the end. But its visual worldbuilding is fascinating. I’m “biast” (pro): love Clive Owen; love some of what Andrew Niccol has done; big science fiction fan

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto) women’s participation in this film

(learn more about this)

In the not-too-distant future, privacy has been eliminated via neural implants that absolutely everyone has. Your “Mind’s Eye” records everything you see and hear and stores it in “the Ether” for you to revisit later or share with friends; the system also offers a kind of mega-augmented reality that layers pop-up IDs over everyone you see, as well as, naturally, advertising on many surfaces and shopping links

‘Anon’ Review

Stars: Clive Owen, Amanda Seyfried, Colm Feore, Sonya Walger, Mark O’Brien, Joe Pingue, Iddo Goldberg, Sebastian Pigott, Rachel Roberts, Ethan Tavares, Marco Grazzini, Conrad Coates | Written and Directed by Andrew Niccol

Writer-director Andrew Niccol has made a career out of depicting tech-enhanced dystopias, whether it’s his 1997 debut Gattaca (genetic engineering), his script for The Truman Show (reality TV taken to extremes) or 2002′s S1m0ne, which now seems weirdly prescient in its anxiety over digitally augmented reality. His latest film, sci-fi murder mystery Anon, finds Niccol on familiar ground when it comes to tech-based paranoia, but the plot falls short in comparison to the imaginative world building.

Set in an all-too-believable future, the film stars Clive Owen as world-weary detective Sal Frieland, whose job has been rendered ridiculously easy because all crimes are almost instantly solvable, thanks to an implant called the eye that uploads every citizen

New clip from Andrew Niccol’s ‘Anon’

From the pioneering mind of Academy Award nominated filmmaker Andrew Niccol comes Anon; his latest meditation on the fraught relationship between technology and humanity starring Clive Owen and Amanda Seyfried

In a modern world where advanced biosyn implants mean everyone is subjected to a relentless visual stream of information they call the ‘Mind’s Eye’, privacy and anonymity as we know it has vanished. With everyone’s personal information on public display and each person’s life recorded down to the millisecond, personal information is downloaded to a vast grid called ‘The Ether’, a database which law enforcement can access and use to prosecute criminals.

In Anon, Sal Frieland (Clive Owen), is faced with a series of shocking murders which appear to be linked. Unable to identify the killers it soon becomes apparent that what they have in common signals a major breakdown in the system on which society has come to rely.

One More Time: Netflix's Us Trailer for Augmented Reality Film 'Anon'

"Who can hack a human being?" One more trailer for the indie sci-fi film Anon, written and directed by sci-fi storyteller Andrew Niccol. We posted another trailer earlier this year, and a new international trailer this week already. This new Us trailer from Netflix presents the story entirely differently - about hackers and hacking our augmented reality, and how one of them is getting away with murders by erasing memories. Clive Owen plays a cop investigating a series of unsolved murders, who meets a mysterious hacker woman known as "The Girl" - Amanda Seyfried. This also stars Colm Feore, Sonya Walger, Mark O'Brien, Joe Pingue, Iddo Goldberg, and Sebastian Pigott. This actually looks good, I'm planning to watch once it's available - starting in early May on Netflix. Here's the official Us trailer (+ new Us poster) for Andrew Niccol's Anon, direct from Netflix's YouTube: You can still watch the

New International Trailer for Andrew Niccol's 'Anon' with Clive Owen

"We can't control what we can't see." Another new international trailer has debuted for the indie sci-fi film Anon, written and directed by sci-fi storyteller Andrew Niccol. We posted another trailer earlier this year, and it still looks very intriguing. The film is about a near-future where there is no privacy or anonymity, where even private memories are recorded in an effort to cut down on crime. Clive Owen plays a cop investigating a series of unsolved murders, who meets a hacker woman known as "The Girl", played by Amanda Seyfried. She has no identity, no history and no record. Also starring Colm Feore, Sonya Walger, Mark O'Brien, Joe Pingue, Iddo Goldberg, and Sebastian Pigott. I'm usually interested in whatever Niccol makes, especially if it's full-on sci-fi, and I'm fascinated by this. That digitized filmmaking style with augmented reality Pov is crazy cool. Check this out. Here's a second international

First Trailer for Superpower Sci-Fi 'Higher Power' Starring Ron Eldard

"Well, what if I told you I had a plan? It's the only thing powerful enough to stop what's coming." Magnet Releasing has debuted the first official trailer for a very weird, global-scale indie sci-fi film of sorts titled Higher Power, about a gamma ray that gives a human on Earth some crazy impressive superpowers. This is very hard to describe, you just have to dive into the footage. The official description is fairly vague as well, only explaining that "when the Universe decides what it wants, it's pointless to resist." You'll get a sense of this in the trailer. Starring Ron Eldard as Joe Steadman, who reminds me a lot of a young Jeff Daniels in Dumb & Dumber. The cast includes Jade Tailor, Austin Stowell, Jordan Hinson, Colm Feore, Tom Wright, and Laura Margolis. This actually looks pretty cool, and a bit weird. It's worth a watch, for sure.

Anon Trailer: Andrew Niccol Creates a World Without Privacy in Latest Thriller

The first trailer for Andrew Niccol's tech thriller Anon has dropped and, as always with Niccol, he's got me intrigued. While his films (Gattaca, Lord of War) don't always turn out to be winners, he continues to explore intriguing sci-fi ideas (ahem, In Time). Anon is set in a Soviet-style near-future where the government is trying to fight crime by eliminating privacy, thus creating total surveillance and de facto self-censorship. A police officer named Sal Frieland (Clive Owen) is doing his best to fight crime in his city but things take a huge turn when he meets a hacker known as "The Girl" (Amanda Seyfried). Anon was also written by Niccol and co-stars Colm Feore, Sonya Walger, Mark O'Brien, Joe Pingue, Iddo Goldberg, and Sebastian...

First Full Trailer for Andrew Niccol's Sci-Fi Technology Thriller 'Anon'

"Anonymity is the enemy." A trailer has launched from Greece for the new sci-fi film Anon, the latest from one of my favorite sci-fi filmmakers - Andrew Niccol, who last made The Host and Good Kill. What he learns from her changes everything. Also starring Colm Feore, Sonya Walger, Mark O'Brien, Joe Pingue, Iddo Goldberg, and Sebastian Pigott. Why does Seyfried look so like anyone but herself? This seems to be a slick sci-fi neo-noir. I'm always curious about Niccol's films, will be watching it. Here's the first international trailer for Andrew Niccol's Anon,
