Unfolding through the animals’ perspective, the survival tale revolves around Harry, a recently orphaned family dog who finds himself home alone at the onset of winter in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, and forms an unlikely bond with a young wolf who is the last remaining member of a pack decimated by hunters. After initial fear and conflict, the lovable dog and wild wolf start to show each other their worlds, learn from each other and ultimately realize that they must cooperate in order to survive.
“Howl” was written by Christopher Monger (“The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill but Came Down a Mountain”) and will be directed by Elias E.

As sea levels gradually rise due to climate change, an entire country faces evacuation in director Thomas Vinterberg’s new miniseries Families Like Ours. Premiering to acclaim at the prestigious Venice and Toronto film festivals, the show paints a vivid portrait of what forced mass migration might look like in the not-so-distant future. With his signature blend of intimate characterization and broader themes, Vinterberg draws us deeply into the intersecting stories of a few ordinary Danish families uprooted by the impending closure of their homeland.

Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) was put through it in the Chicago P.D. Season 11 finale—which also included a return from his dead friend, Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas), who died after being stabbed in the Season 5 finale. Voight saw Olinsky while bleeding out while being held by a serial killer. “What’d you get into this time, Hank?” Olinsky asked. “Is this what it felt like?” Voight wondered. “I’m okay to go out like this.” But Olinsky told him, “There’s more. You don’t get to die here.” And he didn’t. Lori Allen / NBC “Elias is very special to me, and the opportunity for us to have a moment together—I think for him as well—was, I don’t know what the adjective is, but it’s beyond extremely beautiful and very fulfilling and emotional,” Beghe tells TV Insider of what had been his idea.

Sylvester Stallone has maintained his status as an icon for decades now. Starting off in the Rocky franchise and moving onto more and more well-recognized roles, he has become a fundamental part of the action chapter of Hollywood. While many stars burn up when faced with the challenges of time, he has managed to maintain his relevance through several kinds of roles.

A test-screening for Black Panther director Ryan Cooger's Depression-era vampire movie, Sinners, reportedly took place last week, and World of Reel has now shared a report on the consensus from those in attendance.
Though major plot details are not divulged, there will be some spoilers from this point on.
First off, the response to the movie seems to be somewhat tepid. While Michael B. Jordan's performance in a dual role came in for a lot of praise, the majority of people who got to see the film felt that it was merely "fine" or "decent." It also seems that initial reports that Jordan is playing vampire brothers were not accurate.
One of the brothers embarks on a relationship with Hailee Steinfeld's character, who sounds like she may ultimately turn out to be a villain.

The opening sequences of Brazilian director Karim Aïnouz’s films are, for the most part, composed of immaculate static shots of nature—a detailed look into the place that his characters inhabit—as if to imply some sort of geographic determinism. In the particular case of “Motel Destino” (2024), the bordering red cliffs could signify the hardened, rough edges of its protagonist; while the occasional pops of lush green vegetation found in this arid land may represent the resilience and mutability of his character; and the brightly turquoise waters that ever so gently bathe the shore may very well comment on his pathological need for affection as he was abandoned by his father, abused by his step-father and neglected by his mother.

A good tasty noir, like “Love Lies Bleeding,” always feels contemporary, even if set in the past; that’s because it should feel as urgent as the love-and-death stakes it’s about. “Killer Heat,” on the other hand, while not quite so old-fashioned that it creaks, definitely plays like a mirage of detective noirs you’ve seen before. To start with: Could there be a worse title? It makes the movie sound like some straight-to-tape potboiler from the ’80s starring Jim Belushi and Daphne Zuniga. “Killer Heat” opens with the voice of its star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who has a way of sounding like Keanu Reeves’ brainier brother), delivering one of those logy “hardboiled” philosophical nuggets to the audience (“The Icarus myth was set on the island of Crete. And apparently no one there had learned much from his story…”).
But just as you’re ready to nod out, Gordon-Levitt, as...

Just beyond the shores of Crete, a deceptive puzzle awaits unraveling. Director Philippe Lacôte’s sun-drenched noir Killer Heat seems a cheery summer prospect – mystery abounds on an archetypally photogenic Greek isle. But as American expat private eye Nick Bali assumes the case, darkness looms under the warm facade.
Familiar elements dress the setup: A supposed climbing accident proves more suspicious to bereaved sister-in-law Penelope. She privately recruits Nick to peer beneath the surface, suspecting her brother-in-law’s death conceals a sinister hand. Nick delves into the web of a local shipping tycoon’s sprawling dynasty, where fortunes, jealousies, and dangerous undercurrents run deep. All signs point to the tropical paradise hiding more than meets the eye.
Yet for all the genre trimmings, something feels lacking in Killer Heat’s bones. Characters remain strangers, relationships skin-deep. Plot progresses methodically, but scant intrigue arises – a predictable arc unravels foreseeable answers. Solid performances flounder without fertile soil.

Plot: A thrilling, contemporary mystery in classic noir style, Killer Heat follows private eye Nick Bali, an American expat in Greece, hired to investigate the supposed accidental death of young shipping magnate Leo Vardakis on the island of Crete. The victim’s sister-in-law doesn’t believe the official police report. But what exactly happened to Leo, and why? Despite the sun-drenched beauty of its exotic Mediterranean locale, Nick finds darkness at every turn: where the rich and powerful Vardakis family rule like gods, where jealousies run deep, and anyone could be a suspect.
Review: The hard-boiled detective movie has been a trope since the early days of cinema. The term “noir” has taken on a meaning in modern film that has turned into a cliche itself. If you picture the genre in your mind, you likely conjure up fedoras, femme fatales, cigarettes, cocktails, dastardly villains, and lots of gunfire. The...

Killer Heat’s ending was all about finding why [Spoiler Alert] one of the twin brothers killed the other one. What exactly was the motive, and who convinced them to take such a step? Nick Bali (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a private detective who often talked to himself like Watchmen‘s Rorschach, always knew that Elias (Richard Madden) had something to do with the accidental death of his twin brother, Leonidas (or Leo). It was the reason why he started investigating the Vardakis family as soon as he arrived at the isolated island of Crete. Elias’ wife, Penelope (Shailene Woodley), who met Leo and Elias during their time at Oxford University, knew the secret behind the mysterious murder, but she wanted someone else to expose Leo so that he couldn’t pin the entire blame on her. Yes, it wasn’t Leo who died that day; instead, it was his brother, Elias, the mom’s favorite.

I love movies like Killer Heat, not just the movie Killer Heat. This type of knockoff fiction can be recycled and found in any big-box department store, where people gobble it up for summer reading. The film offers virtually nothing new on the subject.
Even from the clothes, setting, and moments of shadowy cinematography. So, studios do what they do: cast attractive leads and saturate the story with a faux-noir style, which many will mistake for originality.
The film is standard by the numbers, dusting off the playbook and following the step-by-step mystery genre production. I almost think the talented cast signed on for the Greek island location entirely.

While remakes are a longstanding tradition in the horror genre, 2003’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ushered in a decade-dominating trend of reinventing classic genre properties for the new millennium. Hoping to replicate the success of Texas Chainsaw, production company Platinum Dunes re-teamed with director Marcus Nispel for a contemporary take on Friday the 13th in 2009.
Like many of the best remakes, Friday the 13th doesn’t recycle the same plot and characters from the 1980 film. The script, penned by Freddy vs. Jason scribes Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, strikes a careful balance between fresh and familiar by blending novel concepts with interpolated elements from the first four Friday the 13th films — from Mrs. Voorhees to sackhead Jason to the iconic hockey mask.
Following an extended prologue — which streamlines the summer camp slasher formula into 20 breakneck minutes before the title card drops — ruggedly handsome Clay Miller is introduced. While searching the...

Filmmaker Angela Schanelec weaves intricate, cerebral tales that stay with you long after. While her films can seem enigmatic, viewers who dive in are rewarded with glimpses of rarely seen creative visions.
Schanelec has quietly built an impressive body of work over decades, gaining acclaim in art house circles. Her films play like visual poems, prioritizing impression and abstraction over exposition. Music, her latest, premiered at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival.
Music reimagines the classic Greek myth of Oedipus Rex, though don’t expect a literal retelling. Schanelec transports audiences to an atmospheric realm where nothing is quite as it seems. Scenes unfold in a hypnotic style, revealing tantalizing clues about the characters while leaving much open to interpretation.
Who are these striking figures we meet, and what secrets might their fates portend? Schanelec trusts viewers to ponder these mysteries without unambiguous answers. Her gift is making the familiar feel mystifying once more.

If there’s one thing you can count on in the video game industry, it’s that Hideo Kojima is going to take a picture with an actor you recognize, whether you like it or not.
The most recent addition to Kojima’s never-ending collection is Nicolas Cage, who was involved in the recent movie, Longlegs. A picture of the enigmatic actor standing next to the famous creative director dropped on X/Twitter, and the internet can’t handle it.
Nicolas Cage and Kojima: Could There Be More to It?
Kojima is no stranger to teaming up with Hollywood’s finest. His previous work, Death Stranding, featured an ensemble cast including Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Léa Seydoux, who were added to the game.
Most recently, he was visited by Nicolas Cage at the building for his studio, Kojima Productions, in a spot you’ll recognize from Kojima’s pictures with other celebrities.

The Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 finale answered some crucial questions while also giving us a stunning ending that is sure to keep fans talking. Plus, we finally met the final member of Gold Star. Who was he and how was he connected to everything happening? Let's dive into a recap of "Save the Children."
After the explosion occurred in the previous episode, Garcia and Rebecca were left trying to figure out if the team survived. Luckily, they did survive the explosion, but Emily was missing. Thanks to security footage Garcia was able to get into, they saw Jade working with another person.
Knowing Dana had been killed, the team figured this must be the elusive Pete B. With Elias’s voice in Dave’s head, he determined who Pete is Doug Bailey’s younger brother. Doug had attempted to help his brother overcome the conspiracy theories he had been bought into but nothing ever worked.

The career trajectory of character actor extraordinaire Willem Dafoe is one of the more unusual among contemporary Hollywood stars. From his early days of being routinely cast as a heavy, Dafoe worked his way through the system thanks to the sheer force of his talent, finally being cast as leads, often portraying in detail such real-life figures as actor Max Schreck, artist Vincent Van Gogh and even Jesus Christ.
Among Dafoe’s early bad guy roles were as biker gang leaders in both Kathryn Bigelow‘s “The Loveless” and Walter Hill‘s “Streets of Fire.” But his performance as kindly Sgt. Elias in Oliver Stone‘s “Platoon” changed all that, resulting in his first Academy Award nomination. Three more Oscar nominations followed, and Dafoe has also earned three Golden Globe nominations and four noms from the Screen Actors Guild.

For an acting career that started with 1985’s Witness, the 65-year-old Viggo Mortensen has truly come a long way. With a series of star-studded roles trailing right behind him to remind everyone of the legacy he has led so far like as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings saga, he is easily one of the most commended and respected celebrities in the entertainment industry.

Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1, the 2024 epic Western film, is only the first part of a film series that was initially planned to have four interlinked chapters. Set in the grand frontiers of the American West before, during, and after the Civil War, the film tells the story of different characters who find themselves headed towards the peaceful and prosperous lands of the Frontier. With an unnecessarily long runtime of three hours, the first part of the planned series is an absolute dud, as it fails to present any interesting plotline or characters. Being an extensive trailer for its sequel film, Horizon Chapter 1 stumbles to deliver an exciting Western world that would bring back audiences to the said sequel.
Spoiler Alert
What is the film about?

It was only after fans rewatched the entirety of "The Boys" in preparation for the season 4 premiere that many realized that the actor who played Ryan Butcher in the season 1 finale had been recast with the series' current actor, Cameron Crovetti. The introduction of the character was a glorified cameo, but when Crovetti took over in season 2, Ryan became what showrunner Eric Kripke would later call, "the key to season 4." With such an expanded role, the creative team wanted a more experienced child actor, and they found that with Crovetti. Fans became so familiar with the performance that they completely forgot the role wasn't originally his, which is understandable considering there was over a year of time separated from season 1 and season 2. Having two actors play one character isn't unheard of and recasting decisions happen all the time, but there's a third actor who has portrayed Ryan Butcher, and this...

The Boys: So much blood, so little continuity? Think again! We’ve got exploding heads, laser eyes, and… wait, did Ryan the super-powered kid just switch actors? Shhh, don’t tell Homelander, but The Boys pulled off a sneaky recast, and nobody blinked.
Cameron Crovetti as Ryan Butcher in The Boys | Kripke Enterprises
With showrunner Eric Kripke breaking it down, buckle up for a season where the only drama is on screen, not behind the scenes. But hey, with all the gore and super-powered mayhem, who’s keeping track, right?

Recasting happens all the time. Tragedy sometimes strikes, like in the case of Professor Albus Dumbledore in the "Harry Potter" series, where Michael Gambon assumed the role following the passing of the original performer, Richard Harris. Oftentimes, recasting is a result of scheduling conflicts, like when "May December" breakout star Charles Melton took over the role of Reggie Mantle on "Riverdale" due to original actor Ross Butler's scheduling conflicts with "13 Reasons Why." And sometimes a character is recast simply because they weren't right for the role, as was famously the case with Eric Stoltz, who was replaced by Michael J. Fox after six weeks of shooting "Back to the Future."
In all of these instances, fans were well aware of the recastings as they happened, but once a person has been playing a role long enough, audiences sometimes forget they were ever recast in the first place. This...

What the hell was that?
If you were looking for a vague stroll under a cloudy sky with your Criminal Minds, you were in luck during "Conspiracy vs. Theory."
The episode meandered and accomplished almost nothing.
What it did accomplish came out of left field, but we'll discuss that in more detail below.
The best part of it all was Voit joining the Bau as a guest star. Who would have guessed I'd say that out loud after how I ridiculed him beginning with the Criminal Minds Evolution Season 2 premiere?

Hallmark Channel When Calls The Heart spoilers and updates ask the question, is Angela Canfield (Vienna Leacock) leaving the show? She is the daughter of Joseph and Minnie Canfield and the older sister of Cooper Canfield (Elias Leacock).
When Calls The Heart Spoilers – A Few Characters’ Fates In The Balance
Angela, who is blind, was introduced in Season 8, when her family moved to Hope Valley when her father took the pastorate of the Hope Valley Church.
The finale of season 11 seems to set up a potential exit for the character, although nothing is written in stone.
While talking with her friends, the young girl mentioned the prospect of attending a college in Hamilton that specializes in training teachers for the visually impaired.
Angela was excited about the school, but her mom was concerned about how far away Hamilton is from Hope Valley; she assured her mom that the school is “just an idea,...

Quite unlike what the title might suggest, Thea Hvistendahl’s Norwegian zombie film isn’t as interested in the undead as it is in the living. Grief doesn’t burden the dead. And since Handling the Undead, an adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s novel of the same name, is essentially a stoic observer of what people do when they lose someone close to them, grief is all there is to see. Hvistendahl’s film demands introspection as it puts you at the center of a three-way junction, with each direction leading to a singular experience—the dead coming back to those who love them dearly.
Spoiler Alert
What Is The Film About?
Considering the scarcity of spoken words in Handling the Undead, intruding into the headspaces of the people the film follows is your only shot at understanding it. The three families dealing with a wretched loss are connected by nothing else.

From comments on social media, it seems as though people are enjoying this season so far.
Unfortunately, I'm finding many faults and can't help but wonder if the magic has already run out on Criminal Minds: Evolution or if it's the state of programming in general that's causing my malaise.
I don't quite understand a few things about Criminal Minds Season 17 Episode 4, so maybe you can help me figure them out.
Will All the Cases of the Week Lead Back to Gold Star?
In a world where, suddenly, every open case seems to have ties to Gold Star, the girl murdering law enforcement didn't seem like it would pass that test.
But, it was possibly the most significant clue to date, revealing that the Bau team had been profiling one man, and that man just so happened to be helping pull off these murders.

At first glance, Young Hearts seems to resemble Lukas Dhont’s Close — in its rural Belgian town setting and its focus on two early teenage boys navigating the tricky boundaries between friendship and romance. But closer acquaintance reveals Flemish filmmaker Anthony Schatteman’s first feature to be something more in line with Heartstopper or Love, Simon, entirely without the tragic dimensions of Dhont’s Oscar-nominated drama. Impressive newcomer Lou Goossens plays a 14-year-old boy thrown into emotional confusion by his attraction to a new neighbor in a film whose queer positivity should be a balm to LGBTQ kids wrestling with their sexuality as well as to parents struggling with acceptance.
That doesn’t mean the usual conflicts of brooding isolation, initial rejection and fear of stigmatization are absent. But one of the chief selling points of Young Hearts is its sincere depiction of coming out in a supportive environment, unfolding...

Film London Predicts $12B Film & TV Boost To UK Capital
Film London has suggested that the film, TV and animation industries could generate as much as $12B (£9.5B) in investment in the UK capital in the next five years to 2028-29, as a result of its support activities. The body released the figures as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations on Wednesday. It said this investment would in turn add another $1.2B (£1B) in Gva for London over the same five-year period. The future impact figures were modelled on 2023/24 data. Film London noted that the forecast builds on figures for the previous five years, during which it said $5B (£4B) was invested in London as a result of its activities. These include the Artists Moving Image Network, equal access schemes such as Breaking the Glass Ceiling as well as the Production Finance Market (Pfm), during the BFI London Film Festival,...

Tegna, one of the top local TV station owners in the U.S., says former NBCUniversal and Google exec Michael Steib will succeed David Lougee as CEO in August.
After leaving his post as president, CEO and director, Lougee will become a senior advisor to the company.
Lougee, 65, became CEO in 2017 after a 10-year run as president of Tegna Media. Tegna was created in 2015 when Gannett separated its print and broadcast assets into separate companies. (The name Tegna is a partial anagram of “Gannett.”)
Last year, the proposed acquisition of Tegna by private equity firm Standard General was abandoned after regulators raised concerns about the potentially negative impact of the $8.6 billion deal on the workforce and consumers. The succession process has been under way since around the time the deal was terminated.
Steib is currently CEO of Artsy, an online platform for discovering and collecting art. He was previously CEO of Xo Group,...

In the 80s and 90s, an interesting cycle of inspirational teacher movies was being made. You know the type – the film where a big star plays a down-and-out teacher who gets posted in some crime-ridden school, and they manage to turn things around? Often, they were based on true stories, like Stand and Deliver, Dangerous Minds, Lean on Me and a few others. Then, there were the more fanciful, tough-guy teacher movies, like Nick Nolte’s Teachers and James Belushi’s underrated The Principal.
But of all these movies, the most badass, by far, is a little movie called The Substitute starring Tom Berenger.
In it, he plays a mercenary who goes undercover as a substitute teacher to avenge a brutal assault on his girlfriend, a crusading teacher played by Heat’s Diane Venora. While initially only planning on staying long enough to find the teens responsible, he finds himself...

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 debuts on Paramount+ on June 6th.
After spending 15 seasons airing weekly on CBS, Criminal Minds restructured its series by debuting Criminal Minds: Evolution. The ten-episode season debuted on Paramount+ with rave reviews, earning a second season. Executive Producer Erica Messer’s strategy to bring a more linear story to the series proved fruitful for the success of season one.
After a brief two-year hiatus, the new reincarnation of Criminal Minds with Evolution had me excited to see what they could do with the series being on a streamer vs. cable TV. I found myself attached to the series like I hadn’t in a long time, as season 1 had you on the edge of your seat with Elias Voit and the mystery of his character running rampant. Season 2 picks up right where they left off with two incredible episodes that see Zach Gilford continue to deliver a knockout performance as Voit.

Criminal Minds entertained fans for 15 long seasons, starting on CBS in 2005 and originally ending in February 2020 before finally returning to Paramount+ in 2022 with Criminal Minds: Evolution.
During that time, the show managed to become a full-fledged franchise, spawning several spin-offs, including a Korean remake. The series featured many intricate cases, but the main highlight of the project was the characters.

Criminal Minds reveals a slightly different direction in the season premiere episodes when the team goes against everything they believe in working with Elias Voit because of his Gold Star knowledge.
Hopefully, you've been following along with Everything We Know leading into the premiere. Now, we've got thoughts about that and the Gold Star reveal in general, as well as the potential that arises when you begin to talk about social contagions again.
Maybe you'll agree or disagree, but we're about to see if we're on the same page!
Gold Star is... a Government-Trained Serial Killer???
Ok. I was incredibly unimpressed that Gold Star was the code name of an unsub. Boring.
I was hoping for a big government conspiracy and coverup, with lots of promises, to confuse and conflict the Bau team members about their direction.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movie series is expanding with another installment after the grand success of the third movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, it was the ultimate treat for Marvel fans. Now, the upcoming Spider-Man movie, as speculation dictates, is going to be more grounded with a bit of multiversal touch.
Tom Holland stars as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Columbia Pictures’ Spider-man: No Way Home.
If not multiversal, Spider-Man might go to its classic root, to its classic villains— Norman and Harry Osborn. New speculation recently suggested that fans could see Dune star Timothée Chalamet making his Spider-Man debut playing a villainous Harry Osborn and in this case, Kevin Feige might hire one MCU star again, this time for the role of Norman Osborn.
