Modern-day classical music composer Richard Einhorn was born in 1952. In 1975 Einhorn graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University, where he studied composition and electronic music with Jack Beeson, Vladimir Ussachevsky, and Mario Davidovsky. In 1977 Richard produced a Meredith Monk album for Wergo Records. He was a record producer for five years with CBS Masterworks; among the artists he worked with are Yo-Yo Ma (Einhorn's production of the Bach Cello Suites with Yo-Yo Ma won a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Performance), Isaac Stern, and Jean-Pierre Rampal. Richard has written opera, orchestral and chamber music, song cycles, film scores, and dance scores. Einhorn composed the effectively spooky scores for the horror movies "Shock Waves" (this is perhaps his single most eerie and inventive fright feature score to date), "Don't Go in the House," "Eyes of a Stranger," "The Prowler," "Blood Rage," and "Sister, Sister." His exquisitely rich and lush score for "Fire-Eater" won the Jussi Award for Best Musical Score. Richard's other works include the ballet "Red Angels," "A Carnival of Miracles" for the all-female musical group Anonymous 4, the two act comic opera "Freud and Dora: A Case of Hysteria," the orchestral piece "My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss," and the cantata "The Spires, The Cities, The Field" (the latter was composed to commemorate the tragic events of September 11, 2001). Einhorn's greatest musical achievement is "Voices of Light," a stunning and acclaimed Oratorio scored for soloists, chorus, orchestra, and a bell that merges the legendary silent movie classic "The Passion of Joan of Arc" with beautiful new music by Einhorn. Richard has performed "Voices of Light" all over the world in such places as America, Canada, the Netherlands, France, and South Africa. The Sony Classical CD of "Voices of Light" was an international bestseller and spent over seven weeks on the Billboard charts. Richard Einhorn lives in New York with his wife Amy Singer and daughter Miranda.

I like to create pieces that have many layers of meaning, some of which contradict each other. The idea, then, is for the perceiver to put together his/her own meaning, to construct a personal narrative from a shared experience.
