A beloved film from the brilliant Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki delivers truly amazing video and audio in this exceptional Blu-ray release.
People call Hiyao Miyazaki the Japanese Disney and Spirited Away from 2001 is considered one of his very best, if not his masterpiece. The film starts like a fairly typical take on Alice in Wonderland or Narnia. A girl is bought into a fantasy world and has to find her way back. But Miyazaki takes it even further. His heroine, ten year old Chihiro is a typically modern girl, upset about moving into a new home and afraid of new changes in her life. But after her parents take a detour into a strange tunnel she finds herself trapped and worst of all, her parents have been turned into pigs.
Miyazaki’s fantasy vision is quite simply jaw dropping.
Rose Quartz is the structuring absence of Steven Universe. She’s the ducks flying north from Tony Soprano’s pool, the vacated desk of Laura Palmer, the hole around which the themes and characters of the series revolve and against which they react. So why does she have so little to do in what is, essentially, her introduction? “Story for Steven” is often touching and intermittently energetic, but only occasionally is it interesting.
Like Laura Palmer, Rose is gone before the cameras roll but kept alive through the people whose lives she touched and the traces of herself she left behind in the world. Unlike Laura Palmer, always a human figure for good and ill, she’s been largely symbolic and idealized throughout her posthumous appearances. The best parts

After the grim and serious Hunchback Of Notre Dame, Disney lightened the tone considerably with Hercules. Of course, technically it should be Heracles, since Hercules was the roman name, but that’s just one in a long long list of changes Disney made to the Greek myths. There are probably entire websites dedicated to the “mistakes” made by the filmmakers, but hey, artistic licence.
Reuniting the directors of The Great Mouse Detective (1986), The Little Mermaid (1989) and Aladdin (1992), Hercules is one part buddy-movie, one part coming-of-age story, and one large part Rocky-with-sandals, but first and foremost it’s a light-hearted screwball romp with a couple of life lessons thrown in. Production started in late 1994, with character designs based on classical Greek statues, with help
