William Duell was born on August 30, 1923 in Corinth, New York, USA as George William Duell. He was an actor, known for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), 1776 (1972) and Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988). He was married to Mary Barto. He died on December 22, 2011 in Manhattan, New York City, New York.

Graduate of Green Mountain Junior College (now Green Mountain College), Illinois Wesleyan University, and Yale University. A theatre scholarship at GMC is named after him.
Short, odd-looking character actor with a Shakespearean background. Tons of minor roles on stage, film and TV, and best known for his playing of one of the ensemble inmates in the Jack Nicholson Oscar winner One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975).
Son of George Leon Duell who worked for the International Paper Company and Eliza Janet Harrington Duell who changed his name to Darwin.
He studied at Green Mountain College in Vermont where he made his acting debut in Joseph Kesselring's play, "Arsenic and Old Lace.".
He served in the United States Navy as a medic during World War II. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and earned a Master's Degree from Yale University Drama School in New Haven, Connecticut where he befriended Paul Newman.
He died at his home in Manhattan (NYC).
