    He was the first conductor to make complete recordings of Tchaikovsky's three ballets - "Swan Lake", "The Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker", all with the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra (since re-named The Minnesota Orchestra), in the 1950s. He later recorded stereo remakes of "The Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker". He is the only conductor to have recorded the complete "Nutcracker" three times, with three different orchestras - the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra (in 1954), the London Symphony Orchestra (in 1962), and the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam (in 1975).
