In 1601 he eloped with Anne More, the 17-year-old niece of his employer, Sir Thomas Egerton. Donne was promptly arrested and imprisoned for marrying a minor without the consent of her guardians. He wrote his young bride a letter from prison, saying, "John Donne, Anne Donne, Undone.". See more »
