Joel Diamond
Gangsta Swing scene from the movie, Love Thing, the last American musical comedy. It is late at night and Chi-Chi (Joaquin La Habana) is alone with her memories, dreams or maybe nightmares of a career as a cabaret performer. An uptown nightclub from the swing era comes to life as Chi-Chi makes a grand entrance joining her revue of dancing boys. The fantasy switches to film noir black & white as ladies of the night and gun molls strut their stuff in a honky-tonk brothel. On top of a piano, Chi-Chi lounges seductively like forbidden fruit. A gangster enters packing heat and not satisfied with just any gal, picks Chi-Chi for his attention. He discovers more about Chi-Chi then he bargained for and feels threatened. As the red-hot jazz (by Joel Diamond) reaches a climax, the gangster reacts to someone different in typical American pop culture fashion. Filmed during the late 1970s at NYC club locations. Directed by Mike Mannetta.

New York-based composer, arranger and pianist/keyboardist Joel Diamond has successfully fused his interests in "serious" orchestral music and contemporary electronic. His string quartet, "Danza Caprichosa", recorded by Orchestra Nova, was nominated for a Grammy award. His ballet, Leonard And Minky, was premiered, with narration by Mayor Ed Koch and choreography by John Selya, at New York's Dance Theater Workshop, in January 2000. Diamond's chamber pieces have been performed by the Apple Brass Quintet and Orchestra Nova and four of his ballets have been presented by the Cuban National Ballet. His scores have been featured in Henry Bean's The Believer, winner of the feature film competition for drama at the Sundance International Film Festival in 2001, Jacques Thelemaque's The Doghouse, James Bruce's The Suicide Club and the PBS production, Heart Of The Garden. A highly sought session pianist, Diamond has worked with such artists as Mick Taylor, Graham Parker and Jane Oliver. The producer of the soundtrack albums for Welcome To The Dollhouse and David Mamet's Oleanna, Diamond has been a staff producer for Chesky since 1998, overseeing albums by Rebecca Paris, Livingston Taylor and Sarah K..
