A soloist with the Czech national opera before the Second World War, during which she met an ace fighter pilot. They married after the war, but were forced to flee during the cold war. The couple settled in London, where she continued her career on the operatic stage and later branched out into West End musicals, plays and TV series such as The Human Jungle (1963).
