  • Trivia
After studying art and cinema, Demy worked as assistant for animator Paul Grimault and director Georges Rouquier. He was influenced as a film maker at once by the French New Wave, and by Hollywood. His best films are, consequently, hybrids of both, often concerning relationships between dreams and reality. He is best known for The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) and The Young Girls of Rochefort (1967).
