‘La La Land,’ ‘Game of Thrones’ Win Cinema Audio Society Awards
La La Land” and “Game of Thrones” walked away with top film and television honors at the 53rd Cinema Audio Society Awards Saturday night.

Finding Dory” won the theatrical animated prize, while “The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and The Silk Road Ensemble” took the documentary award. Other television winners included “Modern Family” and “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”

The Jungle Book” director Jon Favreau received the organization’s Filmmaker Award. Previous recipients include Quentin Tarantino, Richard Linklater, Bill Condon, Rob Marshall and Jonathan Demme.

La La Land” is nominated for the sound mixing Oscar this year, along with “Arrival,” Cas nominee “Hacksaw Ridge,” Cas nominee “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.”

Game of Thrones” and “The People v. O.J. Simpson” won sound mixing Emmys last year.

Cinema Audio Society Announces Sound Mixing Nominees, Including ‘La La Land,’ ‘Rogue One,’ ‘Black Mirror’ and ‘Stranger Things’

The Cinema Audio Society has announced its nominees for the 53rd Annual Cas Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for 2016 in seven categories.

On the film side, strong contenders like “La La Land,” “Rogue One” and “Zootopia” picked up nods, while television series like “Game of Thrones,” “blackish” and “Stranger Things” also received nominations. For the first year, the Cas is honoring Documentary films, with nods like “O.J.: Made in America” and “13th” rounding out this inaugural category.

Missing from the film nods are more than a few surprises, including “Deepwater Horizon,” “The Jungle Book” and “Silence.”

“We are blessed this year with a rich portfolio of Cinema Audio art applied. As the creative contributions of sound mixing to modern filmmaking becomes more obvious to the world at large, these productions truly represent the talents of our community,” said Mark Ulano, Cas President, of the announcement.

The Cinema Audio Society has announced nominations for excellence in sound mixing in film and television categories.

Film contenders include “Doctor Strange,” “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Kubo and the Two Strings” and “O.J.: Made in America.”

On the TV side, series like “Game of Thrones,” “Mr. Robot,” “Westworld” and “Black-ish” were recognized, along with miniseries such as “The Night Manager” and “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”

Full list of nominees below. Winners will be announced at the 53rd annual Cas Awards on Saturday, Feb. 18.

SXSW 2016 Unveils Its Feature Film Lineup Including New John Michael McDonagh, Ti West, and Melanie Lynskey!

Sundance has only just wrapped up, and already we’re thinking abut the next big film festival on our horizon. Judith Light is nominated for a Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Play, for her role as Marie, wife of famed football coach Vince Lombardi (played by Dan Lauria).

Light, who starred as Angela Bower on “Who’s the Boss?” and Karen Wolek on “One Life to Live,” received critical acclaim for her performance as Lombardi’s “hammer-tongued, hard-drinking wife,” according to the Journal’s theater critic, Terry Teachout.
