Joseph E. Davies was an American lawyer and diplomat and served in three Democratic administrations. He served as ambassador to Russia from 1936-1938 and wrote a popular book, Mission to Moscow, based on his experiences. The book was later adapted as a Warner Bros. movie starring Walter Huston as Davies and Ann Harding as his wife, Marjorie Post Davies.
