Oliver Stone is more than just a filmmaker. The man enlisted in the United States Army during the time of the Vietnam War and when he returned, he decided to tell the harrowing stories of war through the art of filmmaking. His 1986 film Platoon starring was one such film, but it could’ve ended up looking a bit different if actors like Keanu Reeves and Kevin Costner had agreed to be a part of it.
A still from Platoon (1986)
So why did they turn down a film that would go on to become critically acclaimed, do great at the box office, and receive not one, but four Academy Awards? Well, given the fact that the film was based on the Vietnam War and Oliver Stone’s firsthand experience with it, the topic might have been a bit too much for the actors.

This article contains mild Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire spoilers.
Before Godzilla vs. Kong finished its opening weekend, genre director and lifelong kaiju fan, Adam Wingard, knew he had to get these two crazy guys together again. Despite releasing the film in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic—Godzilla vs. Kong was in fact one of the first bright spots for movie theaters in the spring of 2021 when social distancing kept cinemas at a quarter capacity—the vibe in the auditorium was still electric by picture’s end.
“I remember there’s a moment at the end of the movie when Godzilla and Kong briefly team up to kill Mechagodzilla,” Wingard says while stifling a sheepish chuckle at the absurdity of it all. “And when that happened, the roof blew off the place. People were just so into it, man, they were so excited, cheering, and stuff. It hit...

This time of the year is huge for professional wrestling fans as Wrestlemania is rapidly approaching. But before the Showcase of Immortals descends upon Philadelphia, Pa in a few weeks, the biggest tag team match of the year may actually take place in movie theaters around the world thanks to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire rather than a WWE ring.
Following their colossal head-to-head battle during their first encounter in 2021, the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla must team up to fend off a previously undiscovered threat that looms over both of their domains of Hollow Earth and the surface world. Ahead of the movie’s March 29, 2024 release date, director Adam Wingard invited Daily Dead and other esteemed members of the press to the IMAX Headquarters to show off the upcoming sequel to his first MonsterVerse crossover. Along with the film itself, Wingard also recreated his “war room” to...

In Adam Wingard's "Godzilla vs. Kong," the two Titans clash viciously and almost push one another to the brink of destruction. However, the rise of a new threat, Mechagodzilla (possessed by King Ghidorah's consciousness), prompts the two to cooperate and take down their common enemy. Although Godzilla and Kong go their separate ways after this event, is this temporary truce meant to last? This question leads us directly into "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," in which Wingard has returned to orchestrate a memorable showdown between the colossal Titans amidst an unknown threat poised to destroy the world as we know it. While a classic premise for a creature feature, it is a story that fans of the MonsterVerse are eager to experience, especially with the promise of a brand new antagonist lurking in the shadows.

June 1982 saw the release of not one, but two movies about aliens bonding with humans. Both of them are remembered today as early masterpieces that confirm their directors’ skill and vision. One, of course, is Steven Spielberg‘s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, which released on June 11, 1982. Two weeks later came The Thing, directed by John Carpenter. But in 1982, only E.T. earned praise.
“In fact the film was an enormous failure,” Carpenter recently told The Guardian in his typically blunt manner in a feature that published Tuesday morning. But then that’s about as nostalgic as Carpenter often sounds, even while discussing his first studio picture which remade one of his favorite movies: 1951’s The Thing From Another World.

There's a popular quip among programmers, originally attributed to Bell Labs' Tom Cargill, which states that 90% of code accounts for 10% of development time, and the last 10% of code takes up the other 90% of development time. A similar rule applies in screenwriting, as "Community" creator Dan Harmon admitted when he addressed Donald Glover's claims that the script for the upcoming "Community" movie is complete.
"I can confirm Donald Glover's report that I told him the script was done, but I will also say Donald's sources are so unreliable because the script is always 'almost done,'" Harmon joked to Variety. Indeed, finishing a movie script is really only the first step. Just ask any screenwriter with a file name along the lines of moviescriptfinaldraft2FINAL_v4.pdf sitting on their computer.
So, with certain aspects of the "Community" movie still in flux, what is certain about it? "It's set on...

Super Bowl Sunday always has a little something for everyone, but this year's big game in Las Vegas went above and beyond in the razzle-dazzle department.
We were, of course, prepared for a celebrity-crammed spectacle due to the luxury booth presence of Travis Kelce's substantially famous girlfriend, but this gridiron rematch between last year's combatants, the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, brought out more than just arguably the most famous pop star on the planet. The only pop star in that aforementioned argument, Beyoncé, was there with her hip-hop god husband Jay-Z! The world's greatest basketball player, LeBron James, flew in from Los Angeles for the contest! And Paul freakin' Rudd, sporting a bushy freakin' mustache that would've driven Avery Schreiber into a jealous rage, prowled the sidelines pre-game in support of his hometown Chiefs!

Stars: Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, Leslie Uggams, Sterling K. Brown, John Ortiz, Adam Brody, Keith David, Issa Rae, Myra Lucretia Taylor | Written and Directed by Cord Jefferson
Having worked on TV shows like Watchmen and The Good Place, Cord Jefferson makes his directorial debut with this feature adaption of Percival Everett’s 2001 novel, Erasure. American Fiction follows Thelonious “Monk” Ellison (Jeffrey Wright), a writer who is irritated at how the publishing world rejected his latest work for not being “black enough.” Monk pours those frustrations into a novel satirising the tropes that black writers are expected to adhere to, although he is surprised at how well-received the book becomes.
What Jefferson has crafted is a witty piece of social commentary that approaches the treatment of black stories in ways that are thoughtful and entertaining. The frustration is felt at how the stories most valued are the ones pandering to tired stereotypes,...

In the icy silence of Antarctica, the open-ended conclusion of John Carpenter’s The Thing left audiences teetering on the edge of an unresolved mystery, one that has haunted and intrigued fans for decades.
In a conversation with GQ, Kurt Russell offered his own insights into one of cinema’s most enduring enigmas: the ambiguous finale of John Carpenter’s The Thing. This topic has intrigued fans for decades, especially regarding the true identity of the alien impostor in the film’s concluding moments. Was it Russell’s character, MacReady, or Childs, played by Keith David? Both? Neither?
Even John Carpenter himself has been coy about the true nature of the film’s conclusion, claiming to hold the sole knowledge of The Thing’s identity in those closing moments,.
In the interview, Russell reminisced about the film’s production, noting Carpenter’s dissatisfaction with the final scene. The director was...

Kurt Russell has been doing the press rounds for the Godzilla series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and if there’s one thing that this press tour has made very clear, it’s the fact that people loves to talk to Russell about John Carpenter’s 1982 classic The Thing (watch or buy it Here). The latest ones to bring up The Thing him were the folks at GQ, and this time Russell took the opportunity to reveal that he wasn’t a fan of the sombrero Carpenter had his character MacReady wear.
Russell told GQ (with thanks to Syfy Wire for the transcription of the video), “I went into wardrobe … and when I was in there, I noticed, sitting over on this chair by itself, was this enormous sombrero. And finally, at some point, I said to the wardrobe person, ‘What’s the deal with the sombrero?’ And they said, ‘Oh,...

This article contains spoilers for Masters of the Universe: Revolution.
The big twist at the end of Masters of the Universe: Revelation Part 2 was the reveal of Hordak (Keith David), the main villain of the original 1985 She-Ra series. Masters of the Universe: Revolution directly follows on from that, with Skeletor (Mark Hamill) working for and eventually betraying Hordak.
Episode 4 has the two duke it out in a battle right out of kids playtime, with Hordak’s legs even shapeshifting into a rocket. Skeletor manages to gain the upper-hand and seemingly kills Hordak, stabbing him through the heart. That isn’t the end of him, though.
The fifth and final episode of Revolution has Skeletor defeated and Eternia saved. It feels like the show is wrapping itself up, ready to close out this chapter in the Motu franchise. Then, nope, we get a final scene that sends the show hurtling in an incredible new direction.

Review: Back in 2021, I gave a glowing review to Kevin Smith’s revival of He-Man. Titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation, the Netflix original was released in two five-episode drops, both of which I loved. A blend of modern animation techniques coupled with a throwback to the Filmation style of the 1980s cartoon, Revelation was blasted online by a vocal minority who disliked Smith’s decision to “kill off” Prince Adam in the first episode and make the series centered on Teela and many of the female characters. By the end of the full series, Smith’s vision came to fruition, even though many fans were not swayed. The second...

Hazbin Hotel, the first foray into animation for award-winning studio A24, is actually not new, despite having debuted on Prime Video just last Friday.
The R-rated musical comedy originated online as a 30-minute pilot in 2019 and quickly won over a fanbase that has largely stuck by it since its self-funded days. The series follows princess of Hell Charlie Morningstar (Erika Henningsen), who in an attempt to stop the angels from murderously purging her demonic subjects, opens a hotel to help rehabilitate them. The goal: Turn these sinners into saints unable to be wiped out by the (unsettlingly terrifying) angels.
She’s joined — in certain cases against their will — by friends, funders and her father (that’s Lucifer voiced by Jeremy Jordan). That includes Charlie’s grounded girlfriend Vaggie (Stephanie Beatriz); exasperated bartender Husk (Keith David); sex worker and rehabilitation Guinea pig Anthony “Angel Dust” (Blake Roman); Alastor the “Radio Demon...

Attica and Tembi Locke are re-teaming for another TV series.
The siblings, who already adapted Tembi’s memoir as the Netflix series From Scratch, have signed an overall deal with Universal Television and set up their first project under the pact: an adaptation of Attica’s novel Bluebird, Bluebird.
The drama, which does not yet have a network/platform attached, revolves around Darren Mathews, a Black Texas Ranger who is deeply ambivalent about growing up Black in the lone star state and was the first in his family to get as far away from Texas as he could — until duty called him home.
The Lockes will co-write and exec produce the series alongside Richard Abate, Jermaine Johnson and Will Rowbotham for 3 Arts Entertainment.
“From our first meeting with Universal Television, we felt instant creative alignment,” said Attica and Tembi Locke. “As authors, we understand storytelling across different formats and platforms.

Before we get into this latest little tidbit, here’s a brief refresher course…
Back in October of 2022, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane announced that Blumhouse was still on board the Spawn ship and that Scott Silver (Joker), Malcolm Spellman (Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Matthew Mixon had been hired the write the script. Additionally, at the time, Jamie Foxx was still attached to star as the title character.
It’s been a long hard road out of development hell with his brand new Spawn feature, which Todd McFarlane had originally planned to direct. It seems he’s stepped aside from those desires,...

The comedy drama American Fiction won the People’s Choice Award when it was screened at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray gave the film an 8/10 review (you can read it Here), calling it “one of the year’s most sophisticated satires, albeit one with a big heart and an empathetic core.” Now American Fiction has received a recommendation from one of the most popular authors of all time, Stephen King.
King took to his X account to say, “American Fiction is just terrific. So warmhearted and giving that you hardly notice the sharp teeth of its satire. Leslie Uggams stole my heart. Any movie that starts with the title of a Flannery O’Connor story that can no longer be uttered has me in its corner right away.“

For 41 years, people have been discussing and debating the ending of John Carpenter’s 1982 classic The Thing (watch or buy it Here). People who worked on the movie can’t even seem to agree on what was happening in the final scene. Cinematographer Dean Cundey thought he had given away the answer, but then Carpenter came in and said Cundey had “no clue” what he was talking about. So the mystery remains. And for star Kurt Russell, it’s fun to hear that people are still talking about that ending.
Russell is currently doing the press rounds for the Godzilla series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and the ending of The Thing came up during his interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Russell said (with thanks to Screen Rant for the transcription), “We talked about that, the ending of that movie, John and I, for a long, long time. We...
