Ed Helms starred as Andy Bernard on The Office for seven seasons before the show came to an end in 2009. But will his character be making a return in the follow-up series, The Paper, which began production last year? “I have zero intel on that, I’m sorry to say,” Helms said on the Tuesday, April 29, episode of The View. “And I also don’t know yet if Andy will be making an appearance. I haven’t heard. No one’s called.” However, he said he “hopes” to bring his character back, if possible. “I’m just gonna float that energy out there right now,” the actor added. “Greg Daniels is making this show. It’s gonna be great. It’s gonna be incredible.” So far, the only cast member from The Office who’s confirmed for The Paper is Oscar Nuñez, who will be reprising his role as Oscar Martinez.

It’s true, The Office is a gem. But not everyone from today’s generation caught it the first time around. Back in the day, it wasn’t an instant phenomenon. Some folks just didn’t give it a shot, and others didn’t realize what they were missing.
Fast forward to 2020, and suddenly, The Office was everywhere again. Thanks to the rise of streaming during the pandemic, the show found new life and a brand-new audience. In fact, it became the most-streamed show in the U.S. that year, right before it left Netflix, and has been a top performer for Peacock ever since.
What’s wild is that The Office was basically built for binge-watching before binge-watching was even a thing. With its short episodes, lovable weirdos, and mockumentary style, the show was effortlessly addictive. You didn’t just watch an episode, you let five play while you “folded laundry.

In 2007, The Office was at the height of its popularity. And NBC, eager to capitalize on the success of its workplace mockumentary, had only one interest: to create a spinoff. The network wanted to expand its success.
But rather than simply following the easy route, co-creators Greg Daniels and his collaborator Michael Schur had other ideas. The idea would go on to shape a show that became iconic in its own right. A show that became a beloved standalone sitcom — Parks and Recreation.

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Parks and Recreation, in an interview with the Television Academy, Michael Schur shared insights into how the show evolved. In the 2024 interview, he revealed that it was initially conceived as a potential spinoff of The Office.

These modern-day mockumentary-style sitcoms have a lot in common. For one, Mike Schur is the creative mastermind behind pioneer shows like The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Some affectionately call this collection his ‘Schurniverse’ — which certainly has a nice ring to it.
Schur and his co-writer Greg Daniels set the decisive precedent, thanks to all nine seasons of The Office on NBC. But they perfected the faux-documentary formula when they came out with 125 exhilarating episodes (that’s without counting the special reunion release) of Parks and Rec. However, you would be surprised to know the format isn’t the only thing connecting the mock world of Pawnee, In, to that of Scranton, Pa.
The ‘Schur-thing’ principle: How The Office seeded Parks and Recreation
You could draw the parallels all you want. Yes, of course, there’s the ‘Leslie is just a more optimistic version of Michael Scott’ scenario.

Much like many of you, I thought that Michael Scott walking out of The Office was the TV equivalent of dropping your ice cream cone on a hot sidewalk. For me, Steve Carell’s exit meant no more “that’s what she said” jokes or Prison Mike intervention, which made up 90% of the show. Carell’s exit was a gut punch that made me cry.
But reading Mike Schur and B.J. Novak’s comments, I’m starting to believe we overlooked another heartbreak that quietly shook the Scranton branch. I mean, while the World’s Best Boss’ departure felt tragic, Greg Daniels leaving the writers’ room just took away the real secret sauce behind the magic of Dunder Mifflin.
Mike Schur and B.J. Novak praised the genius behind The Office
Since the world often believes in what it sees, even I considered Steve Carell as the heart of The Office.

Michael Scott’s evolution into the goofy, heartwarming guy who’s actually good at his job has been quite immaculate to see unfolding on screen. But the jump the creators took from Season 1 to Season 2 was quite big, so big that fans of The Office, who often force their friends and family to watch the series, have to beg them to push past Season 1, because it actually gets better after that.
And it really does. So what really changed, exactly? Well, Michael Scott’s hairline was one thing, and his attitude and personality were also on the list.
Now, on the 20th anniversary of The Office, the show’s creators are finally pulling back the curtain on what really turned things around and how they almost didn’t get the chance to, if they didn’t change certain things. Turns out, a little heart, a lot of rewrites, and a...

Yep, Funko is heading to Arlen, Texas, for its next round of Pop! figures. With the hotly-anticipated King of the Hill revival series just around the corner after years in development, the collectible giant has unveiled four new figures commemorating the show's four beer-drinking buddies, Hank Hill (Mike Judge), Dale Gribble (Johnny Hardwick), Bill Dauterive (Stephen Root), and Jeff Boomhauer (Mike Judge). Each item recreates the characters as they appear in the animated comedy's iconic intro with drinks in hand and hands in pockets after a hard day's work. They'll all be available to purchase either separately for $16.99 or as an exclusive four-pack from GameStop for anyone who wants to reunite them in front of a wooden fence. Additionally, a fifth collectible will also be released at a later date that will depict Hank on his trusty riding mower.

On March 24, 2005, NBC aired the first episode of The Office, an American remake of the British comedy that would go on to become one of the most iconic and beloved television shows of all time. As the show marks its 20th anniversary, Mindy Kaling is opening up about the early days of the show’s writing room.
However, reflecting on her time working on The Office, Kaling has shared surprising insights into her feelings towards one of the show’s most iconic episodes and her co-star and co-writer who wrote it. At that time, Kaling was still new to the writers’ room and still finding her footing as a comedy writer. She admits she was “so angry” at how good it was.

The Office has long reigned as one of the finer pieces in the world of sitcoms and satirical comedies, and rightly so: It had all the elements to have viewers worldwide unable to hold their laughter in at all. An NBC remake of what was originally a BBC series, the writers, which included Michael Schur, did an absolutely baffling job at bringing the respective show to life.
But as much as it amused fans and viewers over the course of the eight years and nine seasons that it ran for (not that it doesn’t continue to do so!), Schur credits one other US remake of a show that only ran for a season for helping their series run on the screens as gloriously as it did: Coupling. This is because that show had the writers doubting the remake before it even aired!
Coupling originally had even The Office writers concerned about its performance Coupling.

As The Office celebrates its 20th anniversary, it’s hard to imagine the TV landscape without it. Before it became a cultural juggernaut, Michael Schur was convinced that making the show would be a terrible idea. In fact, Schur was so sure that it wouldn’t work that he almost passed on the opportunity to join the project.
What changed his mind? One unexpected meeting with co-creator Greg Daniels completely changed Schur’s perspective. That pivotal meeting with Daniels later shaped Schur’s career and changed the course of television history. Here’s how one strange meeting led to the creation of a cultural phenomenon.

Well, well, well, The Office might just be opening its doors again, and Dunder Mifflin fans are buzzing louder than Kevin’s chili pot hitting the floor. After years of rumors, awkward silences, and hopeful glances at NBCUniversal, the reboot is officially in motion over at Peacock. Yes, the same place your favorite paper-pushing chaos now lives after its Netflix exit heartbreak. While the original show clocked out in 2013, it’s stayed stapled to everyone’s heart, thanks to streaming marathons, TikTok memes, and our collective obsession with office awkwardness.
Now, with creator Greg Daniels once again behind the desk, things are finally heating up in Scranton 2.0 (or wherever the new branch lands). Per Entertainment Weekly, Poehler opened up about the truth behind Philly Justice on the latest episode of her Good Hang podcast. "We pretended we were on a fake TV show in the '90s called Philly Justice — or the early 2000s — and we all crossed our arms," Poehler recalled. "Then that became a text chain as the actors."
Kathryn Hahn, who appeared as a guest star in ten episodes of Parcs and Rec, added, "We had, like, businessy outfits on. I think we were going to court or something. So all of us had very businessy [looks]. And I don't know whose idea it was, but we were all in kind of staggered stairs and what looked like the front of like a very … a courthouse." It’s been more than a decade since audiences said farewell to The Officeand the workers at Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, and 20 years since the show first premiered on NBC. A spinoff, reportedly titled The Paper, has been in the works at Peacock, and now one former Office star confirms that he will be part of the new cast.
Per Entertainment Weekly, Oscar Nuñez, appearing on the Todayshow with fellow The Office castmate, Angela Kinsey, confirmed that he will reprise his role as Oscar Martínez for the new series. The new show will feature the same “mocumentary” feel with the same documentary crew that filmed the workers at Dunder Mifflin. However, in the new show, the crew will follow the workers at a struggling midwestern newspaper.
“They’re still editing and stuff,”Nuñez said. “It’s very, very exciting.”In February, it was rumored that Nuñez would be back for the reboot.

It's a little hard to believe that The Office spin-off is actually happening, especially because rumors of it have been going around for years. This time, however, the new series is giving all the signs that it has taken off by announcing main cast members and its basic premise. This week, however, The Office alumnus Oscar Nuñez provided an important update on The Paper, and it looks like the show is a lot closer to coming to our screens than we imagined.
The information was revealed during a participation on the Today show. Nuñez was invited along with several original cast members, including Brian Baumgartner (Kevin), Angela Kinsey (Angela), Creed Bratton (Creed), Kate Flannery (Meredith), Leslie David Baker (Stanley), and Ellie Kemper (Erin). The group was celebrating the series' 20th anniversary, and during the group interview Nuñez revealed that episodes are in the editing process, which might indicate that a trailer will pop up soon.

Okay, I’m freaking out—Jenna Fischer—our forever Pam Beesly, just visited the set of The Office spinoff, and my little Dunder Mifflin-loving heart can’t handle it! She went to the new set with Angela Kinsey (aka the queen of cats), and they dropped in to see Oscar Nuñez, who’s set to be the titular star of the spinoff.
And get this—Angela Kinsey said it was “really moving” to be back with Oscar Nuñez and the old crew. I swear, I’m this close to crying into Michael Scott’s World’s Best Boss mug. I mean, we’re still not sure if Fischer and Kinsey would be a part of the spinoff, but my heart wants what it wants. I’d trade all the printers at Dunder Mifflin just to see Pam and Oscar being the ultimate duo, once again.

The Office is set to return to our screens with the upcoming reboot/sequel, starring Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore, along with some familiar faces from the original NBC series. Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, who played Pam and Angela, respectively, recently visited the set of the upcoming reboot, and they teased what audiences can expect from the show. But, one big question looms large over their update: what is just a set visit? Or, will they be appearing in the new show?
Angela Kinsey, who co-hosts an Office-themed podcast titled Office Ladies with Jenna Fischer, recently appeared on Today as part of an Office reunion. During the conversation, Kinsey revealed that herself and Fischer had visited the set of the new The Office reboot. "Jenna and I stopped by set," she began. So far, of all the characters from the original show, only Oscar (Oscar Nuñez) is confirmed to return for the reboot.

In Chapter 15 of Rainn Wilson’s memoir, The Bassoon King, he reveals that he penned lyrics to the famously lyric-less theme song for The Office. But in an epic tease, he didn’t include the words in his book. Maybe, he wrote, he’d reveal them later.
Well, later is now. On this week’s episode of the Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know podcast, the host twisted Wilson’s arm. In his book, Minhaj noted, the guy who played Dwight Shrute wrote, "Perhaps I’ll sing them to you one day if you’re nice.”

Two long years after a reboot of King of the Hill, one of the world’s best-animated sitcoms, was announced, another terrific update has been shared by a Disney exec, particularly regarding one character. On January 31, 2023, a revival on Hulu was officially confirmed to be ordered for the fan-favorite show and is expected to last two seasons. Several beloved characters are also set to reprise their roles, including Hank, Peggy, Bobby, Bill, Minh and Coonie, one of whom is about to be seen in an entirely different light.
Speaking with Variety over a week ago, Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich didn’t divulge much about the King of the Hill revival; however, he believed viewers would be totally taken with it while also hinting at a change in a longtime character. The exec said:

Hank. Dale. Bill. Boomhauer.
Since King of the Hill’s premiere in 1997, the Alamo-cracking residents of Rainey Street have remained largely the same, a fact that just might change come the animated series’ highly anticipated revival.
Ahead of the show’s 14th season, fans have discovered that IMDb and social media have had a whole lot to say — or at least more than Mike Judge and Greg Daniels — about the upcoming episodes. Listing several confirmed cast members, which include Judge, Pamela Adlon, Kathy Najimy and Johnny Hardwick, who reprised his role as Dale in two episodes ahead of his 2023 death, newcomer Marwan Naji is also purportedly joining the ranks of Arlen’s finest.
The specifics of his alleged roles remain a mystery, but his characters aren’t: “Muhammad” and “Saudi Guy” in the show’s premiere and “Tourist Six” in Episode Seven. That said, written under the “King of the Hill Revival...

Upload season four is on the way!
The Prime Video series will be back for a fourth and final season, set to debut later this year.
“When I conceived ‘Upload’ many years ago, I had the story arced out over four seasons, so I am thrilled to make the ending the fans deserve and the characters and creative team have been working towards,” series creator Greg Daniels said, via Variety.
In season three, Nora and freshly downloaded Nathan navigate their relationship, while racing to stop the mysterious conspiracy that threatens to destroy millions of lives. Can they shut down Freeyond, and finally have a real life together? Or is it just a matter of time until Nathan’s head explodes? Meanwhile, in Lakeview, a backup copy of Nathan has been activated and Ingrid’s not about to let this second chance at love slip away. Back in the real world,...

Beyond 10 leaked episode titles and a now-deleted glimpse at a grown-up Bobby Hill, there’s still a lot we don’t know about King of the Hill’s upcoming revival. How will the show handle the losses of voice actors Johnny Hardwick and Brittany Murphy? When can fans expect to revisit Rainey Street now that the predicted “early 2025” release window has come and gone? And most importantly, will we ever learn how Cotton Hill wound up as the face of a 1970s Ponderosa Steakhouse ad campaign?
But there is one King of the Hill tidbit we now know for certain: We’re about to see Hank Hill like we’ve never seen him before.

The sitcom has been around since the earliest days of television, when Lucille Ball, Dick Van Dyke, and Mary Tyler Moore ruled the airwaves. In 2015, there's countless more channels that existed in those days, but even with an endless amount of content to watch at any given moment, many viewers always find themselves drawn back to one particular modern classic: "The Office."
"The Office" originated in the UK, created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant and starring the former as the insensitive Gm of a paper company. The mockumentary sitcom was adapted for American audiences on NBC in 2005, swapping out Gervais for Steve Carell, then known for his work on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." The show also boasted a supporting cast including future Hollywood icons like John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, and Mindy Kaling.

The Office, the iconic comedy series starring Steve Carell, John Krasinski, and Rainn Wilson, just turned 20 years old on March 24, 2025. The legacy of one of NBC's best sitcoms ever is indisputable today, but two decades ago, almost no one thought the same. In fact, not many people during the production of Season 1 even thought it would even air. Nevertheless, after one of its key episodes, the writers and creators of the show were able to see that they had a hit on their hands. That episode? Well, none other than the classic "Diversity Day," of course.
In a new oral history published by The Hollywood Reporter, the creators of The Office recalled their experience making Season 1 of what was actually a pretty experimental idea at the time. A mockumentary sitcom with an obnoxious and relatively unknown lead? While it could have been a recipe for disaster, the show actually...

Part of what made the original British version of "The Office" and the early seasons of its American counterpart so engaging was that they both felt so tactile and believable. Sure, the later seasons of the U.S. version of "The Office" weren't its best, but initially, the characters and their interactions felt real, the drudgery of their office work felt real, and that very office itself felt real. No doubt helped by the well-executed mockumentary format and use of mostly unknown actors, this element of realism was part of what made the show as enduringly beloved as it became — everybody, at one time, had a boss like Michael Scott, and everybody had endured the beige, fluorescent hellscape that was the modern office.
It's a testament to the production team's talents on the U.S. "Office" (which Ricky Gervais wasn't involved with) that most of the series was shot on a set.

On paper, renewing "Common Side Effects" for a second season is a no-brainer. The Adult Swim series, which is about two former high school lab partners named Marshall and Frances who discover a magical mushroom with healing properties that can cure just about everything and must face-off against big pharma, international businessmen, and the United States federal Drug Enforcement Administration, was created by Joe Bennett (the incredible "Scavengers Reign") and Steve Hely ("Veep"), and features Mike Judge and Greg Daniels ("King of the Hill") as executive producers. With a roster of above-the-line talent boasting such an impressive resume, the name value alone in any other era would justify at least three seasons without a second thought.

At this point, The Office is easily considered one of the most beloved series of recent years. But that doesn't mean that every character that was part of the Dunder Mifflin family was loved by everyone. During a participation on the podcast Good Hang, hosted by Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), former The Office star Rashida Jones (Sunny) talked about her one-season stint on the hit series and revealed that there was a simple reason why she was eventually let go from the show.
Jones stated that the decision not to keep her character Karen Filipelli in the story "made sense." As Poehler pointed out, it was a difficult character to play. Karen is introduced in Season 3, after Jim (John Krasinski) asks to be transferred to a different branch because he thinks things won't work out with Pam (Jenna Fischer) and believes it's best to stay away. For fans of King of the Hill, Monsignor Martinez is about as cool as you can get. Seen regularly on the television of the Hill family, Monsignor Martinez is a fictional priest who always seems to be wrapped up in melodramatic life-and-death adventures in the telenovela named after him. In King of the Hill, the ridiculous clips of Monsignor Martinez are always good for a quick laugh, but if the television gods had complied, we could have gotten a lot more of him.

Rashida Jones knows that “The Office” shipped Jim and Pam before “shipping” was even a thing — and she’s made peace with the fact that many viewers hated her character for coming in between them.
“I was the third point in the triangle, it’s fine, I accept it,” she said in a Tuesday episode of Amy Poehler’s new podcast, “Good Hang.”
Jones co-starred on “The Office” after being introduced in Season 3 as Karen Filippelli, a new co-worker for Jim (John Krasinski), who at the top of the season had just accepted a job at a different branch of Dunder Mifflin — in part to remove himself from Pam (Jenna Fischer), who was engaged when they shared a kiss at the end of Season 2. Karen becomes a love interest for Jim, ultimately creating a love triangle that many fans decidedly wanted to be an A-b relationship between the main characters.

Isn’t it hoot how a show about the most unassuming of jobs—a paper company, no less—could become a touchstone of popular culture? As we sit here pondering its profound impact, we can’t help but recall Jim Halpert’s poignant line in The Office: “Everything I have I owe to this job—this stupid, wonderful, boring, amazing job.”
Ah, the irony! That’s the sweet spot that makes this NBC classic more than just a comedy—it’s a masterclass in paradox. It captured the beauty of life’s dullest routines, where we see ourselves reflected in the quirky, often maddening characters who spend their days at Dunder Mifflin or Wernham Hogg.

It was different with Mindy Kaling, who played customer service rep Kelly Kapoor. Kaling...

Twenty years ago, NBC premiered a new sitcom based on a hit U.K. series. The Office debuted on March 24, 2005, and was not an immediate hit in its initial six-episode run. The show struggled to find its footing out of the block, with several episodes virtually xeroxed from the storylines of its British predecessor created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant and transplanted, often clunkily, to Scranton, Pa. But soon enough showrunner Greg Daniels found his groove and leaned into the strengths of his formidable ensemble, led by Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and Rainn Wilson.
The Office would go on to become a must-see TV staple, running nine seasons and earning five Emmys in 42 nominations — and then becoming a hit all over again as a new generation rediscovered and binged The Office when it hit streaming. Until 2023, The Office held the record as most-streamed series, with more than 57 billion minutes watched.

In the annals of TV romances, the one between Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) and Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) on the U.S. remake of "The Office" looms particularly large, especially among 21st-century examples. Jim and Pam's courtship was, of course, far from the first will-they-won't-they romance featured in a TV comedy. Still, in the modern era, their gradual evolution from being co-workers at the boring Dunder-Mifflin paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania to becoming married with kids and living happily ever after is quite special.
Indeed, while it's arguable that the show, as a whole, was past its prime by the time "The Office" ended after nine seasons, the Jim and Pam relationship itself remains a high point of the series. It's also set a bar that other TV shows have had to clear when it comes to establishing a believable possible romance (one that causes viewers to swoon and root...

On March 24, 2005, NBC aired the first episode of The Office, an American remake of the universally acclaimed, Golden Globe-winning BBC comedy of the same name. The premiere, a mockumentary that introduced the staff of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company’s branch in Scranton, Pennsylvania, pulled in a decent-sized audience that night. It drew 11.2 million viewers following an episode of The Apprentice — but even with that start, expectations for the show were not high.
NBC had produced a pilot for The Office, written by King of the Hill co-creator Greg Daniels, in early 2004, just after Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s BBC show won the Golden Globe for best comedy and Gervais took home the award for best actor in a comedy. The network ordered the show to series that spring but picked up only five more episodes. After premiering on a Thursday, the remaining episodes ran on Tuesday nights, where it struggled.

The Office debuted on NBC 20 years ago on March 24th, 2005, and American television hasn’t been the same ever since. While it may have been inspired by the British version from creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, The Office has certainly made its mark as it continues to entertain viewers decades after it premiered. But what was the experience like behind the scenes? Former star Craig Robinson got candid about his audition story with TV Insider in-studio as he reflected on his process. NBC / Peacock “I got the audition through my agent manager and… there were like 12 people in the room and Greg Daniels, who adapted The Office for American television,” Robinson recalls, painting a picture of the day. “He was at the head, of the group,” Robinson adds, “And at the time I had a video out with Jerry Minor and this video was called ‘Somebody’s F***ing...
