Thomas Haden Church reportedly playing Lobster Johnson in Hellboy

Having portrayed the character of Flint Marko / Sandman in 2007’s Spider-Man 3, actor Thomas Haden Church revealed earlier this year that he’d shot a secret role in a comic book movie, and if a report from Discussing Film is accurate, it seems that secret has now been revealed.

According to the site, the film in question is the upcoming Hellboy reboot from Lionsgate, with Church reportedly playing the classic fan favourite Hellboy character Lobster Johnson.

Created by Mike Mignola, Lobster Johnson was a vigilante from the 1930s who operated in secret, and had a reputation for brutality and violence, often killing mobsters and burning his trademark lobster claw symbol into their foreheads. He was killed during a mission against the Nazis in 1939, but returns even more powerful as a ghost, working with Hellboy and the Bprd on a number of missions.

During the New York Comic Con last month,

Thomas Haden Church Reportedly Plays Lobster Johnson in The Hellboy Reboot

Spider-Man 3 and Sideways star Thomas Haden Church was reportedly cast is director Neil Marshall’s Hellboy reboot. According to Discussing Film, Church will take on the pulp era vigilante Lobster Johnson.

Apparently Haden Church previously teased the role earlier this year during an interview with JoBlo. Church was asked if he would ever return to the superhero movie genre after playing Sandman in Spider-Man 3 and this was his response:

“I’m not supposed to talk about it, but I actually have returned, but not in the Marvel world, it’s another world, but it is in that genre of superheroes and supervillains. I’m not supposed to talk about it, it’s a movie I shot last year. They’re trying to keep it-and good luck to ‘em-with, y’know, today man, I’m surprised it hasn’t already kinda been revealed.”

In case you’re not familiar with Lobster Johnson,

Apparently The Upcoming Hellboy Reboot Has a Poor First Test Screening

I’ve actually been pretty excited about seeing director Neil Marshall’s Hellboy reboot with David Harbour in the role of the hellish hero. I like everything that I’ve seen and heard about it so far, but apparently the first test screening for the film didn’t go too well.

The first reactions are being reported on and it’s not promising. The news comes from DanielRPK who heard from some audience members that were in attendance at the test screening for the film. He says that the reactions have been “pretty bad.”

His report was then backed up by another reporter named Sylar Shuler, who said:

Daniel heard right, I’ve also heard bad things about this film.

First Reactions To Hellboy Say It’s Pretty Bad, Story And Villain Are Lacking

It’s fair to say when it was first revealed that the Hellboy franchise was going to be rebooted and director Guillermo del Toro and star Ron Perlman wouldn’t get the chance to make a third film and complete their trilogy, fans of the Dark Horse comics character were pretty angry. The more we’ve learned about the project though, the more people’s opinions of it have begun to change and after Lionsgate showed off what was apparently a very impressive trailer at New York Comic Con, everything seemed to be on the right track.

Judging by the online reactions to it, everyone was pretty pleased with what they laid eyes on last month, and though the studio still hasn’t made it available online just yet, it seems that they’ve already begun test screening the film. However, unlike reactions to the trailer at Nycc, the response hasn’t been great,

It’s fair to say when it was first announced that the Hellboy franchise was to be rebooted and director Guillermo del Toro and star Ron Perlman wouldn’t get to bring us a third movie, fans of the Dark Horse comics character were pretty upset. The more we’ve learned about the project though, the more people’s opinions of it have turned around and now, anticipation is sky high. Especially after that first trailer was shown off.

Detailed Description of the Hellboy Reboot Footage That Screened at Nycc

Over the weekend, the very first footage from the upcoming Hellboy reboot was screened at Nycc. Cast members David Harbour (Hellboy), Sasha Lane (Alice Monaghan) and Daniel Dae Kim (Ben Daimio) as well as creator Mike Mignola were all in attendance and while they were there they shared a trailer for the film. We won’t see this trailer online for awhile but thanks to ComingSoon we have a detailed description of that trailer to share with you in case you’re curious:

“They warned us that something was coming…” says a female voice.

The 2-minute Hellboy trailer opens with a shot of a London apartment building, then cuts to a huge cavernous fantasyscape, rocky with a big lake. Two tiny figures walk on one of the rocky surfaces.

“If there is ever an end in this forever war… it will be because of you, and your strong right hand,

David Harbour Says He’ll Officiate a Wedding as Hellboy – for a Devilish Number of Retweets
David Harbour said he would officiate a wedding in full Hellboy get-up for a devilish number of retweets — 666,000, to be exact.

On Sept. 25, the actor asked his fans to devise a retweet challenge for him to close out 2018. In response, a fan asked how many retweets he would need for Harbour to officiate his March wedding in full Hellboy gear.

“666k Of this tweet. Big Red officiates. Full Gear. In his saintly best,” Harbour responded. “Impossible number? Think of how difficult it will be for me to get this character ordained by a Christian church (P.S. – I’ll knock off 500k if you can get @artofmmignola to read a poem at the service),” he said, tagging Mike Mignola, comic artist and creator of the Hellboy universe.

Hellboy footage description and New York Comic Con video interviews

Yesterday at the New York Comic Con, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and stars David Harbour, Sasha Lane and Daniel Dae Kim were on hand to show off a first-look teaser trailer for the upcoming reboot. Unfortunately, said trailer is “panel exclusive” and isn’t being released online (for the time being anyway). However, thanks to IGN, we’ve got a description of the two minutes of footage that was shown…

“It starts with Hellboy about to head into a crime scene when a Swat officer shoots at him accidentally, with Hellboy yelling, ‘I’m on your side!’ From there there’s a lot of quick flashes of dialogue and action. Ian McShane, who plays Hellboy’s adopted father Bruttenholm, gives him his gun ‘the Good Samaritan.’Daniel Dae Kim’s character Ben Daimio and Sasha Lane’s Alice Monaghan, who play Hellboy’s teammates, are seen entering a “secret headquarters” in London,

‘Hellboy’ Debuts First Footage at New York Comic-Con

  • Variety
The cast and creator of Lionsgate’s “Hellboy” reboot took to the main stage of the 2018 New York Comic Con to debut a first glimpse at the upcoming film.

According to reports from the panel, Hellboy’s iconic flaming crown is back along with the character’s biting humor and giant, stone arm. In a cast interview following the panel, “Hellboy” creator Mike Mignola, who also co-wrote the script for the reboot, said the film will pick up in the middle of Hellboy’s storyline, while drawing on elements from other story arcs in the comics.

“You have 25 years of comics to choose from…so thank God they wanted me involved to help stitch it together in a way that still felt true to the comic even though we monkey’ed with the story a bit,” Mignola said.

David Harbour, who is taking on the role of the titular character,

‘Hellboy’ Unleashes Footage On Comic Con Crowd; Star David Harbour Praises Practical Monsters – New York Comic Con

  • Deadline
‘Hellboy’ Unleashes Footage On Comic Con Crowd; Star David Harbour Praises Practical Monsters – New York Comic Con
A New York Comic Con audience got a first look today at next year’s Hellboy, with exclusive footage proving star David Harbour’s onstage claim: Yes, Hellboy is a monster movie.

“There are a lot of CGI elements,” said Harbour, who plays the title character in director Neil Marshall’s new take on the comic and its horned hero, “but also a lot of practical stuff, like, crazy practical make-up.”

“And,” he continued, “there are so many monsters, not just Hellboy. Like, two practical monsters having a full scene with each other. And you feel the weight of that.”

Harbour expressed a decided preference for “practical” effects versus CGI, and named names – say, a certain villain from Titan.

“Like Thanos,” said the new Hellboy about heavily CGI heavies, then joked, “I’m not going to start this scandal like ‘Harbour Hates Marvel.

First Reactions To Hellboy Trailer Say It’s Amazing And A Ton Of Fun

Hellboy is back, and judging by the trailer that dropped at New York Comic Con today, he’s making his return in style.

Look, I absolutely adored the Guillermo del Toro films and like many people, was pretty skeptical when David Harbour was cast as the titular character. After all, how could anyone do the role better than Ron Perlman? Thankfully, it seems like the Stranger Things star is up to the herculean task, as judging by the first reactions to the footage that we have here, he’s slipping into the shoes of Big Red quite comfortably.

Seriously, for a film that many had written off, the verdicts coming out of Comic Con are surprisingly good. Promising a more dark and edgy take on the character, it sounds as if Harbour’s got a strong hold of the role while many are praising the footage for being fun, exciting and forging its own path,

New Hellboy Nycc Poster Brings Blood Queen and Professor Broom to the Party

New Hellboy Nycc Poster Brings Blood Queen and Professor Broom to the Party
After unveiling an epic Hellboy poster earlier this week, the studio has released another for Nycc and it provides our first look at Professor Broom, the Blood Queen, Ben Daimio, and more. There has been a lot of talk about the reboot and what it will be like without Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman on board. While del Toro went with more of a fantasy feel, Neill Marshall has reportedly made a horror-based adaption that is completely different from what we've seen in the past.

Milla Jovovich previously shared some early promotional art, but her Blood Queen looks a lot different in the latest Hellboy remake poster. She's featured front and center, right below David Harbour's take on the demonic hero. The Blood Queen and Hellboy have fought many times in Mike Mignola's comics, so the remake is interesting for that fact alone. Ian McShane's Professor Broom,
