The Blacklist Spinoff Series Ordered By NBC

Why should Dick Wolf get to have all the fun? NBC, hot on the heels of ordering its umpteenth Chicago series, has committed to a spinoff of its popular crime-procedural drama The Blacklist, titled The Blacklist: Redemption.

After airing a backdoor pilot for the spinoff this past Thursday, the Peacock network has made its allegiance to another installment of the franchise official, signing a deal for a first season of Redemption that will air this fall. Famke Janssen, Ryan Eggold, Edi Gathegi and Tawny Cypress are all aboard reprising their Blacklist roles as the core cast of the spinoff.

Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath are set to serve as writers and executive producers on the series, with John Fox and John Davis involved as executive producers. Michael Dinner, who did great work behind the camera on FX’s Justified, will direct the first episode.

Mark it down. NBC has ordered The Blacklist spinoff, The Blacklist: Redemption, to series. The Blacklist: Redemption TV show had a backdoor pilot on NBC, as the "Alexander Kirk (No. 14)" episode of the parent series, Thursday, May 12, 2016.

The new series stars Ryan Eggold as Tom Keen and Famke Janssen as Susan Hargrave, aka "Scottie." The Blacklist: Redemption TV series cast will also include: Edi Gathegi and Tawny Cypress. The pilot episode was written by Blacklist creator and Ep Jon Bokenkamp and showrunner and Ep John Eisendrath, and was directed by Michael Dinner.

NBC is officially moving forward with "The Blacklist: Redemption," the upcoming spin-off to its flagship James Spader crime procedural series at Sony Pictures Television and Davis Entertainment.

Famke Janssen, Ryan Eggold, Edi Gathegi and Tawny Cypress star in the project which will mark the network's sixth new drama for next season and will likely have a mid-season launch.

This past week's May 12th episode served as a backdoor pilot for the series which follows now single father Tom Keen (Eggold) who joins forces with the ruthless Susan 'Scottie' Hargrave (Janssen) at the covert mercenary organization Grey Matters.

The group solves problems governments don't dare touch, while Tom has his own agenda which involves looking into his past and his mother - 'Scottie'. Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath are penning and executive producing alongside John Davis and John Fox.

NBC Orders Spinoff of ‘The Blacklist’
NBC and Sony Pictures TV are turning “The Blacklist” into a franchise vehicle, with the Peacock giving the greenlight to a spinoff series to be titled “The Blacklist: Redemption,” toplined by Famke Janssen and Ryan Eggold.

The planted spinoff aired on Thursday as an episode of “Blacklist.” Janssen plays the mother of Eggold who has been a series regular on “Blacklist” since its 2013 debut. Janssen’s character (Susan “Scottie” Hargrave) first appeared in the May 5 episode of “Blacklist.”

The premise revolves around Eggold’s character, Tom Keen, being recruited into a secret “private military organization” called Grey Matters that takes on ultra-cover assignments. Keen discovers that his long-lost mother (Janssen) is the unit’s mysterious leader, which sends him on a mission to uncover the truth about her motives and his past.

The cast also includes Edi Gathegi and Tawny Cypress.

The Blacklist’s” Ryan Eggold has closed a deal to co-star in NBC’s female-driven spinoff toplined by Famke Janssen, should the project be greenlit, Variety has learned.

While “The Blacklist” spinoff is in the works, at this point, the only commitment the network has made to the project is a backdoor pilot, which will air this spring. The decision for a full series will come after that episode airs.

While NBC has not released any plot details on the potential spinoff, insiders say Janssen will play the mother to Eggold’s character Tom Keen, as Variety previously reported.

Janssen’s character is named Susan “Scottie” Halsted. She will make her debut on the May 5 episode of “The Blacklist,” and the backdoor pilot is set to air on May 12 in an episode directed by Michael Dinner (“Justified,” “Masters of Sex”).
