He makes the comments about the book, Let’s Talk About Pep, when confronted about the claims by daughter Egypt Criss, who he had with Pepa. Cheryl ‘Salt’ James Talks Salt-n-Pepa Nostalgia and That Geico Commercial

Cheryl ‘Salt’ James Talks Salt-n-Pepa Nostalgia and That Geico Commercial
If the second act of Salt-n-Pepa's career is shaping up like a bizarro version of the first, well, that's just fine with them. Seven years after the trio's 2007 reformation — they started in 1985 and disbanded in 2002 — the group had their first next-generation national success, albeit in an unexpected form: a Geico commercial featuring them and their 1987 hit "Push It" amid a montage of push-intensive activities. That exposed them to a new audience, one that may embrace another nostalgia-tinged endeavor: Brooklyn's upcoming '90s Fest, which they'll be headlining on September 12 (joining such acts as Lisa Loeb, Coolio, Naughty by Nature, Smash Mouth, and Tonic). We caught up with Salt to talk about how that commercial and '90s nostalgia have helped the group's career. There's been a lot of revived interest in '90s culture, both ironic and sincere. When did you notice that wave of nostalgia? We got

The Cast of Good Burger Then and Now

The Cast of Good Burger Then and Now
When Nickelodeon first launched in 1977, it seemed like little more than a child's answer to Saturday Night Live and MTV. In fact, it wasn't until Nickelodeon debuted the Canadian sketch series You Can't Do That on Television in the U.S. that this nascent network began to gain real traction amongst fans of all ages. Before too long, the basic cable channel became quite popular, especially with the launch of it's Nick At Nite line-up featuring such "classic" shows as Alf, The Facts of Life, Growing Pains and many others throughout the years. Viewership certainly proceeded to explode, turning it into one of today's favorite hubs for nostalgia of all kinds.

Nickelodeon had officially arrived in the 1990s, taking its signature brand to the big screen with Nickelodeon Movies in 1995. It wasn't until 1997, though, that this film division made its most iconic and beloved movie of all time: Good Burger.

Why ‘The To Do List’ Is a Must-See For ’90s Music Fans

The 1990s were a very distinct decade in music – Seattle became the birth place of grunge, putting on a memorable live performance became just as important as releasing an amazing album, and boy bands dominated the end of the decade with a fever pitch that reverberates to this day (see: The Package Tour). The 1990s also saw a number of movies with fantastic soundtracks that truly represented the decade (Singles, Clueless, Can’t Hardly Wait), but The To Do List is one of the first films to come out in the aftermath of the ’90s that takes audiences right back to the days of Naughty By Nature, The Cranberries, Mazzy Star, and Salt-n-Pepa. The soundtrack for The To Do List is, as one would imagine, filled with “sexy” songs which play to the plot of the film which has Brandy Klark (Aubrey Plaza) running through a laundry list of sexual exploits with a laser focus on losing

Examining Atlantic Rim, the perfect primer for Pacific Rim

Feature Ryan Lambie 5 Jul 2013 - 06:32

Atlantic Rim may be a cheap, DVD imitation of Pacific Rim, but it also works remarkably well as an unofficial prequel, Ryan writes...

History is full of uncanny coincidences. Mark Twain was born on the day Halley's Comet swung by Earth in 1835, and died when it hurtled around again in 1910. The writer Morgan Robertson wrote a book about the sinking of a huge ocean-going liner 14 years before the Titanic collided with an iceberg in 1912. And by an uncanny twist of fate, last month saw the release of Atlantic Rim, which appears to have anticipated Guillermo del Toro's giant-robots-versus-giant-monsters flick Pacific Rim by several weeks.

American film studio The Asylum has a spooky knack of releasing its own similarly-named film just before a major blockbuster. Transmorphers appeared just before Transformers in 2007. I Am Omega appeared at around the time of I Am Legend. Other

'The To Do List' Soundtrack Features 2 Live Crew, Gin Blossoms, Salt N Pepa, Mazzy Star & More

As if mounting (ha ha) a movie about one young woman's goal to knock every sexual act off of her bucket list before college isn't ambitious enough, the decision to set it in the '90s is also pretty bold. If you don't do it right, it can come off as cheap or misguided, but the filmmakers behind "The To Do List" have made sure the soundtrack reflects the times, for better or worse.... And so, the 12-strong soundtrack for the upcoming comedy mixes in (mostly dated/one hit wonder) hip hop from 2 Live Crew, Mc Hammer and Naughty By Nature (though "O.P.P." still rules), some alt-fm staples from James, Gin Blossoms, Elastica, Cranberries and Mazzy Star, and a few odd outliers like House Of Love and Big Head Todd & The Monsters. And course, Salt N Pepa's "Let Talks About Sex" is here because it has to be.

The Asylum's Atlantic Rim Comes From the Sea

Amazing the things you can find by complete accident when conducting a Google search. Like a Pensacola, Florida, news site spilling the beans about the cast and crew of the Asylum’s Pacific Rim mockbuster Atlantic Rim/From the Sea shooting in their area.

The reason for the two titles is because the film being reported on is clearly Atlantic Rim, The Asylum’s version of Guillermo Del Toro’s giant robots vs. giant monsters from beneath the sea mega-blockbuster coming this summer they initially announced last summer. Given some of the legal wrangling The Asylum has had to deal with in the year since, it might not be released with such a similar title when the time comes. The tentative working title is From the Sea; safe to say that won’t be the release title. I suppose they could retitle it something like Earth vs. the Giant Monsters,

Tupac Created 'Juice' Character From Life Experience

'Bishop didn't make Tupac; Tupac made Bishop,' Treach tells 'RapFix Live' 20 years after film's release.

"Juice"

When "Juice" was released 20 years ago on January 17, 1992, the performance of noted rapper but first-time actor Tupac Shakur took critics by surprise. The socially aware, politically driven Mc lit up the screen as fiery, gun-crazed thug Bishop. It was a departure from the rapper hip-hop had come to know through more positive songs like "Brenda's Got a Baby."

A year after "Juice" premiered, 'Pac went on to release his second album, Strictly 4 My N.-.-.-.A.Z., before experiencing legal trouble, then a serious rap beef with the Notorious B.I.G. a few years after that and, of course, his murder in 1996. Some believe that after "Juice," Tupac took on the persona of the fictional and troublesome Bishop, and as a result,

Looking To DVD Releases – A Review Of “Blood And Bone” (Michael Jai White Kicks Ass. What else?)

So… instead of constantly anticipating the next studio produced and/or distributed “black film” to open at a theatre near you (and often being disappointed), why not start sifting through the myriad of straight-to-dvd “black film” releases, with the chance that you might find a few gems here and there (or just fairly decent films) that may have gone unnoticed, for one reason or another.

The phrase “straight-to-dvd” is akin to the scarlet letter for any film that wears it, and that’s unfair. I think we can all agree that not every film rejected for theatrical distribution is unworthy. Likewise, certainly not every film released in theatres deserves the luxury.

There are a wealth of films by and about black people produced and distributed annually, and the vast majority never see a single theatre screen (except maybe at film festivals). So, why not look there, the DVD market, for content,

HollywoodNews.com: Lady Gaga already has some of the biggest hits of the past year and so it would only make sense for three of them to be included in the new DJ Hero 2 video game that is slated to hit stores on October 19.

A follow up to DJ Hero, the new game will feature over 100 of the biggest tracks from the hottest artists, remixed exclusively for the game. Static Major music fans will find more than a handful of songs to entertain themselves.

“The individual songs that have been mixed into the DJ Hero 2 soundtrack have been viewed online more than 1.5 billion times, which really speaks volumes to both the size and scope of our music,” said Dan Neil, Music Director, FreeStyleGames. “Working with some of
