Le Corbusier was born on October 6, 1887 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland as Charles Edouard Jeanneret. He was a writer, known for Le Corbusier, l'architecte du bonheur (1957), La chapelle de Romchamp (1964) and England Home & Beauty (1976). He was married to Yvonne Gallis. He died on August 27, 1965 in Roquebrune, France.

Pioneer of functionalist architecture with the use of reinforced concrete and the concept of a house as a "machine for living."
Is one of the most influential architects of the 20th century.
Took his eventual name Le Corbusier in 1920. He came from a family of watch engravers in Switzerland, and his mother was a musician.
A picture of him and part of his work can be seen on the current 10 Swiss franc banknote (introduced 1997/98)
