Born and raised in New York City, Alberto Colombo served as a cellist with the Manhattan Opera House Orchestra, and later became the manager. He toured with Paul Whiteman, as an arranger, before joining RKO as a music director in 1934.

He joined Republic Pictures in 1937 as an arranger, conductor and composer. He worked at MGM as a music director from 1950 until his death.

Wolfe Gilbert Music Publishing Compoany, giving them all rights to his compositions, both for pictures and publication. Colombo is currently musical director at Republic Pictures.
