Allen and his wife Kathy had 2 daughters, Amy and Allison.
Allen wrote the music to Lynyrd Skynyrd's rock anthem "Freebird".
Laid to rest next to his wife Kathy.
Allen was paralyzed as the result of a 1986 car accident.
Played mostly Gibson Firebirds and Explorers, but sometimes used a Les Paul Doublecut.
Was the guitarist that wrote and played the solo to Freebird.
Arm was so damaged from the plane crash that doctors recommended amputation. However his father stopped the procedure right before it started, and he recovered to play guitar again.
