Simon Brew Nov 6, 2017

Willem Dafoe chats to us about Clear & Present Danger, Murder On The Orient Express, White Sands and our feet.

An odd start to an interview as I walked into a comfy room to talk to Willem Dafoe for a bit. We ended up talking about feet, specifically that mine were big. He sought to assure me that my feet were fine, to try and make me feel better about myself. There’s a measure of a man for you.

Rainbow Six: Ryan Reynolds top choice for adaptation

Simon Brew Jul 13, 2017

The Tom Clancy book Rainbow Six is heading to the movies - and Ryan Reynolds is on the list to star.

Rainbow Six may have become a series of best-selling and popular videogames thanks to UbiSoft, but their core still lies in a novel by the late Tom Clancy. The sizeable book focuses on the character of John Clark, who was introduced in Clancy’s Jack Ryan novels (and we saw played on screen by Willem Dafoe in Clear And Present Danger and Liev Schreiber in The Sum Of All Fears).

A movie adaptation of Rainbow Six is now in the works, and it’s being overseen by Akiva Goldsman. Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec have been hired to try and fit the book into a two hours-or-so movie, and Paramount – which is backing the project – would subsequently look for more John Clark movies.

Very early talks

Tiff Review: 'Northern Soul' Starring Elliot James Langridge, With Steve Coogan & More

“What's your favorite record?” That is the key question asked in director Elaine Constantine’s “Northern Soul,” a rousing, wildly entertaining Toronto International Film Festival entry set in mid-70s England. Here is a sonically explosive film that understands the deep connection that can exist between a genre of music and its fans, especially those who might be considered (or would consider themselves) outsiders. In this case, that genre is Northern Soul, a still-influential style of music that has never been properly documented onscreen before. While a few names will ring a bell to fans of soul music — Edwin Starr, for example — the majority are names unfamiliar to even the most devoted trainspotters. What’s most important is that the predominantly African-American sung music moves, and pulsates with a triumphant feeling at odds with much of early-'70s U.K. rock. As “Northern Soul” begins, John Clark (Elliot James Langridge) is a sullen 18-year-old whose.

Smith. I've added everything I could think of and while I'm sure I missed a few, please forgive me and hopefully you'll find something that appeals to your taste on the list.
