Patricia Cardoso was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia. She moved to the United States in 1987. She is an anthropologist and archaeologist and she received the first Fulbright scholarship in Colombia for film. She has an MFA in Film Directing from the University of California, and a B.A. in Anthropology from Universidad de los Andes. As an archaeologist she did work on the Tairona Culture, finding the oldest C-14 date of same. She was Director of Sundance's Latin American program for five years and the Interim Director of Project Involve at Film Independent. Ms. Cardoso is an active member of the Directors Guild of American and has served in its Independent Directors Committee for over a dozen years. She has taught at the School of Cinematic Arts (University of Southern California) for a decade. Films she has directed include: Real Women Have Curves (2002), Lies in Plain Sight (2010), The Water Carrier (1996), Meddling Mom (2013), and others.
