Jez Butterworth in Birthday Girl (2001)
His feature film directorial debut Mojo (1997) starred Ian Hart, Ewen Bremner, Aidan Gillen and Harold Pinter and was officially selected for the 1998 Venice Film Festival. The film was based on his multi award winning stage play of the same name which opened at the Royal Court Theatre in 1995 and was an outstanding critical and public success. Mojo has won five major theatre awards including the Olivier and the Evening Standard Most Promising Playwright Award. Butterworth's other film writing credits include Marc Munden's Christmas and David Giles' The Night of the Golden Brain, both of which he co-wrote with his brother Tom.
